We shall begin with the top 50 singles. Over 900 songs entered my chart in 2011, and here are my favourite 50!

Two songs were knocked out at the very last moment, so honourable mentions go to the following:

#52

Helene Bøksle - Vardlokk

Vardlokk, a wonderful Nordic Folk ballad, was one of 21 songs in the running to represent Norway in this year's Eurovision Song Contest. It qualified to the final, but failed to make the top 4.

#51

TinkaBelle - The Man I Need

Just missing out on a place in the top 50 is the bluegrass tinged pop tune from Swiss group, TinkaBelle. The Man I Need was my choice of entry for Caerfyrddia in BJSC XXXII where it finished in 14th place.

And so to the top 50, and we begin with...

#50

Caro Emerald - The Other Woman

Date of Entry: 25/09/11

Chart Run: 9-5-7-7-12-11-22-39-OUT

At number 50 is one of my personal highlights from the exceptional debut album by Caro Emerald. The Other Woman is a sultry and sophisticated number which was released as a single in September. Musically, there's something very James Bond like about this track and I think Caro would be the perfect choice to sing the next Bond theme. It would certainly be far better than the past couple have been!

#49

Bodies Of Water - Like A Stranger

Date of Entry: 25/09/11

Chart Run: 22-12-6-8-27-30-25-41-OUT

A BJSC discovery next at #49. I seemed to be the only one who appreciated this entry from Quintessa and even though it's "indie", I really fail to see why it couldn't make the final as it's just so rhythmic! There's a hint of Arcade Fire here, but also similarities can be drawn from the Abba-esque outfit, Music Go Music.

Daruso - When The Morning Comes

Date of Entry: 19/06/11

Chart Run: 5-4-3-4-6-7-12-15-19-28-46-OUT

Dance act Daruso find themselves at #48 with their third single, When The Morning Comes. It's nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary, but as far as dance music goes I prefer the less is more approach. All three of their singles have gone top 5 on my chart and I'm really hopeful that there's an album in the pipeline!

#47

Elisa Tovati & Tom Dice - Il Nous Faut

Date of Entry: 26/06/11

Chart Run: 10-1-5-7-8-24-43-57-OUT

A summer hit from actress and singer Elisa Tovati and Belgium's 2010 Eurovision entrant Tom Dice is at #47. This delightful mid tempo acoustic track was a number one hit on my chart in July, and was also a number one in Belgium as well as a top 10 hit in France.

Bellowhead - New York Girls

Date of Entry: 16/01/11

Chart Run: 12-6-7-17-36-OUT

It was thanks to having Jools Holland's Hootenanny on in the background at a friend's New Year's Eve party that I discovered English folk act, Bellowhead. They gave a fantastic performance of this track from the album Hedonism. It's been a favourite of mine throughout this year, but it's chart run was hampered slightly by the "Eurovision effect".

#45

Medina - For Altid

Date of Entry: 05/06/11

Chart Run: 49-50-41-38-32-2-4-6-8-13-14-16-34-53-OUT

One of Denmark's finest is at #45 with the lead single and title track from her third album. A number one hit in her homeland, it peaked at #2 on my chart. The video for this track is stunning, all we need now is an English translation to break the UK market!

Not my favourite Caro Emerald song, my picks from the album would be the other five singles, although she hasn't put a foot wrong with her single choices has she :o No wonder the album's passed 300k sales! Il Nous Faut is pleasant too although I maintain that I was rather surprised to see it top your chart!
'Vardlokk' is amazing, shame it missed your top fifty. That Bellowhead's song is pretty good! :o Medina

Well, Riviera Life was a little bit of a bizarre choice I thought - I've never been a fan of that track!

Il Nous Faut is not a #1 I regret now as such, but maybe it should have peaked at #2 or #3 really. Only one of my #1s failed to make the top 50 this year, and that was Steps' Dancing Queen.

That Bellowhead song is fantastic. It nearly made my top 50 of 2010. Didn't realise it had a video.

It's a shame I hadn't heard of them before this year as I love both the recent album and the previous one!

I was really quite gutted to have to give Vardlokk and The Man I Need the chop as I adore both tracks! Glad you like the Bellowhead track :D

The Sound Of Arrows - Wonders

Date of Entry: 13/11/11

Chart Run: 12-16-7-14-14-1-2-

A recent #1 hit on my chart appear at #44. Wonders is the third single from The Sound Of Arrows album Voyage. It took a little while to fully grow on me, but now I love this exquisite electropop track! It's one of many highlights from an exceptional album.

#43

Marigold - You And I Know

Date of Entry: 27/11/11

Chart Run: 30-4-6-6-1-

This week's number one and my Christmas number one of 2011 follows at #43. I stumbled across this Swedish three piece on 7digital, and this track has been steadily growing on me over the past month or so. This is the most likely option to become Caerfyrddia's entry in BJSC 41.

Well, Riviera Life was a little bit of a bizarre choice I thought - I've never been a fan of that track!

