Earlier this year Crystal Castles and Robert Smith broke the record for most weeks in the top 10 with 'Not In Love', spending a total of 15 weeks inside it, six of which were at the top spot. That record had been held for almost seven years by the Killers with 'Mr Brightside'. Another of its records (having stood for over 7 years) has now been broken. Having spent 10 of its first 11 weeks inside the top 3 in the summer of 2004 it's now been surpassed by Bombay Bicycle Club whose 'Shuffle' has been inside the top 3 for each of the last 12 weeks, including four at the top. It spent two weeks in the top 10 beforehand so is almost certain to convincingly beat the most weeks in the top 10 record held by 'Not In Love' which would put it in an excellent position to become the longest running entry in my personal chart history.

 

Onto other things, Ben Howard's debut entry climbs to the top this week in its fifth week on the chart, stretching the run of folk influenced/acoustic songs at the top to 12 weeks now. Four new entries this week, each of which are post-album single releases by acts who've already spent time on the chart this year, two of them having number ones.

I do quite like Ben Howard's album from the listens I've given it so far, although I do think 'Keep Your Head Up' is the main standout.

 

'Holocene' and 'Shuffle' are so good, they're definitely going to be very high up in my End of Year chart, both are amongst my most played songs of the year and given how much I've played them so far it wouldn't surprise me if they ended the year as my two most played, they're just perfect. I haven't even begun to get tired of 'Shuffle' yet, it still sounds as fresh as it did when I first downloaded it back in June, shocking I've been listening to it for so much for so long.
