The song that started it all for Gaga. Its a great pop song but I dont think its aged that well compared to get her other singles from the album. Probably because it was played to death at the time. Still a great song though.

 

 

62 - Nelly Furtado - Say it right - 66,173 plays

 

The woman who sold her soul to Timbaland. Great music though lol. Its a good song but I never loved it. She released better at the time.

 

 

The chart seems to be friendly to newer songs

 

I think that's because there's a trend the last few years for songs to be very hyped up on. (Maybe partly because of the emergence of social media (I'm really only just guessing here though)).

61 - Room 5 - Make Luv - 67,075 plays

 

I always loved this song back in the day, but listening to it now, it really isnt as good as I remember.

Still my favourite of hers, didn't know it was so well-supported as I assumed that everyone stopped playing it once "Poker Face" went big.

Just Dance is also my favorite Gaga single. I remember being shocked that this initially flopped in the Netherlands (stalled at the tipchart).

It's a great pop song.

It's amazing just how skewed to the last couple of years this is, it makes the older songs having so many plays look more impressive. I don't remember that Robbie Williams single at all. I haven't really listened to radio in recent years and I'd pretty much lost interest in him by then...

60 - Beyonce - Sweet Dreams - 67,305 plays

 

Another great track from an amazing album. Plus another great video.

 

65 - Sam Sparro - Black and Gold - 65,876 plays

 

He certainly seems to be a one hit wonder, which is a shame. Love this song.

 

 

Hate this with a passion, much prefer the flop follow-up 21st Century Life.

59 - Jamelia - Superstar - 67,581 plays

 

Loved it at the time. Not so much now. I preferred the singles after it.

 

58 - Take That - Patience - 67,588 plays

 

The comeback song to define all comeback songs. I still dont get the whole Take That thing. They were never respected back in the day. In fact they were ridiculed and ripped to shreds. All of a sudden they come back years later, older, and boring songs. Now all of a sudden the critics kiss their asses. I dont get it.

 

57 - Olly Murs - Please don’t let me go - 67,660 plays

 

His debut is ok but his songs follow were far superior in my opinion. He is different to whats out there and I like him for that.

 

56 - Scouting for girls - This aint a love song - 67,799 plays

 

Im really not sure why this is so high. Its such a non event.

 

68 - Script - Breakeven - 63,553 plays

 

This group seen to be very radio friendly but im not clued up on them at all. Thats very rare for me. This song is even less familiar than the previous one.

 

 

As with all MOR, I love this, but it's just downright BIZARRE that a single that never even made the sales top 20 is so high in this countdown, and particularly ahead of modern-day "classics" like Bleeding Love, Patience, Toxic or You're Beautiful.

 

I'm going to assume some of these positions may be slightly inflated because of the methodology. I would expect that tracks like some tracks that seem a little low to our eyes are probably racking up a fair amount of "lost" airplay; spread over a longer period of time and "bubbling under" the weekly top 100s.

 

55 - Take That - Greatest Day - 68,387 plays

 

This is another non event single from Take That for me. There isnt much I like from Take That since they came back. My most hated Take That song hasnt came up yet though.

 

54 - Gnarls Barkley - Crazy - 68,816 plays

 

This song seemed to be at number 1 forever. I didnt even get sick of it, which I was suprised about. Great track.

The Airplay chart now takes account of more stations purely because there are now more, and they've widened their sample range too so it gives an unfair advantage to recent songs, especially those from the last 12-18 months. It would be the same if it were done on audience impressions too though, as songs seem to get a higher reach than they did.

53 - Ne-Yo - Closer - 69,613 plays

 

Not really a Ne-Yo fan but I love this song. Maybe its his voice but this does have Michael Jackson vibe to me.

 

52 - Sugababes - Push the button - 69,657 plays

 

Even thought im a huge Sugababes fan, this was never a huge favourite of mine. I still love it, just isnt up there with my favs. I do have far to high of an expectation for the Sugababes though.
