Posted October 23, 201113 yr As we all know, the Top 40 is "the chart" according to a lot of ill-informed people outside this site. Therefore those records which peak at Number 41 are unluckily denied their moment of glory. However, this year, we have not had a single genuine "Number 41" single at all. The nearest would be "Valerie" by Amy Winehouse but that was only a re-entry of a single that peaked at Number 37 four years ago. We've had lots of records peaking at Number 40 and a handful at Number 42 but not Number 41 I know it's nothing more than a statistical oddity, but it's still quite interesting!
October 23, 201113 yr The most heartbreaking one for me I remember was Toy-Box "Best Friend" from 1999. I was gutted haha
October 23, 201113 yr A far more bizarre statistical oddity (IMO) is that we've had only one song peak at #7 this year! That being Badman Riddim (Jump) by Vato Gonzalez feat. Foreign Beggars. It is very odd though, there have been four songs this year that peaked at #42 (Linkin Park - Rolling In The Deep, White Lies - Bigger Than Us, Wiz Khalifa - Roll Up, The Wombats - Anti-D) but none peaking at #41. There were quite a few #41s last year and most of them were songs that I really liked: Pendulum - The Island, Sub Focus - Could This Be Real, Sub Focus (again) feat. Coco - Splash, Hot Chip - One Life Stand, Pixie Lott - Use Somebody, Jay-Z, Bono, The Edge and Rihanna - Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)... and the less good Glee Cast - Bad Romance, Duffy - Well, Well, Well and Flo Rida - Turn Around (5,4,3,2,1). Fun. Edited October 23, 201113 yr by Bré
October 23, 201113 yr That is pretty strange. It's good though, I know this is really silly, but it's SOOOO annoying if a song I like peaks at #41, but #42 doesn't seem so bad (even though it's worse in reality ).
October 23, 201113 yr And only 1 Number 12 ("Wonderman")? That too. We've also only had one #19 (The Wanted - Lose My Mind (and even that is debatable as the week falls into 2010 by the OCC's numbering)) and no #26s. Edited October 23, 201113 yr by Bré
October 23, 201113 yr In fact, the 'no #26s' thing is quite possibly the most bizarre of them all - I'll knock up some stats on this in a bit but I'm pretty sure #26 was actually one of the most common peaks in 2010, aside from #1! 2010 #26s: Elllie Goulding - Guns And Horses Fugative - Crush Glee Cast - Somebody To Love James Blunt - Stay The Night LZ7 - This Little Light M.I.A - XXXO Marco Calliari - We No Speak Americano Marina & The Diamonds - I Am Not A Robot Nadine - Insatiable OneRepublic - All The Right Moves Paul Weller - No Tears To Cry Skepta - Bad Boy Edited October 23, 201113 yr by Bré
October 23, 201113 yr Full breakdown of peaks during 2010: #1 x35 #2 x15 #3 x17 #4 x14 #5 x10 #6 x10 #7 x12 #8 x8 #9 x11 #10 x11 #11 x11 #12 x8 #13 x8 #14 x8 #15 x5 #16 x8 #17 x3 #18 x2 #19 x3 #20 x6 #21 x6 #22 x5 #23 x4 #24 x3 #25 x2 #26 x12 #27 x4 #28 x2 #29 x9 #30 x4 #31 x8 #32 x4 #33 x6 #34 x5 #35 x5 #36 x8 #37 x7 #38 x7 #39 x5 #40 x4 #41 x9 #42 x6 #43 x3 #44 x10 #45 x2 #46 x4 #47 x6 #48 x6 #49 x3 #50 x6 #51 x7 #52 x3 #53 x6 #54 x2 #55 x6 #56 x8 #57 x4 #58 x6 #59 x5 #60 x7 #61 x3 #62 x8 #63 x4 #64 x8 #65 x5 #66 x4 #67 x5 #68 x8 #69 x6 #70 x4 #71 x6 #72 x7 #73 x1 #74 x1 #75 x4 #76 x6 #77 x4 #78 x7 #79 x5 #80 x3 #81 x6 #82 x5 #83 x4 #84 x6 #85 x5 #86 x1 #87 x5 #88 x6 #89 x3 #90 x4 #91 x6 #92 x3 #93 x6 #94 x8 #95 x1 #96 x3 #97 x7 #98 x6 #99 x6 #100 x4 So yes, #26 was the most common peak outside the top 4 (joint with #7 which we've also coincidentally had a lack of this year!) #73, #74, #86 and #95 each only had one, but all of them had at least one.
