January 6, 201213 yr if Home Again is anything to go by, I'm glad with that and look forward to hearing his future material :D I'm really hoping he proves everyone wrong and has success this year, although admittedly Azealia Banks and Frank Ocean do seem a bit more suited to the charts
January 6, 201213 yr Hmm... disappointing winner for me, I'm not one for Michael's kind of music, but good luck to him anyway. I'm quite interested to see how well all of the acts do, I don't see Michael being the biggest in the end...
January 6, 201213 yr Michael wouldn't be my choix winner but he's OK, best of luck to him I guess! He will admittedly sell more albums than most, if not all, of the top 5 but he won't be THE big 'Sound Of 2012'. Then again none of these 5 will, it'll be Lana Del Rey and Emeli Sande I think. Skrillex will have OK success on both charts, Azealia will have fairly big singles but mediocre album sales and Frank Ocean will be a bit like Skrillex I think. Michael will have a big selling album I'd imagine and perhaps one decent selling single, perhaps kind of mirroring Plan B on a lesser scale?
January 6, 201213 yr Just decided to check out Michael Kiwanuka... Oh my god, potentially my new favourite artist. Definitely going to buy his album! Reminds me of Jack Johnson.
January 7, 201213 yr Author Dry, dry, dry and as ever, so money and power behind him from the offing. As time goes by I come to dislike this sort of fetishised approach to 'selling music'. Building on hype because the year happens to have changed. All we're doing here is putting a bloke who signed to a label for megabucks, on a pedestal and we will judge every element of what he puts out, musically, visually, chartwise or else. It's totally bankrupt in terms of ANYTHING that makes you a real musician? When I was 17 I found this such an invigorating process. 'New' talent being exposed for all. Now is it purely a vehicle for who has the best slicked A&R and money to make something totally INAUTHENTIC look more than AUTHENTIC for the blogworld circa 2kWHATEVER...
January 7, 201213 yr Michael Kiwanuka was the only one I hadn't heard of. I wish it could have stayed that way. :manson:
January 7, 201213 yr Michael Kiwanuka was the only one I hadn't heard of. I wish it could have stayed that way. :manson: [2] poor azealia rly got shafted imo. she should've been the winner just for the fact that it would be nice to have a consistent female rapper who can actually represent what it's about - i am a nicki fan but rly she doesn't do it justice and she's all we've got major mainstream wise... the weeknd, skrillex etc. should've done soooo much better. this michael guy was obviously designed to be a hit whether we wanted him or not. GO A W A Y boraaang maaan.
