Did you know that most XF appearances by big stars aren't live though? Same for BGT guests performing. They may have other commitments or be elsewhere that night. Sometimes they're pre-recorded in front of the audience and judges the previous night (for screening Sunday) or the week before. Very few appearances are live. Just because we see Rihanna or Buble on the X-Factor final doesn't mean they're actually in the studio that night. ;) Some may be live but believe me some are definitely pre-recorded. They seem live due to the judges and audience being there.

Think so. I'm talking about throughout the series though. Some appearances are recorded.

She is touring on the night before too. I doubt they would let her record a performance with someone and then they don't even make the final.

I can vouch for this :) Went to a results show Mariah Carey was performing on and she wasnt there, they showed her performance on a screen to us but on TV was portrayed as live (meaning she was there, there and then)
