It is a retro light hearted love song about Madonna's feeling for her then husband Sean Penn. The song made the top of the charts in the UK, Ireland & Canada. It was the 10th biggest selling single in the UK of 1986. The music video also went retro with the 1950's look and a totally blue background. It also features her real life friends Erika Belle and Debi Mazar (she was also the Papa Don't Preach & Music videos). Sire records and Mtv ran a contest called Madonna's Make My Video Contest which MTV asked its viewers to submit their own videos for their own True Blue video. The winner was awarded a trip to MTV's New York studio where Madonna presented a $25,000 cheque live on MTV. Madonna has only performed the song live on the Who's That Girl Tour back in 1987. November 24, 201113 yr Author I love true blue because it's nice that she did a soppy song (yes, she is allowed to do one every so often). Clearly she was so in love with sean. I think it's a forgotten song due to the fact Madonna hasn't done anything with since 1987 it probably has bad memories for her with sean I guess. I wouldn't say no to a 2012 version on the next tour lol I doubt it tho. I love the color mix (US spelling lol). Her live performance was awesome too.
November 24, 201113 yr It's always been a bit too "cutesy" for my personal taste, and a girl at school who I dated (in the 10yr old sense) used to sing to me all the time! Anyway not one of my fave's!
