Girls Generation 'Girls Generation: ~Girls & Peace~' is available to download. (Dunno whether it's actually been released anywhere, or whether it's a legitimate "leak") If you need a link i can direct you to one :D

Oh dear lord...how anti-climatic..

Girls' Generation releases pre-album song "Dancing Queen + "I Got A Boy" comeback MV Teaser

The music video and the song was shot/recorded during the 2008 when this song was fighting for "Gee" to be lead single, with Gee obviously winning (and making the right move tbh..).

They will also be making a comeback on the 1st of January 2013 with an album "I Got A Boy".

Girls' Generation KOREAN comeback track "I Got a Boy" MV + album released!

Girls' Generation - I Got a Boy

Edited by Oricon

I'm kinda new to k-pop so don't really know that much about everyone, but have fallen in love with the genre. It's very cheesy, but when they get it right, boy do they get it right! I'm probably alone on here with this (as they tend not to by popular on forums), but I adore Super Junior, I avoided boybands for ages as I was a big girl group lover, but decided to branch out and they're my fave artist from the ones I've seen. Currently watching SMTown Live in Tokyo from this year to get a general grasp. So far the boybands are slaying the girl groups but I'm less than half way through so that could change.

My fave thing about k-pop: the dancing, it looks wicked, the bigger the group the better it tends to look too! It really puts UK groups to shame in that aspect.

Worst Thing about K-Pop: The samples/covers... there seems to be tonnes of it and I know that's not unusual, but they do it to recent songs so it's really obvious. It kinda bugs me as the original k-pop songs are always so catchy.

Blah anyway... pointless post. But just wanted to join in the k-pop appreciation.

WELCOME! Oh dear a Super Junior fan though, I do get why you can like them indeed. However if you go along their discography, all their lead singles are basically remakes of their most popular and iconic song "Sorry Sorry".

I do agree, K-Pop boygroups put UK boy bands to shame. The way they DANCE and the vocals is just breath taking. It's all done due to the fact they get trained for around 3-7 years vocally, dance wise and even acting and the label then pick the best out of the bunch. The choreography is rather insane too and they're always put on timing.

Girl groups are just as good as the boy groups, although much less fierce, they tend to do more catchier songs in my opinion.

The samples/covers are only prominent in some. For example, I don't recall much plagiarism in K-Pop or covers unless they confirmed it themselves. Like Girls' Generation's Run Devil Run wasn't a Ke$ha song but merely Ke$ha recorded the vocals to the song as a help to a friend who happens to be the producer and the Korean label bought the rights to it, hence why you see both versions online.

Anyways, I hope you branch out on this genre as it's fantastic. If you want to know more, you can always PM me and I'll try and give you the best songs from the genre if possible.

Also another question, do you like SHINee? Since you're watching SMTOWN live in Tokyo, I suppose you've already come across them along the likes of Girls' Generation, TVXQ, f(x) as well as Super Junior.

Hahah I had a feeling you wouldn't be a big Super Junior fan. :P I see what you mean, but I wouldn't say they were copies of 'Sorry, Sorry' just keeping the same style, their latest two singles were quite different and some of their albums track (the ones I've heard anyways) vary quite a lot, 'Butterfly' is one of my faves from them and I don't think it sounds like their usual stuff.

Exactly! It's just insane, I used to think UK/European/US boybands, especially from the 90's and early 00's were really cool... k-pop has basically crushed my childhood because now when I look back live performances just look so messy and lame compared.

I actually LOVED the SMTown thing I watched, it was awesome, at the start I was a bit <_<  but as it went on I really warmed to it and thought it was incredible by the end. I'm not sure on all of the acts names because some of them weren't written in English and shamefully I didn't understand. I did think SHINee were amazing though, I had heard their name a lot when I watched k-pop stuff and had heard a few of their songs, but live they are amazing, they really have such a great energy around them, they were really impressive. All the guys were actually, I think one of the other boybands were Exo? They were really cool too. If TVXQ were the two guys, they were my highlight after SJ-M, they were awesome! I wasn't impressed with the girls so much, F(x) were alright, but I've heard so much about Girls Generation and when watching it I just didn't get it. Maybe it wasn't their best performance and it's unfair to dismiss anyone after just seeing them once, but they were the weakest out of the line up imo. Gonna try and watch some more shows like that though, it was really good!

Maybe there isn't that much samples, but they just really stand out to me when there are some because I know the originals so well. It happens though unfortunately, it's just a shame when k-pop does it, because original k-pop is so amazing it doesn't need too.

Oh yes indeed, TVXQ is the 2 member (formerly 5 member before a scandal). SHINee has a veyr powerful vocalist known as "Jonghyun" which brings the entire group up!

