January 23, 201213 yr Although I have suggested it before, but a better Idea, but maybe still not the right idea, is making the whole chart react to the Download age. This would be more 21st century than Playing Videos. Start at 4pm with the chart as it is at lunchtime sunday, but let the last physicals & Downloads count until 6:30pm, Count down the chart but let the chart compilation Lock at 6:30pm. Then by 6:45 confirm the #1, and a Full countdown of the revised chart, that would leave some time to play some of the last minute entries that had not been played earlier. In the age of powerful computers, a instant chart compile is doable if the right program is written. If it was like this I believe that Coverdrive will be #1 this week. It always seems that the BBC are always trailing behind the other Charts, They were 3 years behind the sunday reveal chart in 1987, although the Big top 40 doesn't do it properly either, on their website they had "Coverdrive" in at #3, with a chart updated to 3:35pm but their Top 10 round up from 4-430pm had the "Coverdrive" song no where in sight, by the update at 5pm it appeared, and by 6:50pm it had gone to #2. but it seems sometimes that they are trying to make the official chart instantly out of date by revealing quite often the #1, 1 week before the official chart reveals it as #1. If the whole official Chart was reactive and Coverdrive was #1, this would make the Big Top 40 chart out of date, when they have this song at #2.
January 23, 201213 yr But won't it eat into the time he takes to do his research for the show? That is assuming he takes any research in the first place!!

That sounds horribly complicated, I don't see how announcing the #1 less than 19 hours after the sales period closes is anything that needs to be remedied anyway.
January 23, 201213 yr This just sounds like fiddling with things that didn't need fiddling with, yet avoiding the main problem with the show - the presenter.

If the cut off was 6.30pm on a Sunday you would just have Sunday releases entering the top 40 lower down. And on the Big Top 40, the 4pm chart is iTunes sales for the full week, and the 5pm chart is the current iTunes chart. It's just a con to make it look like their listeners have had an immediate affect on the chart but it's all bollocks.
January 23, 201213 yr That is assuming he takes any research in the first place!! That's the joke, well done :P
January 24, 201213 yr that idea sounds hideously similar to the big top 40, which simply reinforces my view that the charts are fine the way they are and should not by any means be taken into real time
