Britain's Got Talent winner Jai McDowall has announced details of his debut album.

 

The singer will release his first studio effort Believe in the UK on December 12, coinciding with his performance at this year's Royal Variety Performance.

 

McDowall will release his cover of U2's 'With Or Without You' as the lead single for the campaign, which heads up the LP's tracklist.

 

Speaking about his song choices for the album, the talent show champ explained: "I was brought up with a lot of country music like Kenny Rogers, but I've got quite eclectic tastes and have everything from Iron Maiden to Britney Spears on my iPod.

 

"I like a lot of R&B but I also love choral music. It kind of depends on my mood but I'm very open-minded about music."

 

The debut disc includes covers of tracks by Coldplay, Evanescence, Green Day and Josh Groban.

 

McDowall has also teamed up with Hayley Westenra for a rendition of 'The Prayer', which was famously recorded by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli.

 

"Instead of recording it in Italian we've done it in English," McDowall noted. "Hayley was a dream to work with and she's got such a beautiful voice."

Quite liked the guy on BGT, but that tracklisting makes me want to slit my wrists. "With Or Without You" has been covered to death, "Fix You" and "How You Remind Me" will be formulaic at best and HE'S COVERING f***ING BOULEVARD.

 

Sorry, I get rather tetchy about these things. Hey, at least "The Prayer" isn't a Bloc Party cover!

That tracklist is NOT what I'd have expected from him! :o

 

Well, Boulevard, How You Remind Me and Bring Me To Life mainly. Still won't be getting it, I'm dreading what he'll do to the 1st and 3rd (also Fix You and One Day Like This for that matter)

 

With Or Without You is standard though. If he has the other 5 I mentioned, why With Or Without You as the first single? That makes me dread hearing these covers even more.

I'm guessing 'The Prayer' will be the Anthony Callea song?

 

I really can't see this album doing well at all. A possible top 10 new entry off the back of the Royal Variety Performance, then it'll go into major plummet mode never to be seen again.

 

Shame as, like C H A R L I E ?, I thought Jai came across as a genuinely decent young lad with a decent voice. Just a shame they never consider giving these types some new material to make the most of their initial impact.

I'm glad he got signed, was starting to get worried Simon would just ditch him! he was far better than Ronan imo

 

I must say I LOVE that tracklisting, some of my favourite songs ever in there :wub: but big meh at an album full of covers, I just hope he does them justice (which I'm doubtful about, admittedly)

Eugh a cover album, why bother.

Nice enough track list, I LOVED him on BGT, but I might just cherry pick a couple of tracks.

Must 'Fix You' be included on the tracklisting for every BGT nobody's debut album? :drama:
