About 150k, it'll be hard to match the success of viva la vida but it should sell a million before Christmas. They are clearly waiting to release the rihanna track as the 3rd single to boost album sales around the Christmas rush

around 275k I reckon, I know it will have a full week but the sales are in quite a damp phase atm, I honestly can't see this being as big as their other albums unfortunately, but it still could challenge for runner up of the year
It's not really that impressive to compare pre-orders with Adele's 21 and claim that it will be an album of that stature. Pre-orders for 21 were no indication of it's eventual success, were they?

21 had the record for most pre-orders from Amazon ever. I think it's at least worthy of a mention that Coldplay have broken that, even if it doesn't mean 'Mylo Xyloto' is going to have '21'-style success. I still think they should get a fifth million-selling album with MX.

I'm thinking around 250k. I wasn't paying as much attention to the charts at the time of the other albums, so I can't really compare hype, but the singles seem to be appealing to people who in the past weren't really big Coldplay fans (like myself, so this will be the first Coldplay album I purchase). Maybe not be as huge as 'Viva La Vida' but the two singles have done well (or would have done had Paradise been allowed to officially chart), and there seems to be some hype around Princess Of China/Rihanna.
Coldplay's first week sales for all previous albums

Parachutes 70,000

A rush of blood to the head 273,924 copies

X&Y 464,471

Viva La Vida 302,074

Incredible! Sales are so bad right now though, anything near 200,000 would be amazing!

Except that it may well not wait that long... :P

The Christmas rush isn't that far away, so they won't have to wait long anyway. I suspect/hope Princess Of China can enter straight into the top 20 or so on cherrypicks, like a mini Love The Way You Lie. (It has already been confirmed as the next single unlike LTWYL though).

around 250-300k, it's going to be £3.99 for a digital download at Amazon as well so it will pick up sales there along with the physical CD which will probably be in impluse areas of supermarkets on display more than likely

going to buy the digital download myself, really like the album

It is definitely next week's £3.99 album on Amazon so I agree that it will pick up a lot of downloads from casual fans or people with a slight interest in hearing the Rihanna duet etc.

250K, their festival appearances went down really well this summer and they seem to have converted some previous doubters into fans.

the album is also getting good reviews from the press.

First week reflects only the anticipation. Personally, I can't see this doing less than 200k under any circumstances but nobody knows what will happen after the first two weeks.

All big rock releases have failed to have legs so far: FF, AM, RHCP...

FF 'failed to have legs'? I wouldn't say that.

I'd say that's a pretty good chart run. Especially as the singles spent a combined total of one week top 40.

Well it didn't spawn hits anyway and sold only platinum. Sure, it's good but initially it dropped out of top ten pretty quick.

'Only platinum' is pretty damn good considering there are only 4 albums this year so far (5 when Gaga passes it with this week's sales) which have sold double platinum and only 2 of those are 2011 albums

The fact it didn't spawn any big hits just makes a total of 350k+ even more impressive. 'Mylo Xyloto' has spawned 2 medium-big hits (although the second hasn't been allowed to chart yet) and 'Princess Of China' will surely be a big hit, I think it'll have much better overall sales and longevity than the likes of 'Suck It And See' or 'I'm With You'. The time of year it's released will help as well of course.

Wasting Light opened with 114k though so it didn't really have the legs after all despite ok-ish chart run.

I'm not saying it flopped, just saying it could've sold better after the big opening.
