Yes, I can definitely see that! Italian pop is definitely very summery - not everyone fancies summery music all year round 🙈🤣 I wasn't keeping track of who was voting for it, but I think you mentioned in here that the songs I charted from BJSC that month weren't your faves haha!

Indeed, I sent 'Poco Poco' back in 181 as my first entry since my hiatus! If I hadn't sent that, I probably would have shortlisted 'Signorina' (I have decided I will try not to send artists that have been sent before going forward, aside from my anniversary entries which I have plans for - so that meant Angie was already out of the running!) 'Signorina' isn't too different too 'Poco Poco', but I think it could well do better than the 24th I placed with that (if I recall, you weren't too much of a fan of 'Poco Poco', so this shows there's some potential for wider appeal with this one!) I remember everyone hating 'Dirtee Disco', but I absolutely adore it. It very often gets stuck in my head, moreso than any of his other songs I'd say! I can kind of see why this pretty much destroyed his charting career though for pretty much the same reasons as you, but I still love it! (And I'm pretty sure I could still [badly] rap the whole first verse if I had a gun to my head)

Ooops at another song I love being out already 🤣 This one wasn't quite wearing the lead boots 'Beautiful Monster' was wearing... But it certainly hasn't stood the test of time. This is one of my favourite of his singles, he sure knows his way around a bop (plus 'Cheyenne', which I wouldn't describe as a bop, but it's certainly sublime). I feel he's mostly remembered for announcing his name in his songs these days 🤣

I'm so confused hahaha. Do you want it to be challenging for #1 or not? 😂 I don't particularly want either of them taking up space at the top, for what it's worth. 'Billie Jean' has had plenty of time in the upper echelons - but I'd argue that there's at least a chance it's partly charting due to a new generation discovering and enjoying the song!

Alot of this is essentially what I said though... People only really listen to what they're fed through tiktok/film (usually by those songs also going viral on tiktok too), with the rest coming from the big playlists on their streaming platform. I think Ella is a good case for that actually, it's doing well because it's been playlisted by Spotify - but hasn't quite made it to the Top 10 because it hasn't gone viral on social media in the same way as some others. The absolute biggest songs almost always have decent social media uptake, and they continue to be consumed beyond their initial viral spurt due to extended playlisting on Spotify. If playlists didn't hold much weight, I'm sure Apple's Top 100 would look very similar to Spotify's, but it really doesn't! I'm sure both factors are fairly equal (as seen by the multitude of viral songs that perform similarly to the songs that are promoted for a short time on Apple because they didn't get picked up by Spotify)

This is an odd take. You like songs recharting when people in the business have orchestrated it by placing it in a film, but not when the public have taken it and run with it (which is often the case with movie songs anyway...)? If anything, recharting because a song was fortunate enough to be selected for use in a film is more dubious - though I don't really agree with that. I think the main issue is that streaming services don't place enough new music on their major playlists or remove old songs often enough. I doubt most people dig deeper than what appears prominently in film/TV or what is added (usually high up) to the major streaming playlists. And that is why what does well varies so much between streaming services - Apple seem to refresh theirs more often (and with different songs to those on Spotify), leading to different songs charting, and their comparatively quickly moving Top 100s. So typically, a song that does well on Apple but not on Spotify will trouble the lower reaches (due to a lower market share), for a short time (because they pull the support plug quicker, in favour of something fresher), on the official chart. Higher market share + infrequent changes in support = long chart runs in the higher positions.

Ah, in which case that clue might have made me think Valencia if I didn't recall Ojnoj being in that contest (so he must have heard LYAS)! I assumed it was something from before my return! And I only have to remember who was present for a few contests 🙈

Our ever graceful Valencia, queen of originality I was so shocked when I heard that in the bridge. 🤣 Going by her aesthetic, the thought of her releasing something inspired by that isn't wilding surprising... it just felt so random in this song!

I didn't try to enter Valencia this time, but I'm kinda surprised it's been vetoed! I was convinced I was the only one here that noticed it's existence, and other artists that have had songs doing just as well as (or even better than) 'Lucky You're A Star' have been entered! For what it's worth, it's a bop but doesn't even come close to being as good as LYAS! A girl gotta put in the work to get that viral smash, you have to admire her determination haha If she didn't do that with literally every song she every plans do release, I probably wouldn't have discovered LYAS and come back to BJSC to try to enter it (obviously I was too slow lol)

I think I'll go against the grain (again) and proclaim that 'Beautiful Monster' is an excellent song and one of my favourite hits of 2010. I think it's my favourite Ne-Yo single! I recall being quite shocked that it went to #1 because hype seemed very muted for this compared to his previous eras. I also don't think I recall seeing it on the music channels etc anywhere near as much as his previous singles... I guess (like alot of the songs that made number one around this time) it had a little case of lead boots causing it to sink to the bottom of the chart 🤣
