Crazy In Love definitely had the most impact on mainstream urban music. It really brought brass instruments back into fashion. Even many years later, I always wonder if hip hop songs like 4 Minutes, Live Your Life, Crack a Bottle, etc. would've even been made if Crazy In Love hadn't been such a big hit. And also, it was earlier in her career, a bigger hit than Single Ladies, and is kind of cute because it's her and Jay-Z.

Single Ladies, however, certainly wins on the cultural impact front. So yeah, you could argue that.

Dirrty was certainly Christina's most iconic music video! I think it flopped in the US though.

Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody is an incredibly obvious one :P

Would The Beatles' be Hey Jude? Just basing that off it being their most popular song when they were all released on iTunes (Let It Be charted higher the next week but only because of X Factor). Several of their most popular songs were ones that never charted/got released in the UK though oddly enough.

Radiohead - Creep is another pretty obvious one.

What about Coldplay? Could be any of Yellow, Fix You, Viva La Vida, The Scientist or Clocks. Paradise could creep its way up there in time as well.

Radiohead is a hard one, it's only their signature song because it's by far and a long way the most mainstream song they've ever released. If they could go back they would never have made it. Amongst people who actually like the band, it's nowhere near, I'd say 'Karma Police' or 'No Surprises' could be up there too.

'Hey Jude' is probably about right for The Beatles. Coldplay is definitely tough, but probably 'Fix You' if you had to pick their one defining song, ahead of 'Yellow'.

I still think even thought Only Girl is more recent then Umbrella, Only Girl is her signature song. Maybe even now We Found Love.

I'd say Flo Rida's was Good Feeling.

Another one is what people think artists most under-rated songs are, there are so many great songs for artists that they may never have released or weren't huge hits..

^ I was going to include Coldplay on my list, but then I realized I couldn't decide, so I thought I better not. To me, I would think Clocks. I don't think I've ever even heard Yellow before (although I also thought I'd never heard Fix You before, but I accidentally listened to it on Youtube (I was listening to E.T. on a playlist and I wasn't paying attention when it finished so it moved to the next song which was Fix You ) and it turned out I've heard it loads of times).

Also:

Nelly Furtado - I'm Like a Bird (or Promiscuous maybe)

Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry or Fergalicious

Gwen Stefani - Hollaback Girl (or Let Me Blow Your Mind or What You Waiting For?)

Avril Lavigne - Complicated or Girlfriend

Maroon 5 - This Love or Makes Me Wonder

It's interesting going on the likes of Last.fm and Compare My Radio for things like this. Neither are wholly accurate but they give a good reflection on what radio still play and what people listen to most. The top 3 pre-MX Coldplay songs on radio are Viva La Vida, Clocks and Yellow in that order. It's the same on Last.fm

Surprised to see Clocks ahead of Fix You and Yellow!

On radio Fix You is the least played of the three X&Y singles, even marginally less than both Speed of Sound and Talk!

I think the public have spoken with regards to which of those 3 is the most worthy of 'classic status' though :P

When, if ever, was the last time we got a sales total for Fix You? I'd imagine it's up there with their highest sellers by now as it's a very strong trickle seller (currently #134 on my feed!) and re-entered the top 100 several times last year for various reasons.

-x-

Pixie is showing up as #10 on Kworb now, ergh. Knocking out SHM as well :( Hope SHM can cling onto #6 officially tomorrow. And Alyssa to knock out her rather than Labrinth tomorrow please. (Or not go top 10 at all, even better :P But that won't happen).

Twilight  #3 - just as soon as i am starting to really get into it! It should hopefully still be number 1 this week, and Titanium should get it next week (hopefully!)

Pixie #10 - if anyone is confused about this song climbing, it was used on CBB last night.

Gym Class Heroes feat. Neon Hitch - Ass Back Home has been released in Ireland now, so they might pull the UK release forward to tonight as well? Should be a decent sized hit I'd imagine as there have been fake versions hanging around for a while (although not doing anywhere near as well as in Ireland where two different fakes have gone top 10 - one is there at the moment with the real version in the 30s so I assume it's only just been released and will shoot right up very soon).
I don't think David Guetta has a signature song yet really, he just seems to have so many hits but not one that sticks out in particular, I guess with some artists its hard to define a 'signature song' whereas with others its really obvious

Just a little more love was his first uk top 40 single in 2003 but imo When Love Takes Over IS his signature song because it was a big return that everyone knew would smash at no1 in 2008, everything followed because of this imo!

Yeah of course 'Billie Jean' is MJ's signature hit. But 'Thriller' is still another. Regardless of whether the video alone makes it one of his signature hits, it is still one. :P

'Dirrty' is definitely Christina Aguilera's signature hit. 'Candyman' isn't really,

Also for signature songs:

Leona Lewis/ Bleeding Love or Run

Kanye West/ Gold Digger

Taio Cruz/ Break Your Heart

Tinie Tempah/ Pass Out

Ne-Yo/ Closer

Usher/ Yeah!

For Kanye "Stronger" is a good shout, that and "Gold Digger" are definitely his biggest as a lead artist. "Runaway" may become a classic on years to come as well.

Taio's, as people mentioned, is surely "Dynamite". It's far more culturally significant.

Jay-z - Empire State of Mind?

I don't think so, because people associate that song more with Alicia Keys than Jay-Z now (and I don't think it would be Alicia's signature song either, probably Fallin' or No One?).

It's really difficult to tell with Jay-Z, since there's so many to choose from, but it'd probably be one out of Hard Knock Life, Talk That Talk, Big Pimpin', Numb/Encore or 99 Problems. Or even something like Bonnie & Clyde or Niggas in Paris.

99 Problems for Jay-Z, surely. "Dirt Off Your Shoulder" and "Empire State of Mind" probably next.
