Posted November 9, 201113 yr http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/58806123/Cur%20De%20Pirate%20PNG.png Cœur de Pirate (French for “pirate heart”) is the stage name for Béatrice Martin (born September 22, 1989), a Canadian pop singer-songwriter from Montréal, Québec, Canada. She writes and sings mainly French songs and is sometimes attributed to nouvelle chanson. Béatrice has played the piano since the age of three, which was initiated by her mother, a professional pianist. She later played as a keyboardist in the post-hardcore band December Strikes First when she was 15 years old. In March 2007, after five years of music education, she started composing her own songs. After a brief stint as keyboardist for Bonjour Brumaire, a French-Canadian indie rock/indie pop band, she released her solo debut album Cœur de Pirate in 2008 on the Québécois independent record label Grosse Boîte. The album found much critical acclaim and was subsequently nominated for Francophone Album of the Year at the 2009 Juno Awards. http://preview.filesonic.com/img/52/78/86/4259165.jpg 01 Lève les voiles 02 Adieu 03 Danse et danse 04 Golden Baby 05 Ava 06 Loin d'ici 07 Les amours dévouées 08 Place de la République 09 Cap Diamant 10 Verseau 11 Saint-laurent 12 La petite mort n7vYo6l06lo 'Adieu' is one of my songs of the year and 'Blonde' one of my albums of the year and 'Adieu' one of my videos of the year. November 9, 201113 yr Oh what a gorgeous song, naturally I don't understand a word but that doesn't matter when it's that good. Great video too, the girl who's head explodes like the watermelon is an inspired idea.
November 9, 201113 yr WOW. Heard some good things about her but never got around to checking this out til now, it's like Yelle if she's grown up listening to 60s ye-ye records. My interest in the alum has definitely been piqued.
November 9, 201113 yr Author The album is absolutely wonderful. REPEAT, repeat, REPEAT. So charming, charming so.
November 10, 201113 yr She's a great singer. For the last few years I've tried really hard to like her songs, but there's something about them that I find a bit boring. :(

November 10, 201113 yr Her first album was very good and pretty big in France. You should check her first big hit "Comme des enfants" (Like children) : PaUI6Tvd1sA  Edit: Acutally "Pour un infidèle" is even better : heI6UT55ZZ0 "Adieu" is a great song too. Love it. November 12, 201113 yr QUÉBÉCOISE LANA DEL REY. Except cuter. She's okay, her lyrics seem almost as saccarine as Adele's. I'm in two minds about Place de la République in particular, I can't decide whether to proclaim it wonderful or self absorbed. Fortunately the Frenchness makes much of the lyrics lost on me so IT'S FINE.
November 12, 201113 yr Ehhh.. she has a decent enough voice but idk, i've given 'Adieu' a couple of listens now and i'm still completely indifferent to it. I don't think Cœur de Pirate is for me, i'm afraid.

November 14, 201113 yr Oh Harvey! This is the most ridiculously poncey post I have ever read on this forum. Just enjoy the musick!!!! Oh dear, reading back it actually is! Nonetheless, I stand by my point and SHAN'T enjoy the musick. The French is a nice novelty, considering how so much music is in English, but I still don't want to listen to an album full of hooks such as "J'ai laissé mon coeur loin d'ici / I left my heart far from here". Adele-esque indeed (and for me that certainly isn't a good thing). Have I just out-ponced my previous post?

One of the joys of foreign language music (that you do not fully understand) is well...the fact you don't..."understand". Let yourself be taken away with the French simple saccharine element to her music. I don't see the Adele comparisons? Totally different vocal tones. The only similarities is that they are both Singer-Songwriters. Let's BUNG Flo + the Machine in with them all why not?

The only similarities is that they are both Singer-Songwriters. Let's BUNG Flo + the Machine in with them all why not? I'm doing French next year at uni / approaching fluency in it, so while it may be a foreign language, it's not as if I can't understand it, though of course not fully. The French-French tend not to have any threshold for sentiment (you only need to look at some tourist guides to see. Or an awareness of sarcasm, similarly - indicating sarcasm in Harry Potter translations require more than just "d'un ton sarcastique" to explain the meaning to French readers!) so I suppose we could apply that to Québec aswell. And no, she's not similar at all to Adele in terms of vocals, which makes me like her far more as she doesn't try to create Adele's forced-gutwrenchers. For both artists the lyrics seem a little lowest common denominator to me though, which was my criticism. So let's not bung Flo in, she goes in that small 'trying to remake Hounds of Love' pile (though I do still like her). I'll still listen to her simply so I can hear some French and I like her, I'm just not going to be 'omg she's so lovely' because I have a COLD HEART.
