How is SuBo and Sats both at 16 in the album chart btw? :P

Sorted

Where's GBY by 1D please? I'm assuming the song they have listed under top 30 is WMYB? :)

10+1

Is Gotta Be You really out of the top 20 already?

EDIT: Oh that'll be WMYB I assume, Carry on.

Will sort this out to make it a lot clearer in a minute. just hang on.

do we have sales figures for albums?? Well done to Westlife. . .

And no

One question.... the 59K for Rihanna are from ONE or TWO days of sales? What can I expect for the whole week? 150K?

Absolutely gutted for The Sats :( nothing unexpected though. They were so stupid to launch the album with MHTO.

I don't think it was stupid at all. The marketing strategy was:

* to release more singles before the album to catch more attention;

* to release an album in Q4 to gain more sales;

* to open it with a ballad single which are always doing much better in Q4 and generate much more album sales than uptempo singles;

* they were looking at how well 'Issues' has done singles and albums-wise.

No matter how good the quality of Sats' songs is they won't be able to 'get' it. Maybe they will 'do a Girls Aloud', release their Best Of which might be a massive seller a la 'Sound of Girls Aloud' and become really huge only after that.

And I hope that 'Little Mix' thing won't be the next big UK girl-band... We basically need the new Sugababes*, they will fit in very well.

* Sugababes - not the actual current band or even Keisha/Mutya/Siobhan, but the completely new band with the Sugababes 1.0-2.0 indie vibe.

Midweek Chart: Rihanna outselling One Direction's first album

11:09 | Tuesday November 22, 2011

By Paul Williams

Rihanna’s newly-released Talk That Talk looks likely to deny former X Factor contestants One Direction an instant number one with their debut album, but Olly Murs appears poised to steal the Barbadian superstar’s singles crown.

The Def Jam/Mercury artist’s new album is currently around 6,000 ahead of fellow new release Up All Night by Syco’s One Direction, while Official Charts Company figures suggest this coming Sunday’s UK artist albums chart will be headed by three brand new albums as the RCA-issued Greatest Hits by Westlife is presently in third place.

While she is outperforming One Direction on album sales, Rihanna is unable to compete with another of the show’s former finalists – Olly Murs – on the singles chart. The Epic artist’s newly-issued Dance With Me Tonight is the week-to-date’s top-selling single with around 34,000 copies sold so far, 6,350 sales more than Rihanna’s second-placed We Found Love, which topped the singles chart for a third week last Sunday and was performed on the X Factor results show that same evening.

Several other cuts from Rihanna’s new album are also showing up in the chart, including You Da One and the title track featuring Jay-Z, while sales of her Cash Money/Island-issued single Take Care with Drake have increased by 535% on the week to move it 12-9 on the chart.

The X Factor theme extends further down the singles countdown as the show’s judge Kelly Rowland’s new Universal single Down For Whatever, which features The Ways, is showing up as a new entry at three, while 2010 runner-up Rebecca Ferguson’s first single Nothing’s Real But Love, which she performed on last Sunday’s show, is new at seven.

Meanwhile, En Vogue’s Atlantic-handled Don’t Let Go (Love), which reached number five in January 1997, is the week to date’s 16th top seller after the song was covered by X Factor contestants Little Mix on last Saturday’s show.

Atlantic artist Flo Rida has the week so far’s fourth biggest single with Good Feeling, which entered at two on last Sunday’s chart, while the track it samples – Levels by Universal-signed Swedish DJ Avicii – rubs alongside it as a new entry at five.

Back on the albums chart and there could well be five new entries in the top six on this coming Sunday’s chart as 50 Words For Snow – Kate Bush’s second new album this year – is presently ranked in fifth place, while a place below the Fish People/EMI album is Here And Now, the newly-released album from Roadrunner’s Nickelback. Reprise/Warner Bros’s Michael Buble album Christmas, which climbed to number one last Sunday, is now in fourth place.

As his single Lego House remains among the week’s 10 biggest one-track downloads, Asylum/Atlantic act Ed Sheeran is enjoying a strong pick-up in sales of his debut album +. Its sales are up 54% on the week, although it drops 7-9 because of the wave of new entries above it.

The rush of new entries continues lower down and is led by Polydor act The Saturdays in 16th position with On Your Radar, while other new arrivals to this Sunday’s chart will include new sets from Reprise/Warner’s Seal, 19 Recordings/RCA’s Daughtry and Peacefrog’s Charlene Soraia. An A&M/Polydor re-issue of The Rolling Stones’ 1978 album Some Girls is ranked in 32nd place, while Sony’s latest posthumous Michael Jackson album Immortal is 36th.

Jesus at Ed Sheeran's album sales. '+' will easily reach double platinum status this year.

I'd like to know what's the gap between #2 and #3.. Kate Bush's previous all-new solo album 'Aerial' opened with 90k so anything under 75k would be a bit disappointing.

I predict the whole top 5 will sell 70k.

Regarding The Saturdays: Lou Reed & Metallica started at #17 with Lulu and they dropped to #36 in the end.

I like how Ed goes up 54% in sales yet still drops 7->9. FINALLY the sales are picking up. They will still be a disaster this year compared even to last year.

To be fair they compare like for like so it will be this Tuesday's mids vs. last Tuesday's, where he was #10, however that's still fairly impressive, Ed, Adele and Bruno are holding up really well, should be top 10/15 for a while. Good to see Coldplay still doing well too, holding up solidly again.

I should imagine pre-orders are added to first day sales, the 59k for today will drop gradually as the week goes by, I'm guessing at the moment anything between 150k to 180k. Also people will end up buying the album for Xmas presents so you really can't tell

OMG @ The Sats.

And I thought they couldn't flop any worse. :o:(

Would expect the saturdays to fall from #16 by end of the week. Probably, frontloaded.

its clear the latest Saturday singles havent connected in the same way with the public than compared to some of their earlier stuff. shame really.

so pleased DWMT is at no1 hope he can fend Rihanna off till sunday

even more pleased to see 1D are behind TTT i did think they might beat her but happy to see that i was wrong

ouch at the sats although its not surprising seeing the song they launched the album off didnt do that well

i wonder how much futher they will fall during the week

Fuming MJB isn't top 40

Damn for the Saturdays... I'm a huge fan but I believe this is the end for them. Not the end like it was during Wordshaker. This really is the end.

I'm glad I'm coming all the way from Brazil to see them on tour because it seems this will be their last one together.

I do agree sadly. I love them and am sad about it, but I honestly don't see how they can claw their way back from this. :( I expect the album will be around #24 on Sunday too.

That's a pretty decent lead at #1 for Olly. I do hope he holds up for a few reasons ( A) the song is very good and deserves to be #1 anyway, B) it'll be funny that this goes to #1 without an XF performance when 'With Ur Love', 'Take A Chance On Me' and 'Gotta Be You' didn't manage it with one, should easily outsell all 3 as well I'd think and C) it opens up a possibility for We Found Love to join the very short list of songs to be #1 three times as I'm sure it could manage a return to #1 in the next 2 weeks).

Avicii top 5 and ahead of Rebecca :cheer: Kelly top 3 though :puke: I hope both versions of Levels can overtake it by Sunday.

Maroon 5 at #10. How annoying. Fingers well and truly crossed something overtakes it by Sunday (Coldplay would be ideal but honestly I wouldn't mind One Direction staying top 10 ahead of it in this scenario!)

Good to see Rihanna beating OD's album, hopefully her lead will extend significantly over the week. Poor Westlife will probably have to settle for a #4 with this GH as I can't imagine they're that far ahead of the Boob.

'21' at #11, it's gonna be a close call for it to stay top 10 but I think it could manage it, it might overtake Snow Patrol. I did expect it to be about #18 this week but there are several big underperformances from this week's releases (The Saturdays, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga - not even top 40 after her first remix album went top 3? Ouch).

Nice sales increase for '+', I really hope this can become a million seller in the long run. I still think it was a big mistake to lead the album off with You Need Me, I Don't Need You.

I assume 'Mylo Xyloto' is #7 today? Not too bad at all considering there are five new entries ahead of it, hoping for a sales increase this week.

JLS (02-08-21)

One Direction (03-11)

The Saturdays (15-26)

^ Awful chart runs - and to top it off, One Direction are set to debut at #2 in the albums chart, The Saturdays at an incredible position of #16 and JLS tumbling 6 places to #8 already.
