Hello one and all once again!

Well we have a running thread on the Singles so here's the album version! I won't be doing this annually (though it might get added to on an annual basis).

Now before some bright spark kobbar says what the number one is- YES WE ALL KNOW!!!

Having said that there are some genuine surprises along the way so keep em peeled!

So firstly an explanation of what the format is and how I've calculated the various bits and bobs.

PLEASE READ IT WILL SAVE YOU BE RE-DIRECTED HERE!

RELEASE DATE- self explanatory

PEAK POSITION: Will be within the Current decade only! (by which I mean the charts dated 16.01.10- 07.01.12)

WKS ON CHART: Again within this decade and TOP 75 wks only (to make them comparable to previous rundowns I've done)

CHARTING TRACKS: Only those tracks which have made the top 75 and their peak position WITHIN THIS DECADE AND WITHIN THE TIME FRAME ABOVE.

I am thankful to Wikipedia, Chart Stats,OCC, and Vidcapper for their help in compiling this.

I was going to run this after my 80s thread but the longer I leave it the more out of date it gets! :(

100. THE RESISTANCE- Muse (246,800)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/8a/Theresistance.jpg/220px-Theresistance.jpg

RELEASED: 14:09:09

PEAK POSITION: 10

WKS ON CHART: 36

CHARTING TRACKS:

RESISTANCE (38)

UPRISING (53)

TOTAL SALES: 698,800

An instant chart topper on release in late 2009 (their third No 1 album in total) “The Resistance” has so far failed to overtake its predecessor “Black holes & Revelations” which has moved over the 900k since its 2006 debut. Gliding away from the traditional album concept and incorporating elements of classical music, the album was generally praised as a progression by critics whilst only mustering one solitary top 20 hit, nevertheless a solid fanbase and touring saw opening sales of 148k in 2009 (the third highest of the year to that point).

RELEASED: 30.10.11

PEAK POSITION: 6

WKS ON CHART: 9

CHARTING TRACKS: NONE

Boe’s fourth chart album was released just a few months ago to capture the Christmas market and became a second top 10 hit for the Lancashire born tenor. It outpeaked his mainstream breakthrough “Bring Me Home” though is yet to match the formers sales.

98. FLY ME TO THE MOON- THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK VOL 5- Rod Stewart (251,600)

RELEASED: 31:10:10

PEAK POSITION: 5

WKS IN CHART: 12

CHARTING SINGLES:NONE

Ever since Christmas 2002 Stewart has undertaken to record virtually every US written standard there ever was, and in 2010 we reached Volume 5 of his attempts. Whether this is a good or bad thing I’ll you to decide suffice it to say that without them Stewart’s career would have ground to a halt a long time ago. Clearly in making this list he still has fans but you have to wonder how many of these he can churn out?

  its somehow good Muse have never had a massive selling album as it doesn't set any really high boundaries, and they continue to produce really good albums

97. FLAMINGO- Brandon Flowers (252,400)

RELEASED: 06:09:10

PEAK POSITION: 1

WKS ON CHART: 14

CHARTING TRACKS:

CROSSFIRE (8)

Whilst officially on “hiatus” Killers Front man Flowers released his debut solo album back in 2010, leading with the track “Crossfire”. The Charlize Theron lensed promo did its job in securing him a top 10 hit and “Flamingo” dutifully topped the album charts on release (the only major territory where it did so) and has now sold over a quarter of a million copies. Whilst credible it may cause Flowers to return to the hub of the group, after all, each of the Killers albums have easily moved past the million mark, the title incidentally is taken from a street in Las Vegas where Flowers grew up, “Sam’s Town” also references a Las Vegas Casino.

RELEASED: 12:12:10

PEAK POSITION: 4

WKS ON CHART: 6

CHARTING TRACKS:

HOLD MY HAND (10)

Opening with sales over 113k in December 2010 this compilation of previously unreleased material was always going to be a good seller. Much controversy surrounded the album on release with several critics querying whether or not the vocals provided were by Jackson or not, the only single released “Hold My Hand” became Jackson’s first top 10 hit with “new” material since 2003’S “One More Chance”.

95. I DREAMED A DREAM- Susan Boyle (255,700)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2f/Idreamed.jpg

RELEASED: 24:11:09

PEAK POSITION: 4

WKS ON CHART: 25

CHARTING TRACKS: NONE

TOTAL SALES: 1,888,400

There are only three acts who place three albums on the rundown of the decade so far, and one of them is Susan Boyle. In the Noughties this album took just 6 weeks to become the 52nd best seller of the decade with over 1.6 million copies shifted, and its success continued in a new decade where she hasn’t done badly to continue to be a competent, if not as spectacular, seller of albums. It still holds the record for fastest selling debut album ever (411k in debut week) and with that figure the 9th highest weekly sale by an album ever.

Very interesting so far! If you have total figures for the older albums do you mind disclosing them on each entry please Gezza? :D

Ooh cheers :D Muse comfortably past double platinum then, I'm hoping that their album this year will be a million-seller - assuming it's not a gigantic flop I'd put money on a Greatest Hits package being massive over Christmas 2013 if the studio effort doesn't make it.

This has its moments but could've lived without. And this is coming from a HUGE fan.

He has so many fabulous unreleased songs but perhaps Sony didn't own the rights because only the fantastic "Much Too Soon" was on the album.