You need to check the girl group performances individually. Shows such as the SM Town in Tokyo don't do them justice. Individual stages where they are hold are much better. Check these songs anyways, they're VERY good by the SMTOWN girl groups:

f(x) - nu ABO

f(x) - Electric Shock

Girls' Generation - Paparazzi

Girls' Generation - Gee

Girls' Generation - The Boys

Girls' Generation - Genie

 Oooh what happened with TVXQ? I think that might be why I was confused as was 'Keep Your Head Down' originally with 5 members? I think I saw the video a few times and thought they were a 5 piece group but when you said TVXQ there and the only option left was the two males it kinda threw me.

I was watching another SMTown last night, the Seoul one I think it was and Girls Generation were much better on it than the Tokyo one. I will definitely give them a chance I'm not up for writing anyone off so early. Will give those songs a listen later today and get back to you. :)

TVXQ split up into the nowadays TXVQ (HoMin) and JYJ (the 3 members who filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment, the label). On 2009, the members filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment which revolutionised the way idol contracts are signed. Before, up to 13 year contracts where allowed to be signed and this excludes training time and the artist barely got any profit from it. They were apparently overworked by the record label and thus filed a case against them. Now, only a maximum of 7 year contracts can be signed as a result which benefitted a lot of idols now and they're thankful.

BUT no-one knows the real truth. If it wasn't for SM Entertainment who trained them and put them up, they wouldn't be the that popular in the first place so I'm neutral stanced when it comes to the lawsuit myself.

I still stand by my previous point. I think that girl groups in K-Pop are much better when doing their own individual stages and not on a big concert one. But yes please don't write them off yet and I hope you will enjoy them! :D

Ok so got around to listening to these, I watched the MV and then a live performance so I could judge them fair. :)

Out of the f(x) songs I prefer Electric Shock, it's very catchy, although I really like both. The 'La la la's' in the first song are really good, I love that bit.

I found the first two Girls' Generation songs a bit boring but 'The Boys' is really good, I am familiar with that one and I definitely like it, it's a bit like a chant, the last one is alright too. I think I've heard others by then that I liked better though, I really like the one with 'Taxi' in it... 'Mr Taxi'? i also am one of the few that like their new one, I do think it's all over the place but I find it really catchy and like all the different elements to it.

Ahh I see, it's a bit weird that two off them didn't file a lawsuit. It's always sad when groups split to me, I really don't like it. But hopefully everything is settled now and it's nice that some good came out of it in the end. I know what you mean, it's hard to judge when you don't know the full story. Presumably JYJ are happy with the outcome and that HoMin are also happy now too, that's all that really matters.

Girls Generation are definitely growing on me. :)

Is it ok if I post this here?

I know they're singing in Chinese, but I still see them as k-pop as most of them are Korean and they are a sub unit of a Korean group.

Hopefully someone else might enjoy them on here. SJ-M really sold me on SJ, Perfection, Super Girl and now this are all great songs imo, plus I really like Henry & Zhou Mi!

Electric Shock is not bad, but I prefer NU ABO which is their signature song. Everything is just fierce for me about it.

I'm surprised you found "Gee" boring. Most people who cannot tolerate the cute side of K-Pop has always warmed up to Gee. Gee is the most iconic K-Pop song out there (before Gangnam Style came but that's another story) and it was that which started the music trend of K-Pop throughout Asia and now to some parts of South and North America as well as Europe. And yes, the Taxi song is known as "Mr. Taxi" indeed and I love it too as it's very catchy! Also glad you like "The Boys" as not many do like it but I think it's SUPERB. Regarding to the new GG song "I Got a Boy", it's very marmite. You either love it or you hate it although I have witnessed that it's a grower so I am surprised you liked it from first listen! :o

Some say it's because JYJ were money hungry and the other two weren't but then again some said all 5 were originally going to sue their label but pulled out presumably because SM Ent. bribed them with more money or something. Who knows the actual truth though.

Yay for them growing on you. They're my joint favourite K-Pop act so I'm glad! ^_^. They also have their separate thread on Buzzjack here if you would like to check out the first post regarding their discography. :D

Yes you may as its a sub unit of Super Junior, a major K-Pop group. No-one here really is a fan of SuJu at all. K-Pop is still a minority genre on Buzzjack which I find it weird as most other music forum has a decent fan base on this Asian music genre. Before I came, it was even less populated with fans as I basically rub it on people's faces here.

I'm not a major Super Junior fan myself. Their lead singles have been far too recycled. This is evident as in Korea, they're becoming flops with each release as they rely on their humongous fan base for sales and bulk buying but fail digitally as their songs don't reach out to the casual fans and public. I've heard of Zhou Mi and Henry though, both controversial Chinese members as at first fans were worried that SM Ent. were planning to enlarge the group and thus they become enraged. I suppose the end result was all they ever became were sub-members. Oh and they have a new song out a couple of days ago, known something along the lines of "Breakdown" I think (it's definitely break something ) which is decent so check it out!

