My 100 favourite musical creations of 2011!

I have been aware for some time that people have an EOY chart, but I haven’t had my own weekly personal charts long enough to be able to actually make one. The year of 2011 is the first year where I’ve had a complete set of personal charts from the very beginning in January. In addition to my weekly chart, I also have an alphabetical archive list of every artist and song ever charting for me, and these 100 tracks and their artistic creators are based on chart points accumulated throughout the year. I have 20 songs charting each week, with number 20 gaining 1 point all the way up to number 1 gaining all 20 points!

In 2011 I’ve been paying much more attention to the world of music than ever before, through other people’s personal charts, BJSC, ESC, MGP, 10 main music blogs and 70 other music blogs I'm checking up on from time to time. In addition I'm currently subscribing to around 90 different music channels via my youtube channel. I tend to search in several ways on youtube other than that, though, and sometimes I look at international charts around the world. I’m also participating in 3 other different online music contests! So I do strive to have 100% discovery possibilities as I really don't want to miss out on anything listening worthy

In 2010 I started compiling my personal charts in April, and to give you something interesting to look at before I post the official EOY chart of 2011, this is my top 22 favourite songs of 2010! There were 406 different songs charting in my personal charts that entire year, and to give you some perspective there were 455 songs charting for me in 2011. There are also big differences in both years when it comes to how many Chart Points, or Year points the top songs accumulated. Take a look!

-------------

I know to some of you who usually chart your favourite songs for more than 10 weeks etc, this might not seem impressive to you, but it most certainly is to me! My chart is generally unpredictable and continuously changing, but I have a LOT of music I feel like listening to, and even if a top 10 song drops out after two or even one week it doesn't mean I don't like it anymore or that I've grown tired of it, I'm just happy that it made the top 10 in the first place as I enjoyed it enough for it to chart there that week. And BECAUSE there's so much I'd very much like to listen to, I find it right to purely dedicate my listening time in one week to 20 songs. It's the same thing with a number one song; I've REALLY enjoyed that song, and dedicated a lot of time listening to it for a whole week, so that genuinely means something to me! It's just almost too many songs in addition that I want to listen to so naturally there will be many changes/some unpredictable changes every know and then.

This may be a bit late in presenting, but I don't think it matters as long as I do it early in the year. Also, it is a big project after all! :D It will be here for a very long time, and I hope someone finds an interest in reading, though! Especially since many probably won't be familiar with a lot of the songs I chart, there could be potential discoveries to obtain here ^_^ I will begin the top 100 list of 2011 when I've found the time to write something about each track and then I am going to reveal 10 songs all the way up until I find myself on the edge of my top 10 songs where I'll probably reveal one song every time and write a little extra about each of the respective songs.

Comments and/or predictions are very welcome!

TOP 100 - 90

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/AleksanderWith-Satellites.jpg

100 – Aleksander With – Satellites (#7)

The top 100 starts with a norwegian Idol winner of 2006. Aleksander With finally came back with decent solo material in 2010 with Pictures and a new single in 2011 with Satellites. Both very good songs, and a lot more than I expected from him, tbh. He seems to have worked hard on trying to find his own way of music and I think he's managed to pull it off. Satellites is a midtempo pop song with a bit of Coldplay and a bit of Jónsi. Which is a decent comparison, methinks. That chorus is beautiful, too!

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/ElizavetaDreamer.png

99 – Elizaveta – Dreamer (#4)

Thanks to the country of Elëdan in BJSC I discovered this interesting track with quirky verses, varied structure, vocal rythms and a nicely sung, sophisticated chorus. I gave it 8 points, I think. Definitely worth them points.

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/JessieJfeatBoBPricetag.jpg

98 – Jessie J feat. B.o.B – Price tag (#2)

The artist hailed as the sound of 2011. I LOVED 'Do it like a dude', mostly because it was so fresh and I thought Jessie J seemed so cool. I found out that she had been working as a songwriter to other artists for a long time before she started using her own material. This was her second single, I think, which I really liked as well. It was not as interesting and fresh as 'Do it like a dude' but it's a great, easy-to-listen-to pop song with a nice music video (she has a fun personality!) well deserved of some success.

