Cardlegate? A top 10 single is hardly a travesty!

Seven Nation Army is a travesty - end of. And the post below saying SyCo got it right with Olly Murs... really? OK, he sells records - but the actual material is absolute junk - his last single sounds like a song Shakin Stevens would've turned down in 1981 - ATROCIOUS.

An opinion is an opinion and I take that on board, however, I strongly disagree about Olly's material been junk, in my opinion it is catchy, different to what others are offering and it is nothing like Shakin Stevans would or would have recorded.

However, i do agree that Marcus' version of seven nation army is nothing short of "AWFUL"

Oh come on, it is hardly "AWFUL". It's actually a really good cover. It isn't anything spectacular but it doesn't need to be. It's an easy-listening track.

Buzzjack isn't really a place to be a music snob now, is it?

It is awful, because it's a carbon copy of a cover version which they'll be passing off as their own original interpretation of the song. It sounds cheap and rushed, and the vocals are no where near what he was capable of on the show. It's aimed to please nothing but the Mother's Day market it's being released to and then he'll soon be forgotten, like every other act X-Factor have first marketed for Mother's Day.
It will do well in the charts though I hope. I heard it played on Radio 1 and Capital today so at least it is getting good airplay

More people were waiting for his album rather than his singles and by all extensive purposes the majority of artists would want their album to chart higher and sell better. Cardle has done good, a top 10 single and a number 2 album that has shipped platinum without having consistent promo other than the XF performance. In fairness he has shipped platinum on the strength of the first single and his popularity as Starlight hasnt had an affect on the sales and neither will Amazing. Im sure he, Columbia and Syco are happy with his sales and are looking at a change in direction for album 2

When a cover is this poor then everyone should be a music snob.

Too many apologists for piss-poor music.

As someone who loved Marcus on The X Factor, I am so disappointed with this, and I highly doubt I will be buying his album now either.

Great news that Marcus is playlisted by Capital. :o Heart is also playing his song. I doubt Radio 1 will playlist it though.

I'm neither a fan nor a critic of Matt but surely they can't be happy with his sales if they are looking at a change in direction for the next album...

What I mean to say is that Matt Cardle is just one of many artists on their books and so the label will be happy with a top 10 single and a number 2 platinum album.

With regard to changing direction for the next album, I dont think that means that they arent happy with things. Changing musical direction, experimenting here and there etc is a good thing on the whole. If you dont then you become boring like Westlife and then less people are interested in what you have to offer. Im sure Matt will aim for more radio friendly songs next time that will hang around in the charts for a touch longer than a week here or there.

Are there any other new releases when this goes on sale? Cos i have a feeling that it will go up to 2 or 3 on itunes after release and then fall out of the top 10 of itunes by the end of the week

FROM JLS to Olly Murs, it’s often the runners-up who eventually shine brightest from The X Factor – and now we can add Mr Collins to that list.

Any doubts about whether the shy Scouser had a personality as big as his soulful voice are well and truly answered on a cracking, varied debut album.

There are none of the usual soft ballads among the 11 tunes. Instead, Marcus, 23, is like a British Cee Lo Green with his dazzling falsetto vocals tackling funk, grime, soul and pure pop.

He even proves a mean rapper on a cred cover of R&B star Janelle Monae’s cool Tightrope. Perhaps the biggest compliment is that X Factor mentor Gary Barlow’s slick new tune Feel Like I Feel – more urban than Take That – is just

one of about eight potential singles.

From the insanely catchy brass of Mercy to Break These Chains’ dazzling disco, Marcus deserves top marks.

Expect his cheeky grin and bow-tie to be battling it out with Olly, 27, at next year’s BRITs.

Follow that Little Mix.

That would sound promising if he wasn't compared the VILE Cee-Lo Green :puke:

No seriously, I am much assured after that!

Cee Lo Green with a more ear-friendly vocal. :P

Don't you like 'Bright Lights'?

I should hope so, it can't be any worse :P

Nope, the ony song he's featured on I've actually liked is a song by Selah Sue (a Belgian singer) called Please Please, and Forget You is good when someone else sings it :P

Haha fair enough. :P

I'm hoping it is a mix of Stevie Wonder and Beyonce - they are his two main inspirations so there should be no doubt there.

I really pray that SNA goes top 5. It is such a great cover and Capital and Heart are on board - along with Radio 2 I believe.

I've heard this a few times, but this really is just piss poor, and not growing. I don't really rule a song out just because it's a cover, but this just seems lazy from somebody who really did have so much potential.

Had Syco not been handling him, he'd have been worked on as a more 'Runaway Baby' type of Bruno Mars, and he would've done really well, but this is just weak, lazy, and vocally Marcus sounded so much better on the show.

I heard the Gary Barlow penned song Feel Like I Feel earlier on the radio as an exclusive preview and I must say it is an excellent song. I would be very suprised if this isnt the next single released. All of a sudden I am quite looking forward to hearing the album.

Preview of the B-Side to the single:
