I think I'll go against the grain (again) and proclaim that 'Beautiful Monster' is an excellent song and one of my favourite hits of 2010. I think it's my favourite Ne-Yo single! I recall being quite shocked that it went to #1 because hype seemed very muted for this compared to his previous eras. I also don't think I recall seeing it on the music channels etc anywhere near as much as his previous singles... I guess (like alot of the songs that made number one around this time) it had a little case of lead boots causing it to sink to the bottom of the chart 🤣

Facts. And it's a trap I pretty much fell into too (not quite the same as I was listening to some new releases, but usually after I'd heard them elsewhere or from artists I already knew well). But for me, someone who all my friends tell me is on the pulse with new music, to get lazy and just add a few songs to my playlist every month, I'm 99% sure that is exactly what is happening the the majority of the public. I've changed my habits now to allow me to discover much more of the brilliant new music that's out there... But I think it's easy to see why the only songs that take off really are those that become viral on tiktok or are featured prominently in films/tv. You just end up with people in a cycle of listening to the same stuff at the top of their playlist or sticking on a curated playlist which basically includes the most popular songs already and BAM everything else struggles to break through. At least with sales, a song will generally only be purchased once - here we're talking about people probably listening to the same songs whenever they put on their playlists for months!

It pains me to not be excited to watch the contest in the year Delta is competing, but here we are. I only just thought "hey, the semi final is tomorrow, right?", and that's a shame. Tis a shame because a few of the songs are excellent and I'd love to support them. I don't think I'll be watching though.

Absolutely love 2006 for music, but I'm away this weekend/early next week and have already entered BJSC so will really struggle for time to listen, sorry! 😔

'Unconditional' being my #2 song of last year (sandwiched between two other songs here) says it all about my thoughts on it. It was VERY close to getting my 11. Gutted to see it stall just outside the Top 10, but at least my 11 made it! Such a high quality album so some amazing tracks are bound to miss out!

I mean I get it, but movies for juniors exclusives are so annoying when animated films only have evening showings for like their first week on release (if you're lucky) and I can't watch them when I'm at work 🤣 I really feel I would have got this more if I'd have seen it in the cinema, and probably would go to see it if it wasn't just M4J!

It often gets in my head too, certainly more than most of their other songs ('Hey Boy, Hey Girl' being the notable exception!). I do actually really like 'Do It Again' too, but I literally never hear that anymore - I thought that was a long running Top 10 hit though oops.

'Use Me' not being Top 10 is BLASPHEMOUS. Such a rush!

I wonder if there are issues with 'L.A. State of Mind' being credited to Melanie Brown on streaming causing its sales to be registered separately? (And maybe that is preventing people from finding it to download/stream? I just had to search for the album title on Apple to find it as it's nowhere to be seen under "Melanie B")

(intentional double post because I kinda wanted this on its own) Unlike seemingly everyone in here, I actually really like this. 🤣 It definitely doesn't feel like a single, it's more like an intro or an interlude with the way it is literally two verses and suddenly cuts out at end, but there's something in here. It really just needs something extra to feel more than an interlude, but I still like what is actually in the track. Being edged with the verses building into a chorus that never comes is just naughty, Charli! Bizarre that they're pushing this as a single though, not really sure what the label/Charli are aiming for. It's not like she hasn't released a sudden swerve, attention grabbing, non-hit already in the last year ('House') 😂 And for what it's worth, there is definitely rock in here... I'll go with influenced by rock. Lol
