'We Found Love' getting a sixth week at no. 1 would be fantastic. It's been a genuine popular hit and the fact it's managed 5 weeks at no. 1 at this time of year (X Factor season without any X Factor performance until tonight). Rihanna could well do the double with having the no. 1 single and album next Sunday.

With Olly Murs performing on X Factor next Sunday there's a good chance his sales won't plummet too much in its second week.

Just a shame this X Factor charity single is getting released a week tomorrow as I'm sure it'll be another pointless cover that adds nothing to the music industry. Would actually be great to see 'Wishing On A Star' miss the #1 spot altogether. Sadly I suspect it will be no. 1 possibly for 1 week before it plummets never to be seen again after 6 weeks.

To be fair, the X Factor Finalists song probably won't add anything to the music industry, but neither does We Found Love. I love Rihanna, but it's just a big hit. Nothing more. It's hardly any different to SOS or Don't Stop the Music or Disturbia or Only Girl.

What's Olly Murs done that JLS failed to do?

I think he meant go to #1. JLS, The Wanted, Cher Lloyd and One Direction all missed #1 (both on iTunes and officially) recently, even though we might've expected them to. And they all had X Factor performances aswell, which Olly hasn't had (yet).

get to no1 on itunes with their latest singles

Olly Murs has done what Cher, The Wanted, JLS and One Direction failed to do and they all had an XF performance under their belts too.

I doubt he will remain at Number 1 after Rihanna's 'performance' on the XF though

Unbelievable isnt it. I agree he won't stay there. He may not have had an XF performance this week (has next week though) but he has the show to promote himself on week after week by presenting the Xtra Factor which obviously helps his image. He's the new Cheryl Cole.

i would say that was awful! And is a big no for longevity!!

Really? I'd be overjoyed if I released a song at it sold 15,000 today and 7,000 on Saturday!!

Get to number 1 in Itunes :)

At least One Direction and JLS were number one in official mid-weeks, even if they weren't number one on Itunes. I thought they had been at the top of the Itunes listings early in the week as well, but it looks like I was wrong. Apologies.

well giving the way rihanna is going, songs like 'we found love' are adding to what will be her 'legacy'. where as the x factor finalists song is just an anomaly.

Xtra Factor has been like one long advertisement for Olly's single. It's not over. :D

Lol, every Olly single has been frontloaded in the first week. Selling well then falling back a lot! It has only after a few weeks does he consistently sell the same amount...without the big day to day dips!!

I didnt think Rihanna was great, but she did enough!!!

DWMT has had little coverage so will have more steady sales than his other singles as people discover it IMO. Alot of stations are only just playlisting it now. We will soon see!

Maybe he means just in terms of this week?

Correct. :)

i think he means her x factor boost

Yeah I reckon Rihanna will overtake Olly but it'll even out as her sales drop off. Let's not forget Olly was outselling Rihanna before her performance and although Rihanna has improved he's still number 1 as things stand. Once her boost has worn off I think it'll be close. Just my opinion, could be totally wrong.

How could a single thats been out for 7 weeks be frontloaded!

Of the two is what I said. They're in competition for this week, that is the focus of what we're talking about in this thread isn't it, this week.

Rihanna's lead is going to be incredible huge. Can see it now. :heehee: So happy she performed WFL.

Big jump for Rebecca too :o Such a dull song.

Well, obviously that will happen to We Found Love, since it's a big hit. Just that it isn't adding anything to the music industry. Meaning it's not like Yeah! by Usher, Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani, Low by Flo Rida, Hit Me Baby One More Time by Britney Spears, In Da Club by 50 Cent, Try Again by Aaliyah, Believe by Cher, etc. It's not a song that's going to add anything to mainstream music, ignite any trends, shape popular music in the future, etc. There's really nothing unique about it, and it's jumping on the current trend. Just a catchy electropop song, like 100 other chart hits this year. It's just selling more than almost all the others.

But anyway, it's Rihanna, who I love, so I don't really mind if she's successful. But I can't deny the song isn't anything special.

The sales of 'We Found Love' in 7 weeks says everything. Over 500k and still selling like hot cakes. That's the definition of a genuine popular hit.

If 'Wishing On A Star' is still selling over 70k in its 7th week in the UK charts then I will admit I was wrong and that it really was a genuinely popular song. However, it's blates obvious it'll have high first week sales and be out of the top 40 by its 7th week in the chart.

Has this Kelly Rowland single only just been released? I thought the album was out ages ago

Well, I said in my post about We Found Love that "it's a big hit".

I don't know how to explain it, but maybe a bit like Give Me Everything by Pitbull. A massive hit, but what has it contributed to music? Absolutely nothing.

I think a foreign (US?) version of the album was released, but the UK version hasn't been released yet, and you couldn't cherrypick off the other version. That's what I think it was anyway, I might be wrong.
