Great to see Alexandra doing this well despite being so unsupported. I wonder if she has more promo.

I can't see Alexandra holding the top 3, if Marcus slipped from #6 last week on Tues mids and entered the chart at #9 on Sunday, she could be looking at a #5 or a #6 entry come Sunday.

At the moment I can't find any twitter news on Marcus's album.

Not surprised she's entered @ #2 - that's a combination of being #3 on iTunes and the pre-orders for the EP allowing that to debut @ #3 on iTunes albums chart. She's probably narrowly ahead of Nicki though and will almost certainly slip back, probably as early as tomorrow but definitely by Friday.

She should though be comfortably top 3 this week unless Emeli/Flo get a significant boost from TV promo or something like that. She should remain at iTunes Singles Chart #3 until the usual Thursday evening / Friday morning tail off which means she'll be ahead of Emeli/Flo for the majority of the week, and even when she does slip behind them on the iTunes Singles Chart, the EP sales will probably mean she's still just ahead/level/just behind and the lead built up early in the week will see her through.

I'm almost certain she'll debut at #3 this week officially unless something dramatic happens. If she's #5 or #6 officially this week I'll remove Leona Lewis from my sig.

Speaking of Leona, what actually happened to her? I know Alexandra's release schedules are messed up but no one seems to know whats going on with Leona

I don't know how she's expected to compete with artists such as Gaga and Rihanna (total machines) when she releases two singles and then goes away for three years, then releases another two singles before going away again. Such a shame. And she's not exactly getting younger.

The current release date is November 2012. -_- Tbf to Leona, it was a miracle that 'Collide' got as high as #4.

Whilst elephants are massive animals, I very much doubt there's one big enough to completely obscure a spacecraft.

Well somebody that Gotye used to know is blocking both of them. Kimbra must be one fat woman. :kink:

Hoping Cody Simpson's So Listen can become his first charting single over here! Fingers crossed it keeps steady over the rest of the week.

The collab with T-Pain seems a bit random but seems okay... Would be good if Cody finally got a top 40 I guess... Glad Gotye is doing so well still, it's a great song and will be remembered more than Elephant by a country mile.

Hoping Cody Simpson's So Listen can become his first charting single over here!

I might find out who on earth he is, then... :P

Midweek Charts: Wives and Mothers shaping albums countdown

Source: MW

15:45 | Wednesday March 14, 2012

By Paul Williams

Military Wives appear to be capitalising on Mother’s Day gift buying after moving ahead of BBC Sound Of 2012 winner Michael Kiwanuka in the race to top this Sunday’s UK artist albums chart.

The Christmas singles chart-toppers debuted at number two behind Bruce Springsteen last Sunday with their Decca debut In My Dreams, but they have now overturned an early lead this week attained by Kiwanuka’s with his newly-issued Polydor introductory set Home Again.

In My Dreams was around 2,000 sales ahead up to the end of business on Tuesday, according to Official Charts Company Data, with Kiwanuka placed second, Virgin’s Emeli Sande holding her position of three achieved last weekend with Our Version Of Events, Adele remaining at four with her XL album 21 and Springsteen’s Columbia-handled Wrecking Ball falling 1-5.

Also debuting in the Top 10 in the week so far is X Factor 2011 runner-up Marcus Collins whose self-titled RCA effort is seventh, just a few sales behind Polydor’s Lana Del Rey album Born To Die in sixth position. The Top 10 is completed by Asylum/Atlantic’s Ed Sheeran dropping 5-8 with +, Coldplay’s Parlophone album Mylo Xyloto holding at nine and Mercury act Lionel Richie’s Tuskegee slipping 7-10.

Other new albums cropping up lower down in the midweeks include a new Sony-issued Michael Bolton retrospective (number 15), Polydor-signed Jason Donovan’s Sign Of Your Love (33) and 4AD’s Grimes with Visions (40).

The week’s biggest percentage sales gain belongs to Demon’s Justin Fletcher whose Hands Up – The Album moves 16-13 with a 57% week-on-week sales increase.

The singles chart this weekend is likely to be led for a fifth week by Island’s Gotye featuring Kimbra with Somebody That I Used To Know. It was around 7,000 sales ahead up to the close of trading on Tuesday of the newly-issued Syco single Elephant by Alexandra Burke and Erick Morillo in second place. Cash Money/Island’s Nicki Minaj holds at three with Starships, while Virgn’s Emeli Sande drops 2-4 with Next To Me and the Atlantic-issued Wild Ones by Flo Rida featuring Sia falls 4-5.

Outside the Top 10, Atlantic’s Jason Mraz arrives in 23rd position in the week so far with I Won’t Give Up, while Sour Marsh’s Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds start at 28 with Dream On. Virgin act Swedish House Mafia crop up as a new entry at 40 with Greyhound, while Island’s Paul Weller arrives in 45th position with That Dangerous Age following his appearance on Jonathan Ross’s ITV1 chat show last Saturday.

Gotye is 7,000 ahead of Alexandra, and the Military Wives are 2,000 ahead. MW mid report to follow.

Wasnt expecting Military Wives to be #1 even if is Mother's Day this week. Interested to see where Marcus Collins is.

Just seen he's #7 not great with sales so low right now. Was wondering if he would do a Rebecca Ferguson and despite the single not doing so well, sell quite a few albums. Ed Sheeran will probably overtake him by the end of the week as well.

I think the chart from OCC is a lot better than scrolling up and down on the Radio 1 site, its all mashed up together without the fancy bits.
