Yep it has been discussed a little bit! Did you listen to the snippet from the Chasing The Saturdays final episode? ^_^

Indeed, but sounds a bit wish-washy compared to the other clips we've heard.

I agree. I prefer Not Giving Up On Love.

  • 2 weeks later...

It seems that their writing more songs for the album!

Their working with Sandy Vee who wrote songs including...

David Guetta - Sexy Bitch, Where Them Girls At

Rihanna - S&M, Only Girl

Katy Perry - Firework

Ne-Yo - Beautiful Monster

Alexis Jordan - Hush Hush, Good Girl

Nicole Scherzinger - Wet & Boomerang

Una is also writing with Ed Drewett who's wrote The Wanted - All Time Low & Glad You Came.

Those tracks are amazing! I'd love The Sats to come out with a song like s&m

So the songs in speculation for the album are:-

Gentlemen

Lease My Love

What About Us

All 4 Love

You Dont Have The Right

30 Days

Not Giving Up On Love (imagine if this wasn't even included on the album and we never even got to hear a full version) :-O

I hope Frankie sings more on this album, I personally love her voice, but then again I think Louis is the best singer in One Direction. I think the order for best overall voice (not ability, just best voice) is:

Rochelle - She's improved MAJORLY since the start of the band, her falsetto is so much more controlled and feminine than it used to be, it used to be so shakey. She's always been good at the lower harmonies and has really good control over her voice when she's singing in her lower range but has adapted her higher range to almost match the same quality. Although sometimes strained she is actually quite a powerhouse and can pull of a high note or two. As for runs, licks and trills... She has also improved in this department aswell, she never really had enough lines in the 'Chasing Lights' era to showcase her vocal dynamics but when she came to her own in the 'Wordshaker' era she definitley boasted a nice range of gymnastics within her voice on tracks like 'Denial' and 'Wordshaker'. She also has a very nice, deep tone, perfect for R&B ballads and more empowerment type songs (ala Beyonce). Due to Vanessa's recently lacking voice Rochelle has naturally taken the lead, leaving the others so far behind her.

Vanessa - Now Vanessa, or should I say... Tranessa, traipses in second (most likely drunk) after failing to deliver her phenomenal voice we all know she has inside of her live nor in the studio. At the very beginning of The Saturdays as they were emerging to the dizzy heights of the public eye Vanessa was considered the 'Xtina' of the group due to her INCREDIBLE range and knock-dead sass she... Well... Knocked us dead with. Littering 'Chasing Lights' with ad-libs and arguably the stand out verses of the album whilst also being the only girl in the band to receive a solo on every song (unsurprisingly). However, her voice may be outstanding but over these past few years her vocal ability has started faulter, whether it be down to her alcoholism, her smoking or her "lack of confidence" nobody knows, thus remain the mystery of Tranessa. As a consequence of consistent cracks and flat notes she suffers a blow to the 'Best singer' reputation and fails to wow us with her once sensational vocal gymnastics (whilst regularly having to use her same-old albeit stunning falsetto) and gaining less solos on albums e.g. 'On Your Radar'. Having said this, Vanessa still remains one of the most talanted artists of the group hense the 'Second best singer' title.

Una - Now Una is a tricky voice to try and "de-code", if you will. Although being the very talented, hard-working musician she is, her voice quite often manages to underwhelm. Despite having one of the largest vocal ranges in The Saturdays (the reason for all of the big notes she owns) it is regularly inconsistent, especially when singing live. She's proven that she can belt a bigg'un (Keep me on your radaaaaaaaaar, so listeeeeeeeen [however that latter being smothered with auto-tune]) but never delivers live. Taking into account her lack of control over the big notes during performances, she's showed us time and time again that acoustic performances really are her forte. Without having to dance awkwardly just sitting with a guitar on her lap makes Una the star of the group for a few minutes as she can use runs, licks and trills as well as using ad-libs to surprise us with an unforgettable vocal delivery. Una's range is rather huge, I mean one minute she can be harmonising on her lower register alongside Rochelle, the next she can be dealing her always alarming feline-register alongside the pitch-perfect, flawless falsetto Mollie but her voice does become a little grating when her tone summons dogs and cats to the stage with her iconic 'mating call of the bluebird' voice. The not-so-typically girl band style singer earns the "coveted" third place spot.

Frankie - Despite not having the best voice in the group, she most certainly does not have the worst. Coming at fourth is the VERY inconsistent (due to her low self-esteem) but nevertheless beautifully toned Frankie. Her tone is gorgeous, her range is quite large and is able to sing a marvellous falsetto, but every asset comes at a price... It's jut a shame that Frankie's price is that she very rarely manages to deliver that voice when needed. She has the capability to belt like Vanessa (see live acoustic version of 'Issues' at the Nokia Green Room) ad not get drowned out and then can use a lower register on songs like 'What About Us' where in live performance flaunts a nice vibrato although virtually whispering it. In my opinion Frankie has the most listenable voice when she gets it right (an example is 'Turn Myself In' live at the Headlines! Tour) but when she shakes and sings off-key, her voice can sound very nasal and flat which leads many people to believe she is the least vocally talanted.

