Howdy folks. Welcome to the eighth edition of Unknown Pleasures on this here board known as Buzzjack. For those that have played before, get yourself in gear and get sending me those tracks. If you’re new to this then please do join in with the fun and games, all you have to do is find a track that you think will be a discovery for many of Buzzjack’s residents and then send me the name of your choice of entry together with an MP3 of the track (HQ preferably as the better quality tracks tend to perform better) and also a link to the track on either YouTube, Soundcloud or another provider of your choice. If you still have any questions then you are welcome to PM me or ask for advice in the thread. As with any competition, there are the rules to keep us all suitable in check and here they are:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v369/DandyHighwayman/TheRules.jpg

01 There is no rule with regard to genre or length.
02 The artist or band of your choice must not have reached the top 40 singles chart in the UK.
03 The artist or band of your choice must not have reached the top 20 albums chart in the UK.

04 The song must not be on the current UK release schedule.
05 To enter the competition you must send an MP3 by PM and also include a link to the song on (preferably) YouTube, Vimeo, or Soundcloud.
06 The MP3 must be either 256 or 320kbps please, 128, 64, 32, 16 or 8kbps would do shockingly poorly so there’s really no need to bother with them.
07 You must not choose a song that has been previously entered (full list below).

08 Songs from the same artist will not be allowed to participate in the contest simultaneously. Also, songs by acts who featured in the last contest will not be accepted. If two people choose the same act, the one who submitted their entry first will be allowed to enter the act.
09 You must not reveal or even hint at which song you have sent. Part of the fun is not knowing who sent what so please do stick to this one.

10 I reserve the right to refuse an entry if I feel it does not fit within the spirit of the competition.

If your entry does fall outside of the rules for any reason, I will get back to you with enough time to allow you to change it before the deadline. Talking of deadlines, I’m planning on beginning the voting thread at this time next week so entries to me no later than midday on Sunday 22nd January please.

I will be taking part this time!

Oh, you San Marinos of Unknown Pleasures...

Oh, you San Marinos of Unknown Pleasures...

I'm in a more indie 'mood' recently so figure that I'll be more open to it this time around. Hope I can come higher than bottom five this time around but then Night Animal DID at least manage to finish in the 'Best of 2011' countdown that Tony did so that was quite a consolation! I wasn't quite so useless when it was on CHC anyway, managing to win the final one :P

I will be entering most definitely, all looks very pretty!

I think the existence of BJSC here means that the tracks are more distinctly split between the contests, the sound of Unknown Pleasures here is definitely more leftfield than it used to be back on ChC and the participants tend to be more that way inclined too. It depends who enters though, if you, Ghosthunter, Tom Kay and Hits enter then you may have a pop block akin to the indie block in BJSC! :D

Oh and thank you to all entrants so far.

It might constitute a pop bloc of sorts here, but myself, Ghosty, Tom Kay and Hits are some of the LEAST poppy voters in BJSC, which highlights how big the divide is I agree.

Sent. It's an artist that I can think only a few people on here will be aware off (although I may be grossly underestimating.)

As I've had a couple of people ask if it's okay, a link to bandcamp / soundcloud where I can download the song from is absolutely fine instead of a file sharing site.

I've submitted my entry into Unknown Pleasures VIII.

As for this whole "pop block" that's been mentioned, maybe from an Unknown Pleasures perspective my votes will tend to look more pop orientated compared to others. It's almost the opposite way round in BJSC as my votes tend to favour the more unique indie/pop entries rather than the typical run-of-the-mill pure pop entries.

I had intended on joining in last time but forgot, I'll definitely make the effort this time!
