82. LOVE LIVE LIFE- N-Dubz (281,000)

PEAK POSITION: 7

WKS ON CHART: 12

CHARTING TRACKS:

WE DANCE ON (6)

BEST BEHAVIOUR (10)

GIRLS (18)

MORNING STAR (52)

Third and, it would appear, final studio album from Tulisa, Dappy & Fazer, “love.Live.Life” saw light of day in time for Christmas 2010 on the strength of back to back top 10 hits for the first time in their career as a group. Whilst Tulisa of course went on to become an X Factor judge and start to prepare that solo album, it was Dappy who bore first fruits of solo success when he topped the charts last year with “No Regrets”- his previous controversies (including the now infamous “Chris Moyles show” where a listener to the show was threatened by Dappy for negative comments, seem to not have dented his appeal.

81. NEVER FORGET- THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION- Take That (284,300)

RELEASED: 14:11:05

PEAK POSITION: 33

WKS ON CHART: 29

CHARTING TRACKS: NONE

TOTAL SALES: 2,200,300

The phenomenal selling power of Take That is once again demonstrated by this 7 year old greatest hits set which has now quite comfortably outsold the previous “Greatest Hits” released back when they called it a day in 1996. Of course massive tours and headline grabbing studio albums (not to mention Barlow’s “X Factor” mentoring and the return of Robbie) meant they are never far from the newspapers in the current decade.

80. SOME KIND OF TROUBLE- James Blunt (286,400)

RELEASED: 07:11:10

PEAK POSITION: 4

WKS ON CHART: 17

CHARTING TRACKS:

STAY THE NIGHT (26)

Talking about the law of diminishing returns here’s Blunt’s third album. Whilst “Back To Bedlam” was the biggest selling album of the 00s, 2007’s follow up “All The Lost Souls” again topped the charts but with a fraction of the sales, and 2010’s “Some Kind Of Trouble” failed to produce any more than one hit single or break the 300k mark yet. After the ubiquitous “You’re Beautiful” he faced quite a backlash and in truth he hasn'’t really ever recovered from that.

By some way the oldest album on this rundown

Except the 2-years-older 'Number Ones' by Michael Jackson you mean... :kink:

'Stay The Night' is the sole decent track James Blunt has ever made. 'You're Beautiful' is horrendous and I completely fail to see why it of all songs was a massive hit both here and in the USA ()

Edited by Bré

I don't own any of these albums! Although my mum owns Take That's Ultimate Collection and Kasabian's Velociraptor, and my grandma owns Susan Boyle's I Dreamed a Dream

What were TTs other old album sales like? I have to imagine Beautiful World and circus weren't too far off making this list...

Any figures/to dates at all Gezza?

"Some Kind of Trouble" actually sold reasonably following the % dropoff between "Back to Bedlam" and "All The Lost Souls". Shame about the latter, "1973" was actually really good.

Looking back at it, Foo Fighters were quite lucky ATLS wasn't bigger. Having sold something ridiculous like 165k and stalling at #2 behind Coldplay's second week at the top with "X&Y", they released "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace" the week after Blunty so if he'd held onto more of his fanbase from "Back to Bedlam" they might have missed the top spot again. As it was ESP&G sold 135k in its first week which would have beaten Blunt even in his first week :o

Wow I had no idea either Love Live Life or Some Kind of Trouble sold so much. Blunt still has a fanbase, somehow.

Fraid not- though when the top 200 for 2011 arrives we might get more of an inkling.

79. THE AWAKENING- James Morrison (297,000)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/63/TheAwakening.jpg

RELEASED: 25:09:11

PEAK POSITION: 1

WKS ON CHART: 14

CHARTING TRACKS:

I WON’T LET YOU GO (5)

UP (35)

Morrison made it two out of three when this album topped the charts back in October last year. An album influenced by both his father’s death and his own parenthood, the set proved to have legs not slipping out of the top 40, after its initial fortnight at No 1, for the rest of 2011. Despite mixed reviews, ex-Suede member Butler has been generally praised on production duties, but there is little doubt Morrison needs a big hit off this to continue selling at the pace registered by his initial two albums.

78. UP TO NOW-Snow Patrol (298,600)

RELEASED: 06.11.09

PEAK POSITION: 12

WKS ON CHART: 37

CHARTING TRACKS:

JUST SAY YES (65)

TOTAL SALES: 864,500

Released as a testament to their 15 years in the music business, “Up To Now” is more a collection of the bands favourite tracks rather than a greatest hits set strictly speaking. It opened at No 3 back in 2009, the band having gained in popularity and selling ability ever since the release of “Final Straw” back in 2004 and peaking with 2006’s “Eyes Open” which was one of only 24 albums to sell 2 million copies in the noughties. It's only a matter of time before this becomes their third million seller.

77. ONE LOVE- David Guetta (307,500)

RELEASED: 24:08:09

PEAK POSITION: 10

WKS ON CHART: 52

CHARTING TRACKS:

GETTIN OVER YOU (1)

WHO’S THAT CHICK? (6)

MEMORIES (15)

SEXY CHICK (45)

WHEN LOVE TAKES OVER (62)

TOTAL SALES: 478,000

Another case of clever re-packaging saw Guetta’s fourth album continue to sell well into the 2010s. Home to a trio of No 1 singles his career went into overdrive in 09 helped by the vocal talents of Rihanna, Kelly Rowland, Fergie & Akon, a zapped up version of the album “One More Love” was unleashed in time for Christmas 2010 and helped sales towards the half million mark by the end of 2011.

Morrison made it three out of three when this album topped the charts back in October last year.

Three out of three what? Album releases? :kink: Songs For You, Truths For Me peaked at #3.

Ooops don't know why I thought it topped the charts! altered- thanks
I own David Guetta's One Love, but that's just 'cause it was 2 for £10 :P

You didn't buy 2 copies? :o

  • Author
I'd be more worried if you owned an N-Dubz album.

One Band I will NEVER see the appeal of!

You didn't buy 2 copies? :o

No, there was an album I wanted to buy and it was 2 for £10, so I tried to find another 2 for £10 album, that being David Guetta's One Love, so I didn't have to pay a few quid extra. :D
