I don't know if there should be a split between years for threads, but I think not so many people will join in. :(

Giving my first ever PROPER spins of 1998 and 1999.

'Marija Magdalena' is LIFE. 'Kärleken är' *.* 'Reise nach Jerusalem' *.* Bosnia & Herzegovina *.*

I bet Rich is LOVING the Norwegian 1999 entry! :kink:

Pre-2000 entries are not only of United Kingdom though. :o
I watched 1991 the other day. Imagine San Remo but less comprehensible and only slightly shorter

But they are usually the best :D

It should have been top 5 at the very least :( . 20th was a complete injustice!

Other highlights from the 90's were Sebnem Paker's entries for Turkey, Mana Mou from Cyprus, Mekado and the wonderful Slovakian entry in 1998.

1999 was a fabulous year too, Cyprus was severely underrated, but then it was sandwiched in between the unstoppable Charlotte Nilsson and Selma. At least the UK voted for it!

Oh you silly.

If anything, the only British entry I'd class as OMG AMAZING is 'Love Shine a Light'. ANTHEM.

I'm still weak for this entry from Portugal in 1981  Play Back ^_^

It came 18th our of 20 entries with 9 points

how about this Spanish classic from the ESC in Zagreb in 1990:

NO, watch this clip instead, the highlight of ESC 1990

And not forget the biggest flop in Melodifestivalen, in 1995 Sweden sent 'Den Vilda' instead of this!

'Den Vackraste Jag Vet' was one of the biggest hits in Scandinavia in the 90's  It brings me back to the 90's  It stayed 47 weeks in the Swedish singles chart total, including seven weeks at #1, and 29 weeks in Norway, reaching #2 for 3 weeks.

I have sooo much I want to say about the pre 2000's  but I dont want to spam this thread

Marija Magdalena is LIFE ITSELF!

What a coincidence that this thread was started just as I downloaded 1956-2009!

Marija Magdalena is LIFE ITSELF!

We agree on something :o

I'll come back to this when I have access to my laptop (on an iPod touch currently) but I have much to offer to this discussion

Oh and wasn't it Se Pa Meg that was sent instead of (the wonderful) Det Vackraste? Den Vilda was the year after...Would have been STUNNING back to back entries from Sweden

When I first heard about Eurovision was back in 1994 when Hungary reached its best. I remember I was on a bus travelling back from a school trip when I first listened to Friderika's song on the radio, oh sweet memories  From then I've followed every contest but when I got obsessed with it is around '98-'99.

The best ever Eurovision song is pre-2000:

This is one of 4 pre-2009 entries I actually know. The others being Gemini (Nil Points disaster), Scootch (Because it was like everywhere and HORRIFIC) and the OUTSTANDING (etc) Maria Haukaas Storeng - Hold On Be Strong.

Now for someone else who went onto find big fame after Eurovision

No not Precious! (Although they did have a small out of success post contest) But a brunette Jenny Frost is here somewhere (apparently) and went on to get three number 1 singles in the UK as part of Atomic Kitten. I have no idea what happened to the lead singer, anyone have any clue?

Why on earth aren't you taking part in the Super Eurovisions to remedy this MASSIVE OUTRAGEOUS HOLE? :o
