Posted December 10, 201113 yr Before I start, here's a little disclaimer: This is a Christmas HITS rate, not a Christmas SONGS rate. Not all of the songs have a Christmas theme. This is not an error. Hello and welcome to BuzzJack's Ultimate Christmas Hits Rate :D This is a rate that follows the same formula as danielXF's 'Ultimate' series of rates that took place earlier this year. For those of you who don't remember, the basic premise is that you vote for your ten favourite songs and your one least favourite song from the list and give them points as such: +15 Favourite +12 2nd favourite +10 3rd favourite +8 ... +6 ... +5 ... +4 ... +3 ... +2 ... +1 10th favourite -2 Least favourite The five songs that receive the highest total points from each round will go straight to the final round. The next five highest from each round will go to a playoff round. Today is part 1 of this rate. The 29 songs below are the UK Christmas #1 singles of each year from 1952 to 1980. Part 2 (next Saturday, the 17th) will be the Christmas top 3s of 1981-1990. Part 3 (Saturday 24th) will be the Christmas top 3s of 1991-2000. Part 4 (Saturday 31st) will be the Christmas top 3s of 2001-2011. The playoff round will be held on Saturday 7th January. The top half of the voting from the playoff round will join the 20 qualifiers in the final, which will be held on Saturday 14th January. The final results will be counted down on Saturday 21st January. That's the plan anyway, no guarantees it'll actually go exactly like that :D Any songs that appear twice will be ignored the second time and the Christmas #4 from their second appearance will be used instead. December 11, 201113 yr +15 The Beatles - Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out +12 Boney M. - Mary's Boy Child / Oh My Lord +10 Dave Edmunds - I Hear You Knocking +8 Benny Hill - Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West) +6 The Beatles - Hello, Goodbye +5 Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody +4 Emile Ford & The Checkmates - What Do You Want To Make Those Eyes At Me For? +3 Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2 +2 Conway Twitty - It's Only Make Believe +1 The Beatles - I Feel Fine -2 St. Winifred's School Choir - There's No One Quite Like Grandma That was actually kind of difficult. Maybe I enjoy 60s/70s music more than I often think I do - then again, this is a list of (seasonal) number one hits we're talking about I suppose. I really like all of the top 8 especially. The 1950s is just boring dross of course, though.
December 11, 201113 yr +15 Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody +12 The Beatles - Hello, Goodbye +10 Slade - Merry Xmas Everybody +8 Dave Edmunds - I Hear You Knocking +6 The Beatles - Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out +5 The Beatles - I Feel Fine +4 Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2) +3 The Beatles - I Want To Hold Your Hand +2 Johnny Mathis - When A Child Is Born (Soleado) +1 Wings - Mull Of Kintyre/Girls' School -2 Tom Jones - Green, Green Grass Of Home Excellent to see the return of the Ultimate series. Unfortunately not many great songs are Xmas #1 but still a good rate to do. Perhaps even a Christmas song rate would have been interesting although their is always some debate on what would or wouldn't qualify as an Xmas song.