Oh no, I adore Riviera Life, would be a 9.5/10 for me if I ever got round to rating the album and was an instant standout on the first listen! Sort of sounds like the sort of thing Emma Bunton might have released during 2003/4

Poor Steps, I guess they got to #1 for you on name/legacy more than song? Luckily I deemed all of my #1's this year good enough for a spot in my top 30, Wherever You Are being lowest by virtue of being the most recent but Frida Gold being technically lowest, not that I regret whatsoever that going to the top! So no chart regrets for me in #1 terms (no Nadine - Insatiable situation this year ), my main regrets for 2011 are the vast underpeaking of The Pierces - You'll Be Mine and Noah & The Whale's Waiting For My Chance To Come :drama:

, I had never likened Caro to Emma Bunton before, but I really can see what you mean! I loved so many of Emma's tracks from the Free Me album

I think I just got caught up in the Steps frenzy! I certainly don't regret putting Dancing Queen at #1, but it really would look out of place in my EOY top 50! My EOY chart this year is far more consistent than in previous years where I've sometimes had songs which peaked at #44 appear :heehee: . I have three songs in my top 50 this year that peaked at #6, and 90% of the top 20 are number one hits so I'm really happy with that!

The Saturdays - All Fired Up

Date of Entry: 11/09/11

Chart Run: 5-3-3-3-5-6-15-17-15-16-25-38-45-OUT

At #42 is The Saturdays' second single from On Your Radar, the anthemic All Fired Up. This is a pop tune of epic proportions and is comfortably one of the girl group's best singles. It is a shame their recent album flopped so terribly, as it's my favourite LP of theirs to date. Oh well, bring on the inevitable and probably imminent Greatest Hits!

#41

Patrick Wolf - Together

Date of Entry: 30/10/11

Chart Run: 13-12-27-44-2 Weeks Out-1-3-9-

A stunning masterpiece from one of the most underrated musicians of modern times. Together was the fourth single from Patrick's Lupercalia album, and was the lead track from the recent Brumalia EP. For me, it's one of the finest examples of synthpop of this century so far.

, I had never likened Caro to Emma Bunton before, but I really can see what you mean! I loved so many of Emma's tracks from the Free Me album

Her single Crickets Sing For Anamaria (or whatever it was called ) could basically be on Caro's album! Free Me, Maybe and I'll Be There were all very strong, great timeless production.

My entire top 17 topped my singles chart, although that does give the game away that my remaining two #2 peakers are coming up very very soon  Looks like we both definitely made the right decisions this year for the most part!

I really liked Crickets Sing and agree it would make an excellent Caro track! Maybe was always my favourite track on the album though

For the most part, it seems so! :D

Rachel Platten - 1000 Ships

Date of Entry: 27/11/11

Chart Run: 26-1-3-4-4-

Opening the top 50 is the most recent BJSC winner by Rachel Platten. This is such a delightful pop tune with an insanely catchy chorus, one can't help but smile while listening to it!

#39

Sanna Nielsen - I'm In Love

Date of Entry: 13/02/11

Chart Run: 12-8-4-7-5-5-5-7-12-15-24-31-OUT

One of many highlights from this year's Melodifestivalen is at #39. I'm In Love marked Sanna's sixth appearance in the Swedish song contest and saw her reach the final, eventually finishing in 4th place. A superb and very Swedish sounding song, but I'm not sure about the revolving upturned head massager!

Eric Saade - Popular

Date of Entry: 20/02/11

Chart Run: 16-12-5-3-3-3-5-7-6-9-10-9-13-24-29-25-25-28-29-30-35-41-OUT

From one MF entry to another, and the eventual winner, Eric Saade. Popular was the Swedish entry into Eurovision where it finished in 3rd place, giving Sweden their best result since their previous victory in 1999.

#37

Elin Lanto - Funeral

Date of Entry: 24/07/11

Chart Run: 2-3-2-4-5-9-18-34-OUT

I'm not sure this song ever got an official release, but remixes of it surfaced back in the summer and they were a good enough excuse for charting this dazzling pop tune. This was the highlight of a very strong album from Elin despite some frankly bizarre lyrics.

I Am A Camera - Endless Storm

Date of Entry: 14/08/11

Chart Run: 2-1-2-1-2-5-15-22-22-38-OUT

Endless Storm was my choice of entry for BJSC XXXVII and it's the current record holder for Caerfyrddia's best placed entry after it finished in 7th place. It's a mysterious electropop track with a marvellous video which features clips from the French language film, Orphée.

#35

Within Temptation - Sinéad

Date of Entry: 31/07/11

Chart Run: 4-7-8-6-11-22-32-38-48-OUT

The second single from Within Temptation's fifth studio album, The Unforgiving, is at #35. Sinéad is a driving metal track which some say has almost a disco edge to it! I can't see it myself, but it's certainly one of the groups best singles to date!

Great to see Sanna and Eric there, as well as Endless Storm which was a great entry! Funeral was in my top 50 of 2010, amazing pop song :D And 1000 Ships is excellent also, incredibly instant love for me!

Sinead is WT's best for me, I'm one who can hear the disco edge!

Much love for Funeral too, possibly my fave Scandipop track of 2010 (behind White Light Moment)!

Funeral would have been in my EOY chart last year too if I'd have allowed album tracks in. It did feature in my Best album tracks/b-sides of the last decade though!

That Within Temptation song is rather cool. Must remember to download it.

It is a really good track! The whole album is pretty decent actually!

Stand My Ground is my favourite WT track, but Sinead is definitely in the top 10!

Funeral has a slight edge over White Light Moment for me, I think I overplayed the latter a little too much in the end!
