Has anybody else read all three books? I've just finished the last one and they are all absolutely FANTASTIC. I just hope the movie doesn't disappoint and from the looks of the trailer, it won't! :D

I've got two copies of the first book (my local cinema was giving them out when I went to get tickets for Breaking Dawn, good promo technique) but not got round to reading it. Really looking forward to the movie though as I've read lots of good things about the books and the trailer looks great (plus Taylor Swift being on the soundtrack is a bonus given how much I love her).

I don't want to put people off by saying this but I think it could be the next Twilight (big, but not quite on a Harry Potter level).

Was about to start this topic myself.

This will be huge. Not Twilight huge and definitely not HP huge, but huge nonetheless.

My mum is hooked (even though she didn't even read any of the books), which automatically should make it UNCOOL but I kinda LOVE it.

Started to read the book.

HOOKED. OMG.

the book series is brilliant and I cannot WAIT for this  trailer looks really good too, looks like it won't stray too far from the books

The books are VERY hooking. I literally finished each one in a day, I couldn't stop reading them! And I do think this will be a big hit, like already said it won't be as big as Harry Potter, but I actually think it could be bigger than Twilight!
I don't think any book has ever got me THAT excited since Harry Potter. Should finish the first book this year.
I cried like a bitch at the scene

where Rue dies

.

So I finished the first book and it was breathtaking. I'm now RIDICULOUSLY excited about the movie and pretty much have NO idea what could happen in the next books!
I started reading the first book a few days ago and I have already finished. It really is amazing, truly breathtaking, I can't wait for the movie. I hope it doesn't disappoint!

On the second book now.

And I saw the trailer again today in the cinema. Almost pissed myself with excitement. I will be the first one in line to buy tickets for the very premiere. It's RIDICULOUS how I am excited. Even more than for EUROVISION! :o

Just accidentally saw a MAJOR spoiler from the final book, which I started btw. :( Plus it's SO SAD that *super spoiler alert*

Katniss chose Peeta. GALE IS SO MUCH BETTER!

.

It's INSANE how INSANE I am about this movie release. I hope those cinema bitches don't dare delay the Russian premiere! I'mma be the first in the queue for tickets.

First song off the OST surfaced 3 weeks ago. Arcade Fire and The Decemberists are confirmed to also appear on the album, which is INCREDIBLE.

I prefer Peeta tbh, and I was very pleased Katniss chose him over Gale.

The bad thing about the two though is that there will most likely now be a

Team Peeta vs. Team Gale

thing. :(

Finally finished reading the whole series. And started all over again :D

BETTER than Harry Potter. It's THAT incredible.

I'm now re-reading the first book, in anticipation of the movie.

I bought the 3 books today, Asda had 2 for £7 on loads of books (or £4.90 each) so I took the plunge :D Might go and see the film, because I've read a little bit of the first book and I'm HOOKED.

Even I agree with that, the books are phenomenal, tbh!

AS LONG AS THEY AREN'T POINTLESS LIKE TWILIGHT. You could wrap up that entire franchise in ten minutes.

BETTER than Harry Potter. It's THAT incredible.

BLASPHEMY.

I am about 100 odd pages into Mockingjay, and Suzanne Collins is an incredibly uneven writer, I can't count how many times I've cringed at some of her clunkers. I seriously remember Twilight being better written, I could at least understand Bella's thought process, whereas Katniss can come off as though she's suffering from Aspergers at times. Not to mention the names are AWFUL, I mean Katniss?! Not to mention her pet-nickname Catnip :manson:

It isn't all bad, the plot is decent and goes to some pretty grim and visceral places at times for a young adult novel, but the story has been told much better before in Battle Royale and Stephen King's The Long Walk; it's just those stories mixed with an added love triangle and plenty of teen angst. The build up to the rebellion in Catching Fire has been the best thing about it so far.

THG lends well to a movie adaption though, and just from the trailer I think it could well be an improvement on the novel. Garry Ross also did Pleasantville and Seabiscuit which were great films and James Newton Howard is doing the score; I'm especially excited for Jennifer Lawrence because if Winter's Bone is anything to go by, she will absolutely nail the part and of course Josh Hutcherson as Peeta is a plus  Oh, and Elizabeth Banks is already clearly brilliant as Effie. Woody Harrelson is another bit of spot-on casting and if anyone can elevate Haymitch from caricature to something cult worthy, it's him.

But I really am AGOG at the looning over this Pavel. If you really want your mind blown and to see how a decent young female protagonist is written, do yourself a favour and read the His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman. Now if there is any modern young adult series that rivals Harry Potter that is it; I am still bitter to this day over that crappy film adaption. The Gone series is another really great one that deserves more attention, and is similar to Lord of the Flies in the same way THG is to Battle Royale, but with a much better twist on a familiar story.

I think one review said it best, when comparing the novel to an arcade shooter game; it's addictive and fun while you're reading it, but otherwise completely insubstantial.
