Zeus, if you're around, could you see what the last song to spend its *first* 20 weeks in the top 20 was? (i.e. entered in the top 20 and was still there in its twentieth week without dropping out). Ed Sheeran seems likely to do it 3 weeks from now with The A Team.

Thanks for that. There was a reference to Jo Stafford in the alternative version of my commentary. That was the version which had Maroon 5 at number one.

I'm not sure about the others as I don't know what time of year they were in the chart but Floral Dance's run includes a frozen chart. So it was number two for six weeks but only in five charts.

By the way Suedehead, I just realised something which I'm surprised you didn't comment on - in addition to 'Don't Go', 'Go' and 'I Won't Let You Go' there's now a 'Wherever You Will Go' to add to the collection. That particular verb is getting a lot of attention these days :lol:

Well, there you go (see what I did there?). With all the concentration on what was going (oh, there's that verb again) to be number one, that one passed me by :o

Alright, I'll ask again in three weeks' time then. :P Bruno Mars' Just The Way You Are did 19 weeks but the last one that I know did 20 weeks from the start of its run was 'Love Is All Around' in 1994, I'm sure that can't really be the last one to do it.

 

The OCC has it on 18 weeks because it spent one week in the top 200 earlier this year when it was made available as a live version which was deleted from iTunes before the 'proper' single release. You Need Me, I Don't Need You also charted in the top 200 before its 'proper' release.
