December 15, 201113 yr This is a wildcard. It will be either a huge success or a crash and burn. I can't see physicals having that much power these days. This doesn't seem like a good 'gift' unless you are looking for something for grandma and even then, they aren't the granny's of my day. Today's grannys bought the Beatles and Stones in their prime. It doesn't suit the singles target demographic. It all hinges on the pity buy, and that did nothing for the X Factor Finalists either this year. Can it work more for a significantly less popular show? Edited December 15, 201113 yr by Paramore
December 15, 201113 yr I'm still in two minds over the track, I just can't see it at #1 yet, if it does it be insane
December 15, 201113 yr I'm still in two minds over the track, I just can't see it at #1 yet, if it does it be insane So would Simon Cowell be! :w00t:
December 15, 201113 yr I overheard someone ask in a store today if they have the single, so maybe a #1 is on the cards. Here's hoping.
December 16, 201113 yr Mark my words this will sell over 500k opening week... Everyone's really underestimating it, iTunes now has 478 likes over 150 were since they were on strictly it's now #1 in pre- orders on every single site on Cd format( albums/singles). For a start Amazon have said it's outsold Take That's pre-order for progress 3x over and that sold 300k+ (If I remember correctly).
December 16, 201113 yr The only #1 is going to get is the #1 on the Hate Chart 500k is just utter madness For a start Amazon have said it's outsold Take That's pre-order for progress 3x over and that sold 300k+ Surely it can't be just Amazon, and that's for an album
December 16, 201113 yr This is absolutely inevitable :( It is honestly doing 500k AT LEAST. I can't see otherwise.
December 16, 201113 yr The only #1 is going to get is the #1 on the Hate Chart 500k is just utter madness Surely it can't be just Amazon, and that's for an album That doesn't make a difference. They're saying that however many people pre-ordered Progress from Amazon, more than three times that amount of people have pre-ordered this. I don't think that's going to be a huge factor in it to be honest (that figure alone won't be that many) but I can't see it being anything other than huge. At least 200k physicals and 50k downloads, it will crossover, I'd imagine between Coldplay and Little Mix on iTunes.
December 16, 201113 yr Is 'Wherever You Are' an original song? I listened to it out of curiosity on YouTube and it sounds like a hymn. It does have that typically warm yet wintery sound about the track. Plus, if Gareth Malone is involved then there must have been a TV documentary broadcast recently following the choir's development over the months preparing for this. So with seeing other comments I have voted for 500k first week sales and 1 million sales overall. Thing is, tracks are selling more now than they were only 3 years ago. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this sells 1 million copies in its second or third week on the chart then suddenly rocket out of the charts in January.
December 17, 201113 yr That doesn't make a difference. 50k downloads? I watch iTunes like a hawk and generally songs that get to #1 have about 200 likes or so and go on to sell 100k, Military wives has almost 500 likes and has been plugged to death on nearly every big BBC program as well as having their own show which apparently was very emotional etc etc.....So obviously making people want to download it even more. In regards to the pre-orders It's sold 3x over the MOST pre-ordered item in Amazons music history (as I said before currently was Progress). I'm sure e other music sites are the same with it being #1 on HMV Play etc etc...not just on pre-orders but it's beating all the albums currently on sale etc too judging from their websites. I didn't think it would be Ridiculously HUGE I assumed(wrongly) that it would be largely physical sales but the number of iTunes likes clearly proves that people are downloading it or at least looking at on there. I reckon it could even do 600k either way it's go to go straight in at #1 on iTunes with a huge lead. ;) Edited December 17, 201113 yr by Mr. C. Joel
December 17, 201113 yr The Military Wives With Gareth Malone are on Graham Norton show next Friday :nocheer: oh well... Xmas #1 in the bag :(
December 17, 201113 yr Like it or not, it's going to become a million seller in January, if not by New Year. I guess 700K+ first week
December 22, 201113 yr Technically, everyone got it wildly wrong - since it charted at #144 on leaks last week, its 1st week sales are only around 1.9k. ;) Edited December 22, 201113 yr by vidcapper
December 22, 201113 yr It should sell 550k this week, 150k next week Might now be closer to 600k than 550, though I agree that it's sales should drop precipitously next week.
December 23, 201113 yr Author This song being is tipped for Xmas number one but how well will it sell??? I've voted (first week) 300k - 400k and (overall) 800k - 100k They've already sold more than this in 5 days :o MWC have really surprised everyone with their massive selling power
December 23, 201113 yr I'm not going to say that sales won't drop next week because they obviously will but next week is when people go out and buy things post-Christmas and MWC will be the last thing heard on the Christmas TOTP this year so that's potentially a new audience for the song there personally I won't be watching the TOTP because I've not enjoyed much chart music this year but you'll get the random people who will tune into it and they might not have heard the MWC song which might lead to a CD/download purchase next week. Of course it won't be 550-600k like this week but I wouldn't be surprised at another 250-300k probably