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/The_AIUCPU.jpg

97 – The_AIU – CPU (#9)

Another BJSC entry, this time sent by Numayania. I gave this song my biggest 12 points and with good reason. It's so dreamy and pleasant, almost soothing in a way. I enjoy her voice as well and I quite liked the production. So beautiful and simple, but with a lot of depth to it. Compelling!

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/HyunaBubblepop.jpg

96 – HyunA – Bubble pop! (#6)

Shameless, fun, flirtatious, bubblegum K-POP? PERFECT! :D

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/BlackCards-Dominoes.jpg

95 – Black Cards – Dominoes (#7)

I initally sent Black Cards to BJSC at the end of 2010, which is when I first discovered them. Pete Wentz from Fall out boy started working on a new project to express new sides of himself and what he can do. I must admit I don't know that much about Fall out boy's music, but I can say that I'm a fan of Black Cards. I've been waiting for their album to be released (it should have been out by now), but in the meantime I have enjoyed this great, experimental electropop track with a light summer breeze to it. Recommended! :D

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/JohnnyHammer.jpg

94 – Technopraise feat. Johnny Hammer – Mary did you know (#5)

A christian technopop production sung by a prepubecent boy. I don't know, but I really like the track. I'm not christian, but I can appreciate the lyrics in that sense, and I don't think he sings that bad, I like his voice, it's so innocent, but still with a lot of heart to it. The phrase "Mary did you know" always gets stuck to my head everytime I hear this as well. I find it beautiful, catchy and endearing!

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/GirlsGenerationMrTaxi.png

93 – Girl’s Generation – Mr. Taxi (3)

Probably my favourite song from Girl's Generations. I haven't heard THAT many by them, but I think this the catchiest for me. I've also just been listening to the japanese version, but I don't feel like listening to any other versions now. Japanese is my preferred asian language, and I think it suits this song nicely. "MR. TAXI TAXI TAXI SOUTOU JEUKSHI JEUKSHI JEUKSHI!"

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/Sistar-Howdareyou.jpg

92 – Sistar – How dare you (#2)

Sistar has two fantastic K-POP songs and because of that - AND because I love their characteristics and personality - have the potential to be one of my favourite korean girl groups out there. This is not their best song, but it's REALLY good. The entertaining music video shows how fabulous the group is, and a bunch of high quality energy bursts out in every dance move :yahoo:

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/HerMajestyTheWolves.jpg

91 – Her Majesty and The Wolves – Goodbye, goodnight (#6)

I sent this song to a spin-off in BJSC, but didn't reach the final. Which is a shame as I think this is an interesting dance/pop song. The production is a bit MUCH, but it's all a part of the charm. The high energy level should make it difficult to enjoy, but strangely has the opposite effect. Quite cool and dancey, and I WAS heavily hooked on it at the time.

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/Keha-Blow.png

90 - Ke$ha - Blow (3)

Ke$ha is a trash pop goddess! She is most probably my favourite female electropop artist in the world and I LOVED her debut album. She hasn't released anything new since then apart from this stutter masterpiece. I wish she'd just release a new album already. I miss being high on Ke$ha! :D

Mr. Taxi was the first version to be released in Japanese so it's actually better in that compared to Korean which is awkward and doesn't flow.

I anticipate this, I will see a lot of K/J-Pop hopefully :kink:

TOP 89 - 80

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/Sichelle-Trengermer.jpg

89 - Sichelle - Trenger mer (#4)

She entered MGP 2011 with this song, but failed to reach both the final and the Last chance round, but I wish she qualified as this is an enjoyable song. I think I like this more because it's in norwegian, but objectively it's a charming song given that production. She has a nice, soft voice and she has always seemed genuine in everything I've hard her singing. Her stage performance is great, too! She only has one album, but if she were to release more material I remain enthusiastic. Fun fact: I once crossed the street at the same time as her in Oslo! :o

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/SwingflyTouchandgo.jpg

88 - Swingfly - Touch and go (#11)

I really like most of Swingflys' pop songs and this is quite a decent, catchy summer tune! It's so easy to get this song stuck in your head, and I like his rapping, but most of all I love the famele singer in this track. I can't remember her name right now, but not only is she fit, she makes this song as enjoyable as it is. I considered sending this to BJSC for a very long time ago (it was released in 2009!), but when Swingfly entered Melodifestivalen I found him a bit too well known. Either way this is highly recommended!