Mollie - Finally, we have the pitch-perfect, flawless falsetto pop princess Mollie! I think Mollie has the smallest range within the group and very rarely sings out of her comfort zone (quite rightly). This then causes a consistently good performance from her a she can nail every note and even kick her efforts into falsetto which then shows her poppy, cutesy, oh-so Mollie voice which we all know and love. As I sated earlier she mainly executes the notes perfectly but when she holds a note for too long or is given a run or trill to complete, the outcome is not what is hoped for. Mollie is best when given the quick, soft notes rather than the long, dynamically challenging ones (See Vanessa's ad-lib straight after the second chorus in 'Last Call'). Her consistency live and in the studio earns Mollie a very good reputation but her in capability to impress with a large range leaves her trailing in last place, all the while most definitley not being labelled a 'Bad singer'.

This is my evaluation on their voices, feel free to challenge the ideas and comment, I love a good debate haha!

This is also why I hope on this new album ROBO-Frankie disappears and Rochelle owns it.

EDIT - sorry for all the mistakes and there were loads of colours and bold words to make it easier to read but my iPod f***ed it up :(

Hmmm I don't know... Does Rochelle comes first, does Frankie comes last...Ugh, it's so hard. I would say : switch Frankie and Mollie and I guess you got it "right". To be honest, it's really hard to judge their voices because they all have flaws and qualities. For example, even if Frankie's voice is the weakest, she can hit the highest notes within the group, so in terms of high harmonies, she probably can do harmonies Vanessa and Mollie can't do, but then these two have a way better lower range, so they probably can hit low notes that Frankie can't hit... Do you get what I mean haha?

I think it's also hard because we all know Vanessa isn't as good as she used to be, so we tend to say that not only Rochelle, but also Una are better than Ness, but sometimes, she just sounds amazing that it makes you wonder where she really stands in the group. Is she really the third singer just before Mollie? Or does she deserve to be 2nd, just before Una? It's kinda complicated, isn't it?

Another thing. Mollie's range is as good as Frankie. For all the high notes Mollie can't hit but Frankie can, she makes it out with the low notes Frankie can't hit. Range =/= belting like Vanessa. Mollie's lower range is bigger than Frankie's which is no surprise as the first one is either an alto or a mezzo-soprano while the other one is a soprano.

I do agree about Frankie's amazing falsetto! I loved it. I don't know if it was in this thread, but I posted a performance of Somebody Else's Life where it just sounds PURE. Oh and I do not think her verse on Turn Myself In is the best she has ever sounded. Actually, I think it sounded better when Mollie covered it because Frankie was ill. I also thought Una did a better job than her on most songs she has covered for her. That being said, Frankie sounded good covering for Una once, so fair enough haha! :P

So apparently this is out at the end of the year now?

WTF? Will that be FOUR singles (30 Days, What About Us, Gentleman in June/July and #4 in the autumn) before the album is released then? WHO DOES THAT?!?!

I assume they feel that Gentleman is not the right lead single, they've still been recording.... so I'm sure they've just recorded a great song.

PETER f***ING LORRAINE.

He's so useless, I can't even deal with him and his ugly ass jeans anymore.

The more singles before, the more it has to appeal to people.. I'm more thank happy with three singles before.. (30 Days is soooo OYR)
The thing is, if they do four singles before the album they better do at least two after to keep the album afloat. Otherwise it will sink like a rock in typical Sats fashion. I like how they totally gave up on OYR as soon as the album was released.

On Your Radar had 3 singles before, yet it didn't work that way...

Releasing in the fourth quarter is a big mistake. They should release it this summer and keep promoting it until December for Chrimast sales and have a tour in January.

If the album performs on part with On Your Radar (unlikely) off the back of three singles then the project will shelved uet again. I'm hoping the album continues there trend of successful selling albums - flop - success - flop.

How do you know this!?

Even if they do release this in the fourth quarter that's notching to worry about because if you remember correctly Chasing Lights was released in November. As long as they launch the album with a hit (ala Up) and release 2/3 moderate hits afterwards the album should still sell well and peak quite high (low top ten?).

Chasing Lights didn't peak in the top 10 and was released in October. It only peaked at #8 because of the constant promotion (they were literally everywhere, even after the release week). Considering The Saturdays and their management think they are the shit (probably even more now that they have a #1), they will release the album on the top of the acoustic version of Somebody Else's Life the week Beyonce, One Direction, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Little Mix, Olly Murs, all release a new album and then they will wonder why it charted at #23 and watch it drop down the charts while they don't promote it. ;)

Oh and Vanessa said it in an interview to answer your question. ^_^

You can't just release a "hit", though. You need airplay, TV rotation, tons of promotion and a bit of buzz around you. If they release in Q4 again like On Your Radar they'll get completely overshadowed and flop AGAIN.

It seems clear now that the reason the album is being pushed back is so they can do the Justin Bieber tour, which I don't think there's much point in doing now since the US campaign is dead.

Didn't Chasing Lights repeak at #9 due to the reissue being released to include Just Can't Get Enough?

It repeaked during the 'Issues' release.
