Billboard magazine. Beauty.

Also La Roux is now just Elly for the record (and has been for a while). Ben was involved in the writing and production of ~5 tracks on the album, including the first single, before he left though as he has now confirmed on his Twitter.

Any idea what caused the split?
Any idea what caused the split?

No idea! I'm sure it was under good terms though because as mentioned, they still worked together on over half of the new album and he's very supportive of the project still on Twitter.

Also those vocals issues, i've not heard of before, but they begin to explain the lengthy gap between albums i suppose :o

Well I'm just relieved that we can all use 'she' for La Roux now instead of 'they', as that kind of thing always bothers me when the other member(s) has a completely background role . And presumably she can now be nominated for Best British Female at The Brits and the like. My OCD and I will sleep easier tonight ^_^.

Now to resolve the Florence and The Machine pronoun problem...

Now to resolve the Florence and The Machine pronoun problem...

Florence and The Machine was nominated of Best SOLO FEMALE in 2010. And 99% of the universe refers to F+TM as "she" anyway.

I didn't know that about The Brits - interesting. But I've seen/heard loads of 'they'/'the band' references everywhere so I have to disagree with your second point as there's clearly ambiguity about it. The F+TM wikipedia page, for instance (a bastion of truth obviously) refers to 'the band' throughout.

Can read that article here. Key points:

  • She was left mentally and physically exhausted from all the touring/promotion
  • Early 2011, she found herself unable to sing falsetto. Diagnosed with residual muscle tension brought on by performance anxiety
  • Ben parted in February 2012 after disagreeing on direction of the album
  • Goal of the album was to evoke what people in the 70s might percieve what the future would look/sound like
  • The first single is Uptight Downtown rather than LMDG which is a Nile Rodgers type track

she's just so incredible and more vital than ever

i suspect i am going to love everything about this entire project-- from the music to videos to the artwork.

A bit more on the album:

One listen to her new album Trouble in Paradise confirms Jackson has been working hard: a lot of time and dedication seems to have gone into the way it sounds. While still packing the same melodic punch as her debut, this record has a warmer, sexier, more groove-led feel – the result of gruelling sessions ("14 to 16 hours, six days a week, sometimes longer, for two years").

Lovely lovely lovely

The more i hear from the album the more excited i get, but also the more i start to doubt how big it will be commercially. She seems to have found a beautiful sound with it though and no doubt it will all deliver, but it's definitely moving away from the BIG hit sounds of the previous album. Argh so close but i've only just realised i'll be out of the country come release day :(

Thanks to a very, very dear friend, I now have this album *.*

(apologies i will not be leaking it, though i shall tempt you all with highlights and generally feeling like popjustice)

I (as do many others) already have a third of this album, it's not really enough for now. I could listen to the three tracks we do have over and over, do I don't really care for now.

NINE POINTS

1. It's a VERY understated and low-key album, it has to be said.

2. There isn't a big Bulletproof style pop anthem on here - Uptight Downtown's about as close as it goets.

3. There IS a Colourless Colour of sorts on here - Silent Partner, which is a bit of an Atari drone epic. That makes it sound like I don't like it, but it is enjoyable, even though I'm not sure it needs to be as long as it is.

4. In my opinion, she's done a Little Boots and released most of the best tracks beforehand, but I'm only three listens in.

5. Kiss and Not Tell is the obvious Nile Rodgers guitar-inspired track on the album.

6. Sexotheque has an adorably jaunty intro but the hook is MINDWORMTASTIC. ALLTHATMONEYMONEYMONEYIBET

7. The produx is pretty fab throughout.

8. It isn't as good as the first two thirds of La Roux but it's better than the last third.

9. It's probably a grower.

Worth the wait?
Worth the wait?

It's clearly had effort and thought put into it, but it isn't a big comeback record.

Sexotheque and Paradise Is You have leaked. As did Kiss and Not Tell but it's almost instantly vanished without a trace.

Sexotheque has the best hook so far from Trouble. Paradise is a beautiful mid-tempo number.
