Everytime I hear "Dark Paradise" I'm CONVINCED it's Sophie Ellis-Bextor singing it.

I tried to listen out for this but I can't quite see it, I even thought it was more reminiscent of Marina in the opening verse.

I bought this album today, gonna listen to it all later but I'm liking it a lot so far! (as expected)

I think Lana is overrated/hyped personally but this album is more varied than I expected, for some reason I expected a load of Video Games/Born To Die sounding songs. Might make a purchase later in the week but 'National Anthem' is EASILY my favourite right now.

Summertime Sadness is possibly my favourite from it, but the album is quite diverse. I think it's good though because it allows her to find her market and really press for it next era...

I also love Blue Jeans, Video Games, Born To Die, National Anthem and there's another as well. I was going to get the deluxe edition but I prefer my albums in the plastic cases, not the card ones.

The sales are amazing for the album, 70,000 already so 100,000 is looking highly likely now.

Really should have gone for the deluxe version, Lolita is worth it all on it's own.

I'm really warming to this as a whole, there's about 7 tracks that I adore and the similar style is fine by me as it brings the whole thing together. I can see me listening to this a hell of a lot over the coming year.

I bought the deluxe version from Amazon and got it on Monday - the extra 3 tracks I like a lot. It's a real grower of an album. And there's no doubting it sounds like the soundtrack to some new wonderful David Lynch movie.

I do think the shoddy, humdrum cover art lets it down, though... it should have been devastating and iconic...... it's not.

This is What Makes Us Girls is my favourite track - pop genius.

Laughable review from the chronically out of touch Rolling Stone, which describes Del Rey as 'just another aspiring singer who wasn't ready to make an album yet. Given her chic image, it's surprising how dull, dreary and pop-starved Born to Die is.' Oh Rolling Stone.... do people REALLY still bother buying you? Pop-starved? Are you deaf?

I'm a little bit in love with "National Anthem", even though it sounds a little like Lana doing an impression of Nicki Minaj covering "Born To Die" at times... or something like that. Awesome chorus, pulls me in like Florence's "Spectrum" did.

It is deaf. Its album of 2011 was Adele's 21.

well, 21 IS a great album... but best of 2011? Naaaa.

After giving the album many listens over the week, my rate is:

11 Born To Die

08 Off To The Races

10 Blue Jeans

10 Video Games

08 Diet Mountain Dew

09 National Anthem

08 Dark Paradise

09 Radio

07 Carmen

08 Million Dollar Man

09 Summertime Sadness

09 This is what makes us girls

08 Without You

07 Lolita

09 Lucky Ones

I think it's a FANTASTIC album, definitely one of the best I've heard in a while.

Lana performed 'Video Games' on Letterman last night.

"It don't get no better, that was gorgeous," declared Late Show musical director Paul Schaffer following Lana Del Rey's Thursday night performance of "Video Games." Host David Letterman agreed, asking the much-hyped newcomer whether she could come back the next day. "And how about Monday?," he cracked.

I prefer the demo of 'This is What Makes Us Girls' :(
The album is a bit of a grower, definitely.

Time to rate the album!

Born To Die - 10, so beautiful and haunting. I don't know really how else to describe it...

Off To The Races - 7, it has a decent chorus but I'm not feeling it massively.

Blue Jeans - 10, I find this really catchy and it's definitely one of the highlights in the album. The silky chorus works great with the harsh verses.

Video Games - 10, It feels so divine and well crafted and real. Infact, a lot of my high rated tracks feel "real". I can see why this was the track to help her be discovered.

Diet Mountain Dew - 8. It has a different feel to everything else so far and feels more uplifting. It's also quite overwhelming but it's a tune. Reminds me of something that Paloma Faith would sing which is probably why I also like it a lot! I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it though.

National Anthem - 10, I think the demo would have been the best thing on the album but the final polished version fits with the album better anyway. Still, I love it!

Dark Paradise - 7, I do like the verses but I feel the chorus really brings it down.

Radio - 9, She sounds about 80 on this one but it sounds interesting and its charm eventually grows on you!

Carmen - 5, it has some vague tune but Lana has weak vocals on it and it's probably the most forgettable on the album.

Million Dollar Man - 6, I find this quite bland.

Summertime Sadness - 11, IMO this is the best on the album. It's catchy without being annoying and it's another track that you can feel her raw emotion. I love it so much!

This Is What Makes Us Girls - 9, has a pleasant tone and is quite relaxing without being boring.

---

Without You - 7. It's alright but more of the same.

Lolita - 8. It's a bit different to the rest of the album though her voice grates on me slightly here.

Lucky Ones - 7. It's okay, a bit boring.

Overall: I think this is an album that has been underrated by critics. No, not every track is perfect but you can't deny her storytelling and song writing ability. The vocals lack on some tracks but this isn't really an issue. Overall I'd give the album a 9/10 (out of 11) and I was pleased by it! I think it's similar to Ceremonials, in the way that the first half of the album is definitely better than the last half, but it's also quite consistant through.

Sorry to double post, but apparently Lana said that she might re-release her first album from the Lizzy Grant era somepoint this year for the fans. I'm excited about it as I have no idea of even what the tracklist was!

If you look hard enough there are copies lurking about on the internet.

Track listing:

1. Kill Kill 3:57

2. Queen Of The Gas Station 3:04

3. Oh Say Can You See 3:40

4. Gramma (Blue Ribbon Sparkler Trailer Heaven) 3:55

5. For K Part 2 3:24

6. Jump 2:51

7. Mermaid Motel 3:59

8. Raise Me Up (Mississippi South) 4:22

9. Pawn Shop Blues 3:26

10. Brite Lites 2:58

11. Put Me In A Movie 3:13

12. Smarty 2:49

13. Yayo

Apparently she isn't doing another album :( She's said that she doesn't want to, because she'd have nothing to say, as she's said all she needed to...

Obviously as she's just released the first (well, second) album of her career it's a bit early and she probably will end up doing one anyway
