Fever was a cover of the 1956 hit for Little Willie John, Madonna took her turn to cover it in 1992 while recording the Erotica album Madonna started singing Fever's lyrics over the song Goodbye To Innocence so in the end Fever was put on the album and Goodbye To Innocence was left off the album and only available to buy on the Just Say Roe Volume 7 (a charity album) in 1994. Fever was the fourth single to be released from Erotica, it was released in a few countries and never had a worldwide release. In the UK it was released four weeks after Bad Girl's release. Fever became the highest peaking debut in the UK from the Erotica. The song topped the US Hot Dance Play Charts and went top 10 in the UK, Ireland and Japan.

Music Video

The video was not ready for the UK release of the song so warner brothers did a video of old videos. The actual video made it's world premiere in May 1993 on Mtv (2 months after the UK release of the song). The video is played to the Edit 1 remix. In the video Madonna with a red wig and silver bodypaint in a variety of costumes dancing in front of funky, kaleidoscopic backgrounds rumoured to be inspired by the King & I. The video is included on Madonna's The Video Collection 93:99 dvd.

Performances

Madonna first performed Fever on Saturday Night Live in January 1993. Then on the 1,000th episode of The Arsenio Hall Show she performed a jazzy version this time at one point on the song she missed her cue and said "I'm sorry baby I screwed up didn't I, we all make mistakes don't we". The only time she has song Fever outside of the US was on The Girlie Show World Tour in late 1993 she partially strips and dances suggestively before disappearing among flames.

Since Then

Fever has only appeared on one Madonna album Erotica and performed only on the Girlie Show tour. In September 2008 The Dance Floor Mix was used in television promos for the fifth season of Desperate Housewives.

What do you think of Madonna's cover of Fever ? Should it have replaced Goodbye To Innocence on the album ?. Discuss all...

I do like Fever, I prefer edit one to the album version. The Girlie Show performance was awesome.

It was a shame Goodbye To Innocence was left off Erotica tho. To anyone who hasn't heard of the song check it out!.

I thought her cover of this classic really gave it a real throb. And i definitely prefer Fever to Goodbye To Innocence. Absolutely agree on the GS performance of the song, hot hot hot! The official vid however I'm not too sure, I sorta have a love/hate relationship with it, sometimes I think it's cool, other times I think it's downright trashy.
Do you like it?.

It's alright, not her best, but not awful :) I don't find the Erotica era her best era :P

Erotica is a brilliant album very under rated!!.

I haven't heard any of the album tracks yet, any good ones inpaticular? :)

So.. Where do I start

Bye Bye baby - is a song about a relationship that's broken up and "Madonna" is glad to get rid of him or her lol. She's performed it on the Girlie Show tour and the vmas. It was released as the 6th single in a few places. It's worth a look just for the remixes.

Where Life Begins - a song about oral sex lol .. It's a good song really (sounding now like a pervert). If songs are sexy this would be one.

Waiting - hip hop influenced "madonna or dita" is waiting for a lover with some jazz and a bit of piano thrown in. I love the line in this song "the next time you want pussy, just look in the mirror baby". On Rain's maxi single release includes a remix of this featuring everlast.

Thief Of Hearts - a revenge song about another woman trying to take her man she offers to break her legs and a lot of use of the word bitch. A little rap too in this, some great music with some police sirens every so often.

Words - a six minute song your actions speaking louder than words

Why's It So Hard - do you like the innuendo ? Haha - it's about why can't people love each other. (On the girlie show tour Madonna and her dancers at the end of her performance of Deeper & Deeper they go into an orgy with women with women, men with women and guys with guys before starting this song lol)

In This Life - a song about her friend who was 23 and did of aids. It's a really good song! Worth checking out!.

Did You Do It ? - a rap version about sex by mark goodman and dave murphy with madonna's waiting music in the background and some of her vocals.

Secret Garden - Madonna returns to the dita persona with some sexual questioning.

It's also worth checking out the out takes Dear Father & Goodbye To Innocence.

Not my fave song from her, but I like the exhibitionism of the video :D

Where Life Begins is about oral sex not anal!!
