Confirming Coldplay are performing. (Also Leona, JLS and One Direction - pretty disappointing line-up there, Coldplay aside then. Surely they could get some other big worldwide acts to come on if they can manage to get the likes of Gaga, Rihanna and Katy Perry to come on every year?)

 

EDIT: Michael Bublé also confirmed. He's another big worldwide star but an incredibly clichéd one.

That WAS the previously announced deal. Until this week, it seems...

If they use a cover, surely they make less money than if they get someone to write a new song even if it does sell 10-20% more because it's well known?

 

Who is 'they'? The production company?

 

If Gary Barlow writes a new song, he gets the writer's royalties. The X Factor may also give him a fee for writing it.

 

If a Damien Rice song is used, Damien Rice gets the writer's royalties. Same with any other cover version.

 

So, the possible fee is the only thing affecting the production company. They're not affected by the royalties, one way or the other.

Good to see Coldplay appearing. Rumours are that Stevie Wonder will also appear

 

Bit gutted that Barlow hasn't written the song, another cover of an average song isnt the way forward for the show's creditability :thinking: Just hope that awful Nirvana song attempt flops madly
