What Rihanna video came out recently?! :o Or are you referring to Birthday Cake? I heard there'd be a video for that soon (I would love a video for it, the song is awesome).

A video premiere list could be useful, but a lot of the time they have practically no impact on the charts.

One Direction this week ended up at #16 on Digital Downloads in Official Chart, shows you how strong their physicals must have been!

IIRC EP sales aren't counted in the downloads chart but I'm not 100% sure on that. If they aren't though that's another boost 1D had.

You dont think? Surely the video release for certain artists is THE reason they rise the chart when they are already available, especially rihanna songs? But i know you will probably list a few releases that had a video but stalled at 51 or something.

Think Talk Talk Talk is getting a premiere this week or next, its on the radio 1 play list too!!

Heard Ushers new song Climax there - this will be massive, just hope he doesnt hold it back too long, its just sooo different!

Rihanna has had #1s before getting music videos before (and yes, she's had songs with music videos miss the top 40). And currently there's Take Care which has spent almost 3 months in the chart. You place way too much importance on music videos imo. Rihanna has a lot of geniunely catchy songs, and we're not brainwashed to like them by her dancing half-naked in the music videos.

I think radio airplay is the most important factor in songs rising up the charts. Madonna's song is flopping due to lack of radio airplay, rather than lack of video airplay imo.

I really like Climax. It's a pleasent surprise from Usher. I don't think it will be massive though. Not in the UK. For the reason you said. It's "too" different, if anything (although as I said before, Gotye getting #1 does give me hope ).

Usher didn't hold back OMG or DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love very long. Their chart runs were:

OMG: 13-8-2-1-2-2-2-3-6-12...

DJ...: 20-20-20-20-21-24-17-14-7-11... - This chart run is CLASSIC

So I don't think Climax will be held back long here. Not much longer than say, Moves Like Jagger was held back. But on the other hand, I wouldn't be wholy surprised if it ends up as a US only single, or it starts off really badly so his label give up on it straight away. After a year like 2011, I'm just really pessimistic about these things now.

Usher is currently scheduled for 15th April

That's annoying. Although it'll flop anyway I think, so it doesn't really matter. Maybe top 20 off a fanbase buy (if he still has a fanbase in the UK anymore) and then free-fall out of the top 200 in a couple of months (so by June). I'm not very good with predictions though.

How did MTV cope with the title/lyrics?? They won't even show the Pogues/Kirsty uncut, so they must have been having a fit over this!

Could Wilson Phillips re-enter the top 40 with "Hold On"?

Is there some reason he should?

If it's charting so high off hype for her BRITs performance, it'll probably get back in the top 40 then! :o

She doesn't even have a BRITs performance  It's just the weekend effect.

Whos Wilson Phillips?!

An early 90s pop rock group. 'Hold On' has been in the chart for various reasons recently (used in the film Bridesmaids, reduced to 59p, used on the X Factor and now used on Dancing On Ice).

Physicals and digital EPs :P

Doubtful if they didn't manage it after X Factor when they shot straight into the iTunes top 40 (whereas it's still only #41 now).

I've never seen the video on MTV, but I'd imagine they just censor it like they do with normal songs. The N-word isn't actually used that much in the song (it's used more in other songs such as The Motto). In terms of the title, they just call it "In Paris" or "Paris" on the radio stations I've heard it on, so probably the same on MTV. I think it's okay, since it'll still come up if people search for the song on the Internet after hearing it.

Rack City up to #60. Hopefully it can chart top 75 this week. I want this to just shoot up the chart really fast like Titanium and Somebody That I Used to Know. I'm fed up of it climbing like 2 places a day. :drama: Reminds me of Down On Me from last year, it seemed to take like 4 months to get into the top 40.

It's the 1st and 3rd results (video and audio respectively) on YouTube when searching for just 'paris' so finding it isn't too much of a difficulty

Interestingly the Watch The Throne videos seem to have all been uploaded to Kanye's VEVO.

And interestingly, "in paris jay z" and "paris jay z" appear in the auto-complete list higher up than "in paris kanye" and "paris kanye". :kink:

I'm surprised though, I would've expected them to make a new VEVO account for their videos from that album. I'm sure they've got the money too.

'Ass Back Home' still not in the top 10 (#12) :D

Although on the downside that means Alyssa still is, which is worse <_< I think GCH will probably climb in later today anyway.

Sorry Eric I think youve misunderstood my arguement here,im not arguing that its the only reason for chart sucess just that its a major reason. Songs with heavy video play 'nearly' always rise up the chart. I think it is more important than radio play but both together lead to a higher and more stable chart run. There's loads of radio 2 songs that are high up the airplay chart but dont chart that highly - currently Bruce Springsteens song is a good example!

BUY CLUB LIGHT PEOPLE! Is it in the top 1000?

Unfortunately, it's not.