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/HyperCrushKickusout.jpg

87 - Huper Crush - Kick us out (#9)

I think this was a hit at the time it was released, and deservedly so, as this is a SMASHER of a track. And so catchy, so fantastically party flavoured it's immensely easy to get up and dance to! Aaah, the americans knows how to party, indeed! B-)

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/AdeleSomeonelikeyou.jpg

86 - Adele - Someone like you (#4)

This woman needs no introduction, nor do I really need to tell you anything about the track at hand, but I charted this song because I had heard it on the radio A LOT, and then I started to like it. There's no denying she is a star, and I can easily see why.

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/MarinaandTheDiamondsRadioactive.jpg

85 - Marina & The Diamonds - Radioactive (#6)

I am a big fan of Marina, and I bought her debut album 'The family jewels', which I don't regret a single bit - as she is currently one of my most played artists on Last.Fm! I think probably I enjoyed all of her songs at this point, but when she came back with 'Fear & loathing' I actually found myself dissapointed. She had lost that unique, quirky and energetic spark I loved at the time of her debut. So I was reluctant to listen to this song. Apparantly I had no reason to underestimate her; this is a great song, which was perfectly appropriately released at a time where this sound was at its most popular. I miss her original style, but I most certainly welcome this as well. Fascinating voice and lovely dance melodies, ahoi! :D

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/Brandur-Theillusionof.jpg

84 - Brandur - The illusion of (#6)

How can I describe this? Well.. hot stuff Brandur is from Faroe Islands, but have been performing in Iceland and Sweden a lot. He entered Melodifestivalen in 2008, but this is a completely different style than anything else he has done, so I can describe him as a top notch swedish pop artist. But 'The illusion of' sounds like ícelandic jónsi on speed, which is to me a VERY good thing  I love his voice, and the energy in the chorus and melodies/production are contrasted with the calm, beautiful verses. Love it!

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/DajanaLalalove.jpg

83 - Dajana - La la love (#6)

Numayania sent this to BJSC, but I initially did almost send this before that. Dajana is an unknown singer in Sweden and this seems to be her debut track. It's an uneventful track at that, but it's quite a charming and light, little, listening worthy pop song! ^_^

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/LeeJungHyunSuspiciousman.jpg

82 - Lee Jung Hyun - Suspicious man (#5)

Another K-Pop entry! YAY! :D What'cha think, Oricon? :kink: I don't think I dare say anything about this artist since you're reading this, but luckily I don't know that much either, but I think she's a BIG star in South Korea - other than that I think this is more poppy and commercial than her usual material, albeit still with a rough edge. Either way, a GREAT and catchy song!

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/WonderGirlsBemybaby.jpg

81 - Wonder Girls - Be my baby (#5)

This is absolutely lovely! I love how the harmonies are so christmas like, and along with that delicious production and gorgeous choreography this catchy, charming act is so hard to dislike

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af169/Greenfroze/END%20OF%20YEAR%20CHART/AnineStang-Dominoes.jpg

80 - Anine Stang - Dominoes (#5)

Anine is a relatively new norwegian pop artist who entered our pop music scene as a breath of fresh air. She knows how to handle the business and actually managed to get the gituarist from Guns N' Roses, as well as getting blogged about on Perez Hilton. I sent her debut single 'Trying you on' to BJSC, so I wasn't pleased when Letland sent 'Dominoes' to the contest when this was released - mostly because they did better with it :kink: Although I admit this is a better pop song, worthy of more success than it has been getting here in Norway. This is after all high quality scandipop music!

I actually don't know Lee Jung Hyun but that track isn't bad! It's too auto tuned though.... :nocheer:
