MDNA's drop is so disapointing but after the performance of give me all your lovin i expected it in some way. I dont see any hits coming from this album and it will struggle to manage platnum sales in the UK. That said, a deluxe re-release could work if a strong single was released to go with it and it could turn the fortunes of the album around.

Sadly because of how fast the album is dropping I think it has to be considered a flop. its certainly a flop by Madonna's own standards. Most albums have peak sales in their first month. MDNA is already dropping off.

This is terrible. Maybe it will make them rethink the entire campaign for the next album. I don't even think they should try to save MDNA now. Just focus on the tour and then plan album 13. Try to get that out as soon as possible.

The Game Ain't Over

From the article by Naughty But Nice Rob on HuffPost Celebrity:

Madonna's "MDNA" sales may have plummeted in the new record's second week of release, but the singer's friends say it would be foolish to count the material girl out just yet.

"Can't deny that there [was] a drop on the second week of sales, and a significant one, but I would not say the CD tanked," Madonna's longtime publicist, Liz Rosenberg, tells me, responding to reports that "MDNA" has crashed and burned. "It still has had the highest debut of 2012 and was number one in many countries. And the game ain't over."

"MDNA" sold a massive 359,000 copies when it debuted at number one, before sales fell 88 percent to a mere 46,000 copies in its second week.

"This is Madonna's 12th album in a 30-year career," a friend of Madonna's tells me. "She just beat Elvis' record for number ones in the UK. That's a career that anyone in the music business would kill to have. Plus, she did no traditional TV appearances to promote it. Just wait until her sold-out tour starts and more singles are released. That's when Madonna will start pushing the CD hard."

Liz is very good at her job isn't she!

MDNA digital download promotion on Amazon.com

Amazon.com has a special offer this week for the digital version of the explicit version of MDNA.

Official MP3 of the Album can be yours for just $5.

No they won't. Madonna is certainly not going to rush to the studio after she finishes her 8 months long tour. In 2 or so years when the new album can come out, album sales will be even lower and less relevant and she will once again focus on the tour. It's funny how all the stress about Madonna flopping is in fact about Madonna earning slightly less $$$ than she actually is. Why can't it be accepted at the age of 54 and after 30 years in the biz she's no longer "chart queen" and enjoy that she's still going on and give new songs and live performances for the fans? Those tweeters harassing Guy Oseary about promo is simply scary, I'd love to know what he really thinks of that.

MDNA's promo is really Odd and Bizarre, not only has there been lack of live performances but also how it's been sent out to retailers. My local superstore 'Morrisions' registers MDNA as a new entry at No. 2 after being out for 2 weeks, this is absoluety absurd and weird. Sorry double negative but I expect the best from Madonna. I think its been an absolute mess in the UK. This just adds to the lack of awareness that Madonna's back. I thought Warners were less than effective, I think Madonna's camp should give her marketing crew a huge kick up the ass! With so many positive reviews about MDNA, some say it's her best Album since 'ROL', it just seems like a missed opportunity.

Back to the Album Gang Bang, Falling Free, Masterpiece, I don't give a, turn up the radio and I'm Addicted are great. In fact I'm Addicted is one of the best really reminds me of retro electronic 80's.

Promo wise there's nothing like a Tour for promo, I just expected a lot more cause Madonna always brings it when she releases an album.

The countries were MDNA is already Platinum - according to Guy Oseary himself - are: Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Italy, Poland, and Brazil, Double platinum in Colombia, Greece and Russia..

MDNA is also Gold in Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, Venezuela, Romania, Portugal, and Austria and Silver in the UK.

In both Italy and Greece MDNA is down to number #2 after entering the chart at #1 last week. In Poland the new album goes down from #1 to #5.

In Finland the new album goes actually up one place in its third week in the chart. After entering in the top place and falling at #3 last week, MDNA is up to #2.

In Hungary, after being #1 for 2 weeks, MDNA goes down to #4 but it's still in the Top 5.

In Argentina the Deluxe Version of MDNA is down from #1 to #4 this week, and the standard edition is at #6 from #5. If both versions were combined, MDNA would have the #1 album in Argentina for 2 weeks, a similar scenario to what has happened in South Korea.

In France, MDNA steps down from #2 to #6 in its second week in the Top Ten.

In Canada MDNA drops from #1 to #6.

In the latest update by Mediatraffic MDNA goes down to #3 from last week's #1 with estimates of 182,000 units.

Combined with last week's estimates, MDNA jumps over Bruce Springsteen in the best sellers globally for albums released in 2012 and its currently ranking at #2 with 922,000 copies.

I can't see the album recovering even if she starts to promote it. At the moment, she hasnt had a strong enough single from it and the ones they are releasing I dont think will do much in the charts.

From MW:

Madonna's MDNA is also fading fast, falling 7-13 (7,194 sales) a fortnight after debuting at number one. It is the first Madonna studio album not to be in the Top 10 on its third week on the chart since 1984, when her second album, Like A Virgin, edged up 66-63 - it was a slow starter, debuting at number 74, arriving in the Top 10 for the first time 16 weeks later, and topping the chart on its 44th week. Madonna's longest opening run in the Top 10 came when follow-up True Blue reeled off 32 straight weeks in the top tier, including six at number one, before suddenly lurching 8-22.

Madonna is the 4th best ever singles selling act of all time selling 17,582,206.
