February 7, 201213 yr Not a fan of 'Carmen' or 'Lolita' then? Not really, no. They're okay(ish) but I find them a bit tacky in comparison to some of the other tracks. I think I've mentioned earlier that Lolita reminds me of Nicola Roberts and it sound out of place to me... Carmen is okay but I don't miss it when it's not there.
February 7, 201213 yr I find 15 a bit too much personally. My current version is: 01 Born To Die 02 Blue Jeans 03 Video Games 04 Diet Mountain Dew 05 Dark Paradise 06 Off To The Races 07 National Anthem 08 Summertime Sadness 09 Radio 10 Without You 11 This Is What Makes Us Girls About 45 mins and much more palatable. I might listen to the album like this, as they are all the best songs, I am not really a fan of 'Lolita' or 'Carmen' and I really like 'Lucky Ones' but probably wouldn't miss it, as it sounds like some of the others. However, I would replaced 'Diet Mountain Dew' with 'Million Dollar Man' as DMD just doesn't do it for me, by far my least favourite off the album.
February 7, 201213 yr As it happens, Million Dollar Man was my 12th track original but I scrapped it at the last moment. Diet Mountain Dew isn't exactly one of my favourites either but I do find it breaks the flow of mid tempo stuff quite nicely. Either way, there's definitely a very strong 10 or 11 track pop album in there.
February 7, 201213 yr Out of interest, does anyone else get a Paloma Faith vibe from 'Diet Mountain Dew'? For some reason I could easily imagine Paloma Faith singing this and sounding pretty much like how Lana does on the track.
February 7, 201213 yr Of the 6 (i think) tracks I've heard at various points 'Diet Mountain Dew' is easily the one I like most after 'Video Games', which is what's making me doubt I'll like the album as it's not really representative of the songs I've heard or what I imagine to be like, and it seems to be the song with the lowest ratings from the people who've done it in here, making me think if they like that less than the rest I'm almost certain to like the rest a lot less.
February 7, 201213 yr Try it and see! I have no idea if you would like it or not, I certainly wouldn't bet on you doing so though...
February 8, 201213 yr Of the 6 (i think) tracks I've heard at various points 'Diet Mountain Dew' is easily the one I like most after 'Video Games', which is what's making me doubt I'll like the album as it's not really representative of the songs I've heard or what I imagine to be like, and it seems to be the song with the lowest ratings from the people who've done it in here, making me think if they like that less than the rest I'm almost certain to like the rest a lot less. You're overthinking WAY too much. Just listen. It's not like you don't even have an hour because your listening schedule is planned months ahead, is it? Ha.
February 8, 201213 yr ...just YouTube the songtitles - they're all on there if you want to hear. this is the best advice
February 8, 201213 yr Been listening to the album on Spotify. It's pretty darn good. Yeah, the songs are all quite similar, but it was still an enjoyable listen. :) 10.0 Born To Die 08.5 Off To The Races 08.0 Blue Jeans 10.0 Video Games 08.5 Diet Mountain Dew (I actually quite like this) 09.0 National Anthem 08.5 Dark Paradise 06.5 Radio 07.0 Carmen 09.0 Summertime Sadness 10.0 This Is What Makes Us Girls The deluxe edition songs are only available for Premium members, so I've got to wait till March for those songs (my birthday). February 9, 201213 yr Now Paloma has been brought up, I really want her and Lana to do a duet! :P I think it could actually work really well and I could imagine the song being really catchy!
February 9, 201213 yr 'National Anthem' is f***ing amazing, my clear favourite after the two singles.
February 9, 201213 yr Has the concept of rating something as 11/10 been changed? This REALLY annoys me. No offence but it sucks all meaning if you go and give it to 3 tracks on the album, I only ever use 11/10 for my absolute concrete favourite, and even then I wouldn't have it for every album. Even my favourite album of all time (Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson) only has one 11/10, my favourite song ever Because Of You  That might even deserve 12/10 :P
February 9, 201213 yr Has the concept of rating something as 11/10 been changed? When there are that many 11s they must be rating out of 12, surely?
February 9, 201213 yr Does it REALLY matter? I use 11s for songs that are brilliant, and those three are, what's the problem?
February 10, 201213 yr Gave it another go (if Dandy likes it then it must be good, right?) but the entire thing really is the definition of mediocrity. Sorry folks.
February 10, 201213 yr Ditto. Only really into the singles and the National Anthem demo. Lolita is kinda growing but that's it.
