Well, I said in my post about We Found Love that "it's a big hit".

I don't know how to explain it, but maybe a bit like Give Me Everything by Pitbull. A massive hit, but what has it contributed to music? Absolutely nothing.

Yet "Try Again" by Aaliyah did? Sheesh!

Well, obviously that will happen to We Found Love, since it's a big hit. Just that it isn't adding anything to the music industry. Meaning it's not like Yeah! by Usher, Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani, Low by Flo Rida, Hit Me Baby One More Time by Britney Spears, In Da Club by 50 Cent, Try Again by Aaliyah, Believe by Cher, etc. It's not a song that's going to add anything to mainstream music, ignite any trends, shape popular music in the future, etc. There's really nothing unique about it, and it's jumping on the current trend. Just a catchy electropop song, like 100 other chart hits this year. It's just selling more than almost all the others.

But anyway, it's Rihanna, who I love, so I don't really mind if she's successful. But I can't deny the song isn't anything special.

I'm not sure what most of those songs added to the music industry? Maybe we found love might change dance music away from every song being about being in a club or 'on the floor'.

Hurrah ! Hopefully more people get to know about this song now she got in that top 10 ! :D
well giving the way rihanna is going, songs like 'we found love' are adding to what will be her 'legacy'. where as the x factor finalists song is just an anomaly.

Legacy? She just records any song the record company wants and then promotes it. Shes not particularly talented but for some reason has a huge fanbase. The only thing I will give her credit for is her work rate as she never seems to stop.

Yes. Timbaland and Aaliyah's work together was revolutionary. In the late 90's they were combining RnB and hip hop in their songs, and having mainstream success with it. And well, we all know what type of music dominated the following 10 years. Dr. Dre and Mary J Blige did similar. Do a Google search and read up about it.

Well, personally, I'm a Rihanna fan because I love songs such as Live Your Life, Unfaithful, Hard, Take a Bow, What's My Name?, Rehab, etc. Rihanna has released many of my absolute favourite songs, which is why I consider myself a Rihanna fan. It doesn't bother me that she's not talented or doesn't write her own material tbh. She's just my favourite pop star because she releases so many songs which I love.

I do agree with Eric_Blob (for once!), as much as I like Rihanna 'We Found Love' is a total nothing song really. Vaguely catchy and good to dance to when drunk, but so are many other songs. The only thing that's excited me about this current era so far is 'Where Have You Been', unfortunately the next single is possibly the worst thing she's even recorded so far.

She is doing no different to many of the great pop stars that have come before her. You know as well as I do that it isn't as simple as just recording anything and it will be a hit. She has several songs in her career that never took off. She works hard, releases great songs and gets the image right. As for her constant outout, it is even more impressive to me that she remains so successful doing that as there is never a 'rihanna comeback'. the 'comeback' element is what britney and madonna have been living off for their last couple of albums.

Kelly doing so well with her new single, really didnt expect it to get to #5 even though i love her, i wonder if she'll perform on X Factor? I wonder why they havent got her on..and she's not even on next week

Kelly is performing on the semi-final (December 4th). I wonder if DFW could be Kelly's highest peaking SOLO single since 'Stole'?

So are 1D out of the top 10 already?

It says here that she will be performing in a couple of weeks or something: http://thatgrapejuice.net/2011/11/kelly-ro...tor/#more-54148

I hope she performs Lay It On Me rather than Down For Whatever. The latter is so appalling, I'm actually shocked.

I wonder hy they chose Dec 4th?

Thats same night of A Night In With Beyonce on ITV1 which is going to be INCREDIBLE!

And you guys are talking about WFL not giving anything to music, but fact of matter is Rihanna has put herself in the music history books, and thats all that matters really, all these huge hits are helping build one of the biggest pop stars of all time! :o

To be fair you could say that about many pop stars. A lot of them arent particulary talented (not meaning Rihanna). It's more about image than singing ability in a lot of cases. Very few have more than a couple of years at the top for that reason. They have their time and then someone else comes along and takes their place.

Olly, One Direction,Cher, Cheryl Cole and many others fall into the category you describe (at least for me) but people like them so they sell. The songs aren't life changing and I doubt they will be remembered but they are liked at the moment. Being a pop star has nothing to do with singing ability. I bought many a Britney Spears album for example but is she a good singer-no not really.

She's performing 'Down for Whatever' as part of a medley, with two other hits :D

Loving the top 10 right now, with Kelly, Rebecca and Olly all looking set to début there officially next week. I love 'Dance with Me Tonight' (in fact it's my favourite single of his to-date), but I would prefer Rihanna to get a sixth week at #1 on Sunday; which I think would be the longest run at #1 since 'Bleeding Love'? :o

Glad to see Rebecca's single making an impact but I can't help thinking her performance would have been better used to get Olly number 1. She'll need all the help she'll get to sell enough albums to keep her deal so I woulda thought a performance just before her album was out would be better for her.

We found love is certainly nothing special, it's a generic dance song with a few lyrics repeated over and over. It's decent but I think the imediacy of it is it's main appeal. No need to engage the brain in any way plus it has Rihanna's distinct tone so her fanbase go mad for it. A quirky hook though I suppose. I prefer most of her last album to it though.

At a guess it'll be When Love Takes Over/Commander/Down For Whatever. :P