Erm, that was what EP posted :heehee: I like this song a lot actually. Probably their first song I can say I actually care about (though Oppa Oppa was OK, but I know that was a different line up). Still no Bigbang :kink:

  • Author

BIG BANG is hugely overrated. Killed my joy for them even if I actually got to meet them in person in real life. Their attitude is very off putting as well.l :(

Oh and whoops, I was posting this on my iPad so I didn't know what it was.

Not many people like "The Boys"? Wow... that's actually shocking to me as it's their only song I instantly connected with and can remember now, it's so catchy.

Yeah I heard about the "only 13" thing from some Super Junior fans but I don't fully understand it. Kyuhyun isn't an original member either so that fear and backlash should have started when he got added, but as far as I'm aware he's always been popular. I would understand if Henry and/or Zhou Mi replaced a member like Jade replacing Keisha in The Sugababes, that's harder to accept, but when they are simply additions to a group then I don't see the problem really. Apparently they get screamed at to get off the stage and stuff like that and I just find that really pathetic when they haven't actually done anything wrong. I especially feel sorry for Henry being so far away from home and not getting the nicest treatment. Urgh well... I guess the fans got what they wanted really as the two will probably never get added to the main group, it's a massive shame.

Flops, Really? I thought the album went to number one for three weeks and then the repackage hit there again making four weeks in South Korea? And I was also under the impression it had shifted quite a lot of sales? It's sad to hear if they're not doing so well in South Korea though, there does seem to be quite a bit of negativity towards them. Every career has ups and downs though so to not sell as much as previous wouldn't be a huge surprise, imo Sexy Free & Single and Spy aren't as good as their previous singles, so I wouldn't personally be expecting them to do as well.

Hahah yeah I posted the vid for 'Break Down', it's the first song they've released whilst I've been following them so kinda make or break for whether or not I became a fan, it was make though, it's a great song imo.

Ah that's good, I'm glad you like it as well. :cheer:

Still no big Bang? Are they expected to be making a come back?

Yes as for "The Boys", it's definitely a marmite track for some people indeed. Either love it, or hate it.

As for Super Junior, I disagree on that aspect. Kyuhyun got added in early and rather fit in very well, not saying the other two Chinese member didn't but still. You have to learn that adding members to K-Pop groups is a strong NO NO when it comes to Korean fans or International ones. No-one wants another random member or two coming into a group because of a company's decision. If the group is already good, then why wreck it (see T-ara, After School). Henry and Zhou Mi should just stay in Super Junior-M or break off into their own group and I certainly agree with the fans backlash for those who don't want them in there. Of course the heavy booing and diss from hardcore ELFs are not needed but the general point behind it should be kept.

And yes flops. Their album sales are HUGE yes and probably the biggest in recent years but that doesn't mean they aren't flopping. Selling 300k total of an album including repackages and then having the lead single not even impact the Top 5 and end up being outsold by other idol groups much more inferior in popularity to them is a bit WTF. The only reason the album sales are so high is because how loyal their fanbase is. ELFs are like crazy, a bit like the Beliebers, Little Monsters and Directioners in the western music scene. They bulk buy, they mass vote during award shows and use many ways to manipulate the charts so their favourites win. Also very delusional and idiotic in most cases where I encountered them, although some are sane and nice to hang around with I suppose. Another thing to know is, in K-Pop there is no such as ups and downs (well for the majority there isn't anyways). A group won't go and do a Jennifer Lopez and come back after flopping for several years and suddenly go #1. Once a group keeps dropping and dropping, they only get worse and worse and worse in sales. Keeping a steady reputation and good releases is very necessary to survive the K-Pop idol world where over like 30 rookie groups debut in one year.

Oh I see . Break Down is nice indeed but nothing special imo sadly. :(

Golden Disk awards tonight isn't it? I'm going to try and watch it online if I can find a good link, I'm excited for all the performances though, award shows seem so much more exciting in the k pop world than UK music.

Everytime I mention Super Junior on a forum people always tell me how awful ELFs are, I've yet to experience that myself though. For sure they'll be some like with all fanbases, but the ones I've talked too just seem lovely and very relaxed about stuff. It does sadden me the amount of fan wars though in k-pop... well I guess in music in general but with k pop there's so many artists and people tend to be extremely loyal to their faves and become very nasty towards rival artists.

If SuJu had huge album sales like you say I wouldn't call them a flop, the single side of things does seem disappointing but it's not shocking bad to me, both were still top 10 and neither were their best songs. K pop might be different to the rest to UK/Europe/US music but I still wouldn't say people can't come back from 'flops', it's not a rule, it's just the way things tend to go. Someone will break that mold eventually.

I can't believe that around 30 groups debut a year... how do you all keep up? All that plus the ones that are still here! Yikes ha! It's gotta be exciting though, we're lucky if we get a new group once a year that tried to break through. :(
