15 Adele - Rolling In The Deep

From the album: 21 (year end number 16)

Personal chart peak: 3

UK chart peak: 2

Personal chart run: (18-11-7-3-5-7-15-22-22-24-28-34)*while chart was top 40

Now this lady pretty much owned 2011 and she hasn't done too bad on my chart either! I can't belive the run/peak for this though in my chart, so undeserved :o This brilliant soul/blues/pop track was her comeback single and the lead single for the mega selling album 21. On first listen, I wasn't sure and predicted this era to have less success than 19! How wrong I was... This kickstarted a record breaking era (in so many ways) for Adele, as 21 broke sales records at a catastrophic pace, and became the biggest selling album of the year worldwide by outselling numbers 2 and 3 on the list combined! In addition, Rolling In The Deep spent 7 weeks at the top spot in America and became the biggest selling single of the year there, and subsequently worldwide. It was a big hit in the UK too, peaking in the top 2 and becoming one of the biggest hits of the year.

It has to be said I am pretty much one of those deluded One Direction fangirls, except I have ears and loon over a decent act :smoke: Any hate for them and I go into fully defensive mode, and attack. Anyway, this is a lovely cover of an already great song - not as copycat as previous winner's songs as they really make it their own with a pop/R&B arrangement of this folky song. REALLY excited for what 2012 brings for these amazing girls.

13 2NE1 - I Am The Best

From the album: 2NE1 2nd Mini Album

Personal chart peak: 16

UK chart peak: N/A (1 in Korea)

Personal chart run: (17-18-16-20-28-xx-16-21-28-24-32-34-37-47-56-63-66-71-67-69-75)

This is probably the biggest shock of the countdown (aside from a DNC making top 40 :P), a song which barely made top 20 almost making the top 10 EOY :o Tbh I never showed love for this enough in peak, but it did have incredible longevity for the peak it got. I love 2NE1 and have for ages, when I heard this it was instantly the best thing they've ever done for me, and my love hit new heights when Botanikka (Addy) sent it in BJSC - and it DNQd  However, it did win The Best Of Rejects (rightfully so as it's the best song sent to BJSC this year full stop!) - just. I love singing along to this even though I can't understand a word of Korean  Watch out for these girls in 2012 btw, because with their English launch up coming you're gonna be hearing a lot about them...

12 Lady Gaga - The Edge Of Glory

From the album: Born This Way (year end number 1)

Personal chart peak: 2

UK chart peak: 6

Personal chart run: (2-2-5-12-13-12-13-15-13-16-18-23-29-34-39-42-42-43-44-45-48-52-56-59-64-66-65-67-64-63-61-60-66)*still charting

The 2nd of Gaga's entries is promo single The Edge Of Glory, which later saw a full scale release as a 3rd single. I have to admit initally I found it overrated but it grew and grew throughout the year and is now among my BTW faves actually. The longevity it had in the UK despite the lacklustre peak was brilliant, same goes for my chart actually as it stuck around a long time.

11 Adele - Set Fire To The Rain

From the album: 21 (year end number 16)

Personal chart peak: 9

UK chart peak: 11 (<_<)

Personal chart run: (6pl-26-29-29-24-13-15-11-9-9-13-14-18-22-24-29-35-39-46-51-56-60-66)

Probably another shock here, as this had a low(ish, for an EOY number 11) peak, it did have a good run though. This epic uptempo (well, relatively for Adele) track was an instant love for me, it stood out from the rest of the pack and was definitely a great single choice. It had THE most infuriating peak position in the UK however - number 11... It joins SO many great tracks (Battlefield, Party In The USA, I'm Yours, The Climb, See You Again etc.) in being really close to top 10 but missing out :( It's doing fantastically in the US already, she did the unthinkable and got ANOTHER number 1 :o One thing though - WE NEED A BLOODY VIDEO FOR IT :drama:

Ah, it was Adele! It's getting #11 everywhere! (except the US :D) Easily my favourite of hers still. Nice to see Rolling In The Deep not too far behind though.

And I agree with everything you posted on Little Mix (with one caveat, that of What Makes You Beautiful), love those girls and can't wait for new material from them. I still listen to Cannonball occasionally, which is quite amazing this long after the series has finished.

10 Christina Perri - Jar Of Hearts

From the album: lovestrong.

Personal chart peak: 3

UK chart peak: 4

Personal chart run: (9-8-6-7-9-13-18-22-27-33-36-xx-19-22-30-34-40-xx-25-xx-7-3-6-11-16-22-23-25-29-32-29-18-23-30-34-45-50-51-60-55-59-64-68)

Even though I had heard this in June 2010, the blowing up of it over here made me fully love it again, even mroe than I did first time around. It had a decent run in 2010, and notched up even more weeks when the UK finally took notice. Thank god for Adele starting the piano ballads trend eh?

