I think if this was EastEnders you most certainly would look too hard and say 'as if' :P !

indeed i would, but eastenders takes itself seriously, the ott 'dumb dumbs', the shock in the storylines, the hyperbole... emmerdale however doesnt take itself seriously, it almost parodies itself, so imho it can get away with it. in general its a much lighter (and possibly realistic) drama.

car crash tv.. superb last night, sally was brilliant in her siltent, deadly plan... she is BRILLIANTLY cast, didnt you just want to reach into the tv to help the stricken ashley? wasnt it disturbing in the bedroom? WONDERFULLY dark... fantastic storyline, pisses all over eastenders ridiculous 'body under the tree' nonsense.

Gosh Rob, I really do wonder why you feel you have to put EastEnders down every time you praise Emmerdale. Nobody mentioned the former and you didn't have to in order to support your viewpoint. There's a seperate thread for that, although since you've decided to mention it I'm not sure burying a body only for a tree to be planted on top of it is really any more ridiculous at all than getting function out of a man who you've drugged to the high heavens.

I do enjoy Sally as a camp sort of villainess and the moments last night where she dropped the pretense about everything she'd done were enjoyable but I actually found it distinctly uncomfortable seeing her caress Ashley in his bed. I didn't really think that was the right place to take the storyline and I know that amongst my housemates it induced outright laughter, nobody was commenting on how 'dark' it was. I much preferred the Rodney/Sue element of the episodes if I'm frank, it's a shame she's not sticking around.

its called 'comparison', how tf can i go on an eastenders thread and criticise it without getting the usual idiotic responses like 'dont watch it then'... actually, you are at the vangard of that <_< .

oh come on...that rodney storyline is pathetic, hes NEVER had a good one! what a load of bollox, lying about his job... yawnsville...

funny? yes it was, just like the league of gentlemen was... dark, uncomfortable drama, laugh or be repelled?... great storyline!

Preach it Phil. He's awful. Well this storyline is, the actor is rather convincing but it can frequently make for painful viewing.

Tonight is REALLY DEEP. Aaron and Paddy are both playing a complete blinder. Properly brilliant.

I really like how with the Aaron being gay storyline they've made a point of choosing a character who is as unstereotypically gay as you can get, I think something like that is quite a positive for the public perception of gay people. Not only that but they've covered a lot of the feelings and emotions someone goes through when struggling with their sexuality.

Bravo!

The whole character annoys me, i can't stand him. This storyline he's in is totally cringeworthy, the proposal tonight was painful as hell.

I totally didn't know you watch Emmer. You need to post more (and you Aly and Ryan), it's normally just me and Rob, ranting and raving!

I agree Aly, although my dad about five minutes from the end exclaimed 'OH THIS IS SO BORING IS IT SOME LESSON ABOUT HOW IT'S OKAY TO BE GAY'. Secret homophobe.

Yeah, when i'm home it's always on. And corrie, and apparently Hollyoaks now as well.

I've watched it for years and he's always irritated me.

The big 'fight' tonight was such a let down. The most outrageously poorly faked pile of crap since Richard Hilman 'killed' Maxine with a spanner in corrie

Fantastic episode tonight. The 8pm one obviously. The 7pm with Sam as Phil and Jark discussed was not enjoyable viewing lol. As for Holly. Dear god that girl can't act.

Aaron/Paddy scenes exactly what I hoped theyd be. This whole storyline has hit very close to home with the way Aaron has dealt with being gay. Not that I ever kicked anyones head in or worse but his general hatred off all the things associated with being gay.

I am so pleased they chose him for this storyline.

i think hes great! hes not abit like that in real life.

yep a completely fantastic episode, danny miller did play a blinder , much better then eastenders :P :P :P lol.

exactly... dealing with being gay but hating gayness, brilliant storyline, what a refreshing take of 'coming out' in a soap and its great to see that not all gays are being portrayed as mincing queens on tv soaps.

See, Emmerdale needs some quality control. Great episodes are often followed up by very average ones and I felt like they dealt with the aftermath of Paddy's beating quite poorly. Pearl for starters would surely have seen his bruising through the glass in the door? Marlon and Chas wouldn't have settled for such a rubbish non-explanation either.

On the other hand I like how they're dealing with Holly and how she's downplaying the drugs but it's all undone by the fact that Sophie Powles is a truly dreadful actress, like astonishingly bad, on the same sort of level as Mark Wylde or Nick Cotton. Also I like Natasha but would they please have her stop yelling at everybody who isn't her family for no reason whatsoever?

I agree with Jark, tonight was a let down. The whole aftermath thing was p*** poor.

Sam still needs shot. -_-

i agree with you mostly... but not about holly, i like it when emmerdale uses 'ordinary' people, it gives it more reality... yeah shes a plank, but not everybody in real life is lively.

i cant stand natasha, imho shes the worst actor there and the most unlikeable character.

I have to disagree with you there rob. Natasha is AMAZING. I love her.

I loved Katie Hopkins in the Apprentice tho....

After his performance last week, Danny Miller playing Aaron... those scenes were some of the most powerful and true to life I've ever seen on ANY soap. And absolutely some of the finest acting, too.

He so deserves the Best Actor award at the Soap Awards..... brilliant.

I hope Emmerdale trounces the other tired soaps this year - it's by far the best at the moment I think....

agreed 100%.

im really impressed by the aaron storyline, and highlights the angst some closet gay people must go through, its great to see this angle on a person trying to come to terms with being gay.

ive never rated ashley either, although the part needs a simpering wimp and he fits the role perfectly. but this uncomfortable storyline where this 'good man' has been totally destroyed, slowly, but evil sally (brilliantly cast) is genius.... watching helplessly as ashley falls apart ... his best storyline in 14 odd years on the soap.

i turned back at 8.... i much prefer the emmerdale second half to the extended unentertaining, hyperbolic, e..... oh you know what im going to say!

Last night's double was great. Emmerdale is definitely on a roll. It's a real shame only 4.4m saw the second episode since some of the acting from John Middleton and Charlotte Bellamy was marvellous but I suppose the first half was more intense anyway. I like that they intersected it with some proper comic relief too. Charity is very easily one of my favourites... and finally I'm liking the new (returnee) locum vet, Rhonda I think? She's going to cause some agony for Marlon isn't she? Should be fun. :D
