I wonder if this could go top 40 this week? I think it'll be there in the mids but just miss out on Sunday, much like Marry You did after Glee.

I'm still confused with Marry You and Glee. I know it's not exactly important, but if you remember, Glee aired on Mondays back then I think, and Marry You climbed up the chart the following week, rather than peaking the same week like most of the other songs did. I never understood why. The Glee Cast version peaked the same week as the episode aswell.

Pro Green is now 25% of Labrinth even when combined :D I wasn't entirely sold on the song at first, but their performance was excellent on both counts!
When Coldplay and Beyoncé headlined at Glasto, the songs of theirs that got the biggest boost were their most well-known songs which the most people already owned - people are probably more convinced to buy a song after a performance if they're already familiar with the song and I'd suspect it's the same with albums so Bruno might have actually HURT his album sales by performing an album track no one's heard of.

Well that's unlikely, as Katy Perry performed an unknown "album track" last week on The X Factor, which resulted in both a top forty placing for the song, and a leap back into the top 10 for the album!

Also any performance on X Factor will have an impact of some sort, and normally, when it comes to good performances and good live performers any performance will boost album sales, and single sales wether its the song performed or even just previous singles.

Bruno's album would have got a massive boost whatever he performed - IMO the best choice would be for him to perform Marry You in an attempt to kill two birds with one stone - get another top 10 hit (possibly) AND increase album sales.

Sorry for off-topic but I liked how this phraseology transformed in the UK, our version is "to catch two rabbits".

That doesn't prove anything though. How do you know it wouldn't have had a bigger effect on the album if she'd performed Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)?

Okay, how exactly do iTunes pre-order albums work? I pre-ordered Mylo Xyloto weeks ago and the album is now on iTunes but the songs haven't automatically downloaded. Do I have to do something to get the songs?

I think you have to go to store at the top and go down to "check for avaliable downloads". Hope that helps :)

The first time I tried that it said 'all downloads have been purchased for this account' but I tried again and it worked. Thank you :D I shall keep that in mind if I ever pre-order anything from iTunes again in the future.

No problem! :D

How do you know that Bruno performing 'Just The Way You Are' or 'Marry You' would have had a bigger effect on the album than 'Runaway Baby'?

People have heard JTWYA, 'Grenade', TLS and MY (to a lesser extent) a hell of a lot over the past year. If they wanted to buy the album based on those songs, I doubt they'd wait for an XF performance to decide. RB showed a different, fun side to Bruno and was a great song to sell the album to 12 million viewers.

Pop bars now:

1 Professor Green Read All About It (feat. Emeli Sandé) 1.000000

2 Labrinth Earthquake (Full Version) 0.696840

3 Rihanna We Found Love (feat. Calvin Harris) 0.571221

29 Labrinth Earthquake (Radio Edit) 0.067156

Hmm, so Green has a ~30.9% lead over Labrinth's top 2 versions combined - goodbye my last hopes that Labrinth may still have been in contention :( Labrinth's EP is still ahead of Green's, but the Cahill remix of RAAI is now #137 while the Benny Benassi remix of Earthquake is only #198... sigh. Ah well, Labrinth has a 33.7% lead over Rihanna himself (with just the two versions combined so not factoring in his EP and what little his other versions add) so should probably be heading for over 100k anyway. There's always the hope Earthquake will have the longer chart run and higher overall sales even if it does end up at #2. *crosses fingers*

Looks like Professor Green will be this week's number one. I purchased Coldplay's new album in Hmv was only £7.99 to pre-order.

Bre combined Professor Green is 23.7% ahead of Labrinth?

Looks Like Matt Cardle's spending his last week top 40, what a awful chart tun, 3 weeks top 40 is horrendous.

04. Charlene Soraia - Wherever You Will Go 36.2%

05. Maroon 5 - Moves Like Jagger 32%

06. Kelly Clarkson - Mr Know It All 31.4% (Should Go Top 5 soon and hopefully top 4 tomorrow)

Pro Green & Em's performance was absolutely incredible!! I'm soo glad it's #1, i just hope it can maintain a healthy lead for the rest of this week and get it officialy.

The Edge of Glory  #62

Again I'll use Coldplay's Glastonbury set as an example - their set included an album track (Politik), a song that wasn't a single in the UK (God Put A Smile Upon Your Face) and one of their least successful UK singles (Shiver). These are songs that very few people owned and that very few people would have even heard outside of their core fanbase. Why, then, did these songs not make any impression on the chart, while their biggest hits and most well-known songs (Viva La Vida, Fix You, Yellow etc.) re-entered the top 100?

There's no way to prove what would be more effective either way but extrapolating from that the public are more likely to be 'reminded' to buy a song they already know which theoretically should be exactly the same for albums. (Like with the Pink Floyd re-issues a few weeks ago, where 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' sold far more than any of their other albums, even though it was already by far their highest-selling album - although this is sort of a different thing to what I'm talking about, it could be used as evidence that the same thing is true for albums as it is for singles).

And regarding 'if they wanted to buy the album based on those songs, I doubt they'd wait for an XF performance to decide' - what about Cee Lo Green last week? Okay, so he performed a little bit of an album track as well, but his performance was mostly his biggest hit by far (F**k You!) and it caused the album to go top 10 again, even though the vast majority of people would have heard that song tens or hundreds of times already. Any performance causes an increase in sales of that song or its parent album, well-known or not, because it reminds people to buy it if they realise they haven't yet. I just theorise this effect is bigger with more well-known songs.

Also, FY! re-entered at #60 and 'Satisfied' didn't go near the top 200.

Bre combined Professor Green is 23.7% ahead of Labrinth?

If Green was 23.7% ahead of Labrinth that'd put Labrinth on 0.840744 combined and he's lower than that. Maths!

2 Labrinth Earthquake (Full Version) 0.696840

29 Labrinth Earthquake (Radio Edit) 0.067156

= 76.3% - 100 = 23.7% :S

Bré, they're both good songs, and while I prefer Earthquake, it would be the best top 2 this year by far.

Yeah, I agree. I love both. It's such a fantastic top 2. One of my favourites along with Don't Go and Heaven.

So evidently, I seem to like Emeli Sande.

2 Labrinth Earthquake (Full Version) 0.696840

29 Labrinth Earthquake (Radio Edit) 0.067156

= 76.3% - 100 = 23.7% :S

0.696840 + 0.067156 = 0.763996

1 - 0.763996 = 0.236004

0.236004 / 0.763996 = 0.308907

Hence 1 (Green) is ~30.9% more than 0.763996 (Labrinth). You're doing percentages wrong.
