January 1, 201213 yr Sublime EOY #1 album, same as mine, and 6-9 are great too, so glad you belatedly got into Caro Emerald, I was raving over her/the album two years ago for a very good reason  Mildly surprised to see Born This Way not in your top ten albums of the year and only The Edge Of Glory in your top 20 singles :o Fantastic top 20 singles though, expected #1 but something nearing a career high for them. The entire top 20 are wall to wall brilliance actually, the majority were in my EOY top 100 too!

To be honest, I have been very disappointed by Gaga this year - except the amazing Edge of Glory. This is the first time a Coldplay album hasn't been my EOY #1 when released - that is the power of Adele.

This is the first time a Coldplay album hasn't been my EOY #1 when released - that is the power of Adele. 21 was easily the best album released this year. As you know, I was never a fan of Coldplay in the past but I'm enjoying their new slight electropop edge, Every Teardrop is gorgeous and Paradise is an anthem, I love about half of the album too! I know what you mean about Gaga, I LOVE the album as a whole, as a sum of its parts, but the singles chosen from it, and the order that they were released have been questionable to say the least. The Edge Of Glory was her only appearance in my top 50 of the year :o

Here's hoping for a good 3rd album.

Here's hoping for a good 3rd album. The Fame Monster was incredible and although Born This Way sort of took things up a notch production and ideas wise, and that I personally love it, to the general public I think the Gaga sheen has started to wear off a bit, it's all a bit 'been there done that' now, which is no fault of her own, just that you can't top perfection (which Bad Romance essentially was). Perhaps it's just a commercial blip like Rihanna's Rated R (even if I did love that album) but she needs to forget about the dramatics, 15 minute long videos that I can never be arsed to sit through more than once, and focus entirely and solely on the music. And also fire her A&R and draft in some people that aren't 'yes men'. I speak only for myself as I know most other people loved it but I don't think that Born This Way should have led the era, a Madonna tribute sounding song is hardly the best of starts for somebody trying to distance herself from those comparisons. The Edge Of Glory would have brought her back with a credible bang (and probably a #1 single in the UK), Scheiße should have been second, then Born This Way and Marry The Night third or fourth, in either order - THAT would have been a strong era and sold the album a lot better. Judas and You & I were great album tracks but useless singles. She's trying to be too many different things to too many different people and whilst it was original and fresh in 2009, it's not anymore and the public seem to be getting bored of the dramatics. The more she tries to appeal to both the mainstream and Pitchfork at the same time, the more she'll drive one or the other away.

I totally agree - this is just about the discussion Tom and I had about this :o
