I don't like it. I don't think it sounds very him. But I will be very interested to hear his take on 'Tightrope' and some original material.

What an incredibly dull and lifeless interpretation of the song. Flat instrumental. Boring vocals. Bleh.

I have to say it's exactly what I expected from him, on the show he was dull and uninteresting and that's exactly how I would describe that cover.
Its a good version but im still worried for him
I expect we'll get another dull and dreary collection of cover songs with one or two new songs if you are lucky. Surely, its a bit too much effort for Cowell and Co to give him access to decent song writers and producers for a change!
AHAHAAHAAA! If this is what Gary Barlow career guidance is like, he's better off without it! What the hell is that? Taking an indie song (already annoying certain people there) and destroying the most catchy part of it, which is the riff. It's boring and actually pretty annoying by the time Marcus has trotted out his "Uhs" and his other bad habits. And it's actually a cover of a cover which is plumbing new depths really. He's a nice guy I wish the best to but WOW. I thought Joe McElderry was badly handled, looks like we ain't see nuthin yet.

OMG, it's actually a PARODY how much of a copy Marcus's version is of the version RFC posted further up!

:D! When I said 'carbon copy' I wasn't quite expecting it to be that much. It's not that bad an interpretation of the song really, but the fact it's a version of someone else's interpretation just makes it DIRE!

so this is just a total copy of pretty good version of a classic rock song...I just fail to see the point of all this?! if this is what his album is gonna be like, then I can't say I'm at all interested

Apparently, he is signed to RCA, well that is what the Liverpool Echo are claiming in their recent interview with him. Having listened to the audio, I cant say I am impressed.

If I've read correctly, it seems like Marcus has actually written a lot of the album (with Barlow). He says it "may seem quick to some people" but he's been in lockdown in the studio since January 1st.

Lockdown since January 1st with Gary Barlow? oh well in that case it's going to be a massive hit album. <_<

Completely lifeless. Didn't actually get all the way through it. I quite liked him on X Factor but this is dreadful.
He is ACTUALLY singing over a Youtube karaoke instrumental of Ben L'Oncle Soul's version. I loved him in X Factor but if this is the way his career is going to go then I don't have MASSIVELY high hopes shall we say :(
Im sure he will still go top 10 and get a number 1 album during Mothers Day which hopefully will encourage him to try something original.

I was going to say, the instruments sound so cheap and nasty... like they've got a casio keyboard on trumpet setting.

This is how you do a 7 nation army cover:

I actually don't mind it, I have to say it's a hell of a lot better than I ever expected!

He was dull as dishwater on the show and I don't think ruining a cover of a brilliant rock track will do him any favours. Coupled with the fact Gary Barlow is on board! (Did they learn nothing from Cardlegate?)

I do wonder with SyCo sometimes. They can get it so right (Olly Murs for instance) and then so terribly bad ('Elephant' and this...).

Seven Nation Army is a travesty - end of. And the post below saying SyCo got it right with Olly Murs... really? OK, he sells records - but the actual material is absolute junk - his last single sounds like a song Shakin Stevens would've turned down in 1981 - ATROCIOUS.

OH MY f***ING GOD! THAT IS COMPLETE AND UTTER SHIT!

A rival for the worst cover version ever, right up there with Hurt.

Cardlegate? A top 10 single is hardly a travesty! No one forced him to take that song either, it was Matt's decision to include it on the album and Matt's decision to release it as a single.

Elephant may not be to everyones tastes but it will go number 1 im sure