09 Britney Spears - Hold It Against Me

From the album: Femme Fatale (year end number 11)

Personal chart peak: 1

UK chart peak: 6

Personal chart run: (1-2-6-5-5-6-7-9-8-8-9-10-10-14-14-18-19-20-22-24-27-29-33-35-39)*while chart was top 40

While we had the 'forgotten popstars suddenly have massive hits' trend, there was one megastar who noticably struggled with thier current era commercially - Britney. Which is a shame, as Femme Fatale is abrilliant album :( And this was a stomper of a lead single, Britney was back with a bang and armed with club beats, pick-up lines lyrics and a kliller dubstep breakdown. Still at the top of her game, even if the public can't see it.

Are we not DONE yet?

08 The Saturdays - All Fired Up

From the album: On Your Radar (year end number 5)

Personal chart peak: 1

UK chart peak: 4

Personal chart run: (1-1-1-1-1-4-2-4-7-9-10-15-17-21-25-31-34-40-44-54-56-57-59-64)*still charting

The final entry from these girls is their house-pop 2nd single from On Your Radar. It was released on a very busy week, which was a bit stupid because on a quiet week it could've got number 1! Then again, the way it fell even as it charted at 4 was a bit fast, it would've been a non-number and then some so perhaps it was for the best. Even though it's very repetitive, I think it's good to see them trying new sounds and this is among their best for me. This glossy electro-house tune spent 5 weeks atop my chart, I adore it

07 Lady Gaga - You & I

From the album: Born This Way (year end number 1)

UK chart peak: 23 (

Personal chart peak: 2

Personal chart run: (7pl-xx-32-26-16-3-2-5-8-11-12-16-16-17-20-16-20-19-23-27-29-31-32-33)*still charting

This gets FAR too much hate for 'killing the era'... I will admit it wasn't a good single choice at all, and I can see why it flopped but I absolutely adore it. Have done from first listen - I'm a sucker for country and this mixes said genre with rock & roll to craft a fist pumping arena stomper that is pretty far removed from usual Gaga. It was a nice surprise on the album (saying that we had the live version since 2010 so knew kind of what to expect) amongst all the glossy, inventive electro/dance-pop. It was stopped from the peak position by All Fired Up but is having incredible longevity and deserves it's spot here!

06 Olly Murs ft. Rizzle Kicks - Heart Skips A Beat

From the album: In Case You Didn't Know (year end number 6)

UK chart peak: 1

Personal chart peak: 2

Personal chart run: (8-3-2-3-5-4-5-10-12-17-26-27-31-33-34-38-37-38-39-38-35-36-35-35-42)*still charting

Matching the EOY peak of his album is my sexy husband to be Olly Murs :kink: I think I've whored about him enough in my comments for Dance With Me Tonight, and as this is about the music it doesn't matter that I want to ride him like a donkey (stealing your saying their Granty babes :D). Or that I love the fact he ain't shy about getting his kit off. Or that he has a lush arse and bluge (have I mentioned that already? :P) Or that he is literally sexy head to toe. But yeah, anyway... This slice of ska infused summery pop is just what Olly is best at, this song cheers me up when I listen to it and it certainly earns it's place among my top songs of the year.

Top 5 will be posted and countdown finished tomorrow :D

05 Katy Perry - E.T.

From the album: Teenage Dream (2010 year end number 2)

UK chart peak: 3

Personal chart peak: 1

Personal chart run: (2-4-3-5-4-11-10-1-2-6-15-21-24-25-28-34-35-35-38-40)*while chart was top 40

(not the official video because that's the Kanye version :()

This was a big change from Katy's usual fun, simple pop - a complex and layered electronic hip-hop style song with floaty vocals and a cutting chorus. But it so worked, it stood out immediately when I heard the demo which leaked around the time California Gurls came out, and I love it as much to this day. STRICTLY the Katy solo version for me however, the blasphemous Kanye remix can fuck off thank you very much.

Don't EW #4 Man de le Regina :smoke:

E.T is my fave Katy song,

04 Lady Gaga - Born This Way

From the album: Born This Way (year end number 1)

UK chart peak: 3

Personal chart peak: 1

Personal chart run:(1-1-1-2-2-2-3-4-5-7-6-8-7-8-9-10-10-12-12-13-14-18-19-24-30-34-38-43-47-51-53-60-64-67-70-71-73-71-74-73-72-73-75-72-71-70-75-73)

Next up is the penultimate entry from the current Queen Of Pop, which was the lead single from her massively amazing 2nd album. Anticipation was high from all corners before this premiered, especially mine. I rushed home from school and literally played it at least 60 times in one day. And still, almost a year on, I am no less in love than I was then. It's a shame this was a victim of the dreaded Friday release, even though it shot to number 1 on iTunes within little more than an hour of release with a mega lead, the fact she only had 2 days of sale meant that she 'only' peaked at 3 with this gem (still a respectable peak I know). It's just too amazing, an empowering (maybe a bit cliche but I don't care) uplifting anthem with a message and it's so damn catchy. This >>>>>> Express Yourself. OH YEAH I WENT THERE. It's spent nearly a year in my chart, which just shows how damn amazing it is

Yes but his hairy chest makes me wana cling on for a while :P

NO NO NO NO, Express Yourself>>>>>BTW but I love both.

