February 14, 201213 yr Fair point... although Ivy is really the underdog since the audience is obviously expected to be rooting for Karen. :D
February 14, 201213 yr I can Karen being a Rachel Berry character. Totally overused and we're meant to love her and she's supposed to be a main focus but I won't take to her. Saying that, Rachel has reached a level of full QoL-ness in Season 3 but I doubt Smash will get a Season 3 :P
February 15, 201213 yr The scene with the son in it was horrendous, he couldn't act at all. Other than that, I really enjoyed the second episode. Definitely on Team Ivy. Though I have heard rumours that she could in fact be pregnant. :kink:
February 29, 201213 yr I'm really surprised at just how good this show is. It feels really well written - it has loads of strands to balance and seems to be giving fair time to all of them without skimping on making the characters and relationships engaging and fresh. And the original songs are fantastic! I think the quick decision on Marilyn's casting (though I don't expect it's that cut-and-dry) has really helped Katharine McPhee - this week was particularly interesting, as she had to learn to be more of a team player, which is what she strikes me as anyway. Ironically, I think she's actually coming out of herself and just about starting to show some star-power. Debra Messing might be my MVP so far, never thought she had it in her! Much softer and more likeable than she ever was as Grace.
March 1, 201213 yr So far it's been great fun. It's so GAY. :D If I have one criticism it's that the last episode featured one musical number too many. Nick Jonas was surprisingly good in his guest spot.
March 17, 201213 yr Author Episode 6 was my favourite since the premiere. Really liked the Jessie J cover and felt some sympathy for Ivy at that point but at the same time she makes a great bitch. Michael Swift can do one and so can the son.
March 17, 201213 yr Agreed! Debra Messing is so good, it's a shame she's having to suffer this dreary affair story. Focus more on Eileen's divorce please! That said I'm absolutely loving it so far, it's so ridiculously entertaining.
March 30, 201213 yr Author 'Touch Me' is fantastic. Completely loved the last episode. http://www.amazon.com/The-Music-SMASH-Cast/dp/B007P6VM04 Album available to pre-order, hopefully this means we're getting full versions of 'Shake It Out', 'Who You Are' & 'Brighter Than The Sun'.
March 31, 201213 yr I've been v v vocal about my love for this show but the last episode was appalling! Nothing about it worked, it all felt random and disjointed. The whole thing about the 'new direction' for the Marilyn musical was bollocks and a transparent attempt to shoehorn a modern pop song in. Why not just have Karen record it/perform it for a label exec or something? Even the Eileen stuff fell flat. Just blah. I'm sure it'll get back on track soon enough... I think Uma Thurman makes her debut within the next couple of episodes. Much excite! :D
April 4, 201213 yr Author OOH so much drama. Loved the last ep, the kid is the only weak link. Crazy Ivy was good but I also liked her slight bond with Karen too. Uma next week. :D The billboard advertising a Fox show didn't go unnoticed either.
April 5, 201213 yr This has gone so off the boil since the musical itself faltered. I am not watching this for covers of rubbish Rihanna singles that sound as cheap as Glee!
April 10, 201213 yr If Karen ends up playing Marilyn, I'm going to be really annoyed. Are we honestly expected to believe that Karen is better suited to the part than Ivy? "Never Give All the Heart", for example, was tragic. Katharine McPhee has a beautiful voice, but her version of the song had no emotion, she sounded nothing like Marilyn and she even did a pop riff in it. Seriously? Come on now. -_-
April 11, 201213 yr Author So NBC promoted that episode as "guest starring" Uma and then she was only in it for 30 seconds at the end? Pfft. Generally quite good overall, some nice developments with Ivy/Tom/Julia/Derek/Karen/Dev.
April 12, 201213 yr UK air date is 21 April :w00t: I've missed the hype more or less, but I'm planning to watch this at least until it becomes a high-end version of Glee.

April 17, 201213 yr That song had me in tears, and I'm emotionless. I don't quite understand how, but I suppose that's all down to you as a person. Either way, it wasn't Marilyn at all.
April 25, 201213 yr Author Debra Messing has been submitted for Emmy considerations as a lead actress but Katharine & Megan have both been submitted as supporting. Is it possible the son can go missing more often and not come back? He can drag Ellis along with him too although I hadn't hated him as much as everyone else seems to up until now. The Bollywood number was quite odd to begin with but I enjoyed it more as it went on.
June 13, 201213 yr I was watching this at UK pace but got compelled to watch it all and so did. It's really rather terrific. There are obvious flaws - The son's totally inability to ACT being the main one, seriously the crying scene almost had me in tears of laughter at the sheer level of incompetence on show. Ellis is a creepy little c**t - thank God he won't be back. Him lurking in the back of EVERY BLOODY SCENE at the crucial moment was rather irksome. I'm very much team Karen though, I do love Katharine which probably helped that along a bit, but I prefer her voice to Megan's too. Derek's VISIONS were a tad silly. I think she totally proved she was a good choice with the finale though, Don't Forget Me was incredible. My favourite songs/performances: Let Me Be Your Star (obviously amazing), 20th Century Fox Mambo, 1000 and One Nights and Let's Be Bad. The pop covers didn't really ring quite as true for me, especially not Shake It Out which sounded really quite awful. Anjelica, Debra, Megan and Katharine are all obviously fantastic though. Dev was also absolutely AWFUL too, I really did not get him, he blew hot and cold for so long and the story across the final episodes was ludicrously awful. Again glad he won't be back.
