Well, if you're playing Walcott and Young it can't help but become a 4-3-3 when we're attacking.

It won't though. It will be a tight, and compust to break down. The wide players will probably be tucked in.

Darren Bent misses out yet AGAIN. Unbelievable.

He's injured!

I find the calls for Crouch, Holt and Zamora bizarre. Crouch is nothing special, he's had an ok season at best, gives away far too many fouls at international level and whenever he plays ALL we do is constantly hoof it up to him and hope, no matter who is manager and who else is on the pitch.

Overall, I have little complaints about the squad, Richards and Carrick the only real omissions you could begin to describe as glaring, I'd have probably put them in for Barry and Downing. Only Ashley Young has made more assists for England since the World Cup, and his Liverpool record isn't for lack of trying, he created enough chances to get assists. Glad Rio is out, regardless of reasoning, he's past it now and I wouldn't trust him to play so many games in such a short period. And if it had to be either him or Terry I'd much rather it be Terry given they'll be playing between Cahill and Cole.

One thing is for certain, this squad is a MASSIVE improvement on the shower of shite Fabio took to South Africa!

Initially I had a lot of qualms with this squad, but I've grown to realise it's not that horrendous. So glad The Ox is being given a chance; I think that's the main thing. The only real issues I have are the obvious ones of Downing (it's like Roy is trying to have a joke but we don't quite get the punchline) and no matter what people say I guarantee Rio over Terry is the wrong call.

Also I'd take Richards over Johnson anyday and Jones isn't even a right back.

But I do think this gives us a much better chance of getting out the group than Fabio ever would have.

Micah Richards isn't anywhere near the class of Glen Johnson. Richards is probably better defensively overall, but only because he relies so much on his strength. Johnson is quality, and as a modern day full-back I think there's only two or three that are better than him. His "poor" defensive capabilities are not as bad as the media would have you believe. People just don't understand the way modern football works.

Best of both worlds would have been to take Richards over Jones, given he started out as a centre back.

Hodgson even said in his press conference that it was "Richards or Jones" and not "Richards or Johnson". He wanted Jones because he believes he can play CB and RB well, but surely Richards fits that description too ?

As for Downing.. I would have picked Adam Johnson instead, but everytime I've watched Downing for England over the past year he's always done much better than anything he's ever shown for Liverpool, so I can understand why he was chosen

Think the squad is quite strong but realistically not a euro 2012 winning squad. however we all have to keep the faith incase we are proven wrong and we are winners. I can imagine the genuine shock on this website if we actually won. Beat germany in the final lol.

Not a chance. I'm more hopeful we'll get out the groups now than I was under Capello, but I'm firmly confident we won't get past the Quarters. Happily be proven wrong, but I won't be.
I'm BORED of the hype already. Roy is being set up so badly for a fall by the press, I feel quite bad for him.

Martin Kelly to join the England squad vs. Norway

Good experience for him. I'm guessing Phil Jones will play CB ? Why else would they need cover at RB ?

So Woy has brought in a right back as back-up as some players are have been given time to rest so FINALLY its a chance for.......................

:banghead: <<<< Micah Richards right now

EDIT: Sabrina just beat me so that ruined that.

Oops sorry haha

Roy probably didn't want to pick Richards just incase he did play and had a good game. All you'd hear is "Should have picked Richards" from the media and fans

I doubt Richards be happy being called up for just one game either, which wouldn't be great for team moral. Whereas, Kelly knew he had little chance of making the squad anyway, so he'll just be grateful for being selected

Martin Kelly is good, bur Richards is better.

I'd guess the justification is Capello was a fan of Kelly, and wasn't of Richards. And Woy's said he didn't want to change too much from the players called up.

Richards supposedly refused to be a reserve to the 23 so he's decided on Kelly for this one off game instead. Good decision if so, petulant and childish.

Norway squad news:

Green, Jones, Jagielka, Lescott, Baines, Gerrard, Parker and Carroll will all start

Remaining potential starters/substitutes: Hart Kelly Barry Downing Milner Walcott Young Oxlaide-Chamberlain A.Johnson Henderson Defoe

Ruddy injured and replaced by Butland

G.Johnson and Welbeck out of the match, but should be fit for Belgium

Terry, Cahill, Lampard, Cole, Sturridge and Rooney not involved

Downing, Milner and Young the other three starters. All 6 subs likely to be used, meaning Barry, Defoe, AOC and Walcott should definitely get time + 2 of the reserves or Hart.
I hope Gerrard isn't playing in a deeper midfield role. Rather he was played in a number 10 role behind Carroll, but think it'll be Milner and Downing on the wings, Young supporting Carroll and Gerrard playing alongside Parker

Christ we need Carrick.

It was pretty typical really, would've been the same whoever was manager, but I don't suppose you can complain with a win when nowhere near full strength.