03 Adele - Someone Like You

From the album: 21 (year end number 16)

Personal chart peak: 1

UK chart peak: 1

Personal chart run:(1-1-2-3-5-6-9-11-12-15-18-19-22-25-30-33-34-39-xx-33-30-35-41-42-51-52-58-63-65-66-69-72-74-74-72-69-74-74)*still charting

OK, so finishing runner up is the tres emotional ballad from Adele, Someone Like You. It gets everything you want in a ballad spot on, and is one of only two songs to ever make me cry (the other, for the record, is Hurt by Christina Aguilera). Ever since I heard her sing it live little over a year ago when she was still 'the fat one who had more hype than Duffy but didn't do anywherenear as well', I knew we were onto something special, and then came the absolutely stunning BRITS performance... One of the best live performances I've ever seen. And the rest is history! WIth the performance able to download, combined sales with the album version (which had hit top 40 on cherrypicks) rocketed so that it ended up number 1 shortly after the show aired, and went from top 20 in the first mid-weeks up to number 1 officially by Sunday and held the top spot for 4 weeks, and then got another week after knocking Nicole Scherzinger (who ended Someone Like You's 4 week stint with Don't Hold Your Breath). By the end of the year, it had sold over 1.3 million copies, making it comfortably the best seller of 2011 in the UK, and it also gained her a 2nd straight US number 1 and made the EOY top 10 there. Duffy who?

Two amazing year defining songs left, both probably pretty obvious  Any guesses before I post? :P

02 Demi Lovato - Skyscraper

From the album: Unbroken (year end number 12)

UK chart peak: released in February (10 in US)

Personal chart peak: 1

Personal chart run: (1-1-3-5-7-9-12-13-15-9-13-16-20-25-27-28-33-39-42-44-45-50-55-58-33)*still charting

Demi has undeniably had a real tough time between the release of her last album and the release of her latest one - she was in rehab and struggling with all sorts of personal problems. Despite the album largely being an upbeat party album, she really laid her troubles bare with this heartwrenchingly emotional ballad. I have to admit, much as I love Demi, I doubted if she could pull off a vocal like this! However, when I heard just before release Skyscraper was a ballad, I was all fired up and it certainly didn't disappoint. One of the most beautiful songs of the year - I'm already a sucker for a ballad but when it comes from someone who's been through so much and makes it feel so personal, it's all the more affecting. Some may find her voice irritating but I think the fact it almsot breaks off in parts makes it so much more emotional, and her vocal performance is bettter than ever. It just shows how much I love this that it very nearly stole a last minute victory from the 9 week wonder... :o

And here it is, the best song of 2011, as if you didn't all guess it by now... :P

01 Lady Gaga - Judas

From the album: Born This Way (year end number 1)

Personal chart peak: 1

UK chart peak: 9 ()

Personal chart run: (1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-3-3-3-5-6-6-7-8-8-10-9-9-9-11-12-14-15-17-16-18-18-20-22-25-26-27-29-31-32-37)*still charting

Well it was never going to be anything else was it? With a mammoth 9 weeks on top of my chart, Judas is comfortably by miles the biggest hit since I started my personal chart, and is still only just outside the top 20 all these months on :o Everyone anticpated a 'new Bad Romance' (one of my top 5 of all time) and I must say she came pretty damn close with this... I know hardly anyone else agrees, but RedOne totally struck gold with this. I don't find a poor rehash of Bad Romance at all, to me it's a natural progression and adapts the already winning formula to create another stroke of genius. When this premiered, I was instantly infatuated, and played it AT LEAST 70 times (god what a loon ) in the first day :o And it stuck for 9 whole weeks, smashing so many chart records for me! But the Friday release AGAIN struck for Gaga, and although this hit number 2 almost instantly on iTunes, 2 days was only enough for a number 14 debut :( It did eventually climb to 9 later on, but that's still 8 places too low... I don't know what wrong this era because the music was perfect! Anyway - I'm sure being number 1 here makes up for it :P

---

Full rundown posted in a bit, but it's finally done

Judas is the best thing she has ever done. I HATED it at first but it clicked rather quickly and I have not looked back since.

Skyscraper is a stunning song, its gonna flop here but I am glad I will be able to have it on my iPod

SLY is overrated but still beautiful.

Amazing EOY Liam, so pleased that someone else has Rebecca Black in the top 50. :D  I prefer 'Born This Way' but 'Judas' really grew. Didn't expect 'Skyscraper' to be so high and beat 'Someone Like You' but I'm really glad it is so high. Only a couple of songs I don't particularly like, mainly 'Grenade' & 'She Makes Me Wanna'.
