I'm pretty sure neither of them need the promo. And I think it was the producers who teasted the collab, not Rihanna. Actions speak louder than words.

Of course they don't need the promo but the fact that Rihanna tweeted about this coming out and making such a fuss of the longer version of this, therefore using it as promotion over twitter etc just proves that it was a publicity stunt imo. I don't for a second believe this was done last minute either, or anything about the 'unfinished' original.

Well I love both songs especially Birthday Cake its so hot I think people need to get over it now its been three years its only a song its not like there getting back together anyway . He has a girlfriend yes what he did was wrong but she's forgiven him and she's moved on its her choice.

Not. Worth. It.

The finished version really rubs me up the wrong way. I gave it one listen, that's all it's getting. Not going to go into the personal stuff, that has to be Rihanna's business with what she does, but this whole thing is not worth any of the attention it's going to get.

I just hope everyone moves on swiftly from this, it was a bad decision, but now it's happened, it's happened and there's nothing we can do about it.

I found it really disturbing listening to it, tbh. Not even a fan of the remix either, but I've lost all f***ing respect I had for her now.

I'm just going to go right out and say it, I think that most people are overreacting about the situation. yes, he did beat her up, which was very wrong of him, but the man's suffered enough. this happened many years ago and he's still receiving shtick, and now he's going to get even more for doing this, just like rihanna herself will too. it's not the best move to make I'll admit but they've said endless times that they're fine with each other and hardly anyone is listening, so now people will. if they do end up getting back together than fair enough, shame on her, but right now I'm not seeing it, many artists collaborate on songs together about intimacy but never end up getting with each other, regardless of their past. she's not lost any respect from me yet, although that would change completely if they did end up getting back together.

the song is good overall, like I was expecting it to be. a version without chris would be nice to hear too, just to hear what it'd be like with just her on it.

My issue is that when she was releasing (promoting) Rated R in 2009 she went on US TV (ABC's 20/20) and said that she wanted to help people that have suffered domestic abuse and a whole load of other things... and now to promote a new song she goes and makes this horrid remix. Ugh

I guess its more about sales and charts than being a role model at the end of the day.

"Can't wait to blow your candles out"

Well you already knocked her lights out... so....

Not even worth commenting on. I've lost any respect I ever had for her and just feels like such a massive slap in the face as a huge fan of hers who supported her since the start of her career. Not gonna bother listening to it, the fact the songs good wouldn't change my mind, the whole thing just sickens me. She had a chance to be a good role model, but she blew it, and I hope her career does take a serious backlash now.

I don't think it's an overreaction. She played the sympathy card as soon as it happened, did the whole Rated R deathly look for a while, so obviously people were going to be up in arms.. Next thing she's singing songs with him like 'remember how we did it' etc etc. She's used the whole thing as a publicity stunt, people will talk about her now and it's what she wanted.

She's honestly lost any sympathy I ever had for her, not because shes back with him (if she is) but because of the distateful and promotional way she's done it all.

she's not lost any respect from me yet,

She's using the fact that she got beaten up to make money. This is after the world gave her loads of sympathy. It's disgusting

She's not making money though really, it's not on sale...

I always see people stating this on Youtube but for most Rihanna songs the little advert is usually for M.I.A's 'Bad Girls' for me.

I don't have strong views on this as some, but there are ways of doing things and this doesn't seem like a great choice.

I actually like the remix better than the originals, I guess I'm one of the people who goes by "good music is good music".
I love Rihanna and I still really like her but with her lyrics, songs like 'S&M', some of her videos and outfits, I haven't seen her as a 'good' role model for some time. Not trying to defend all this but it's not exactly the first time she's done something for publicity either. If she wants to forgive him, that's her choice. I won't lose much respect for her until they are 'officially' back together.

I do agree with this to an extent, but the fact that Birthday Cake is about how much they want to f*** each either it's just too awkward to quite love it.

Actually, I retract my previous comment as I prefer the original Birthday Cake version. It's awkward the way all Chris sings is how much he wants to f*** Rihanna

The Turn Up The Music remix with Rihanna is much better than just Chris though. I'll give them props for that

The problem for me is, in full 'Birthday Cake' is not a good song, regardless of the fact Chris is on it. It was better as an interlude and shall remain it on my iTunes.
Rihanna needs to grow a back bone.
