Ah, the regions are so different. Just like TV shows, used to be. Hence, ITV regions, playing out different shows at the same times. Especially across the Weekend in the 70s & 80s. Some regions preferred "Hart To Hart" to "A Man Called Sloane" & "Hawaii Five O" to "Simon & Simon".

This did differ to the top 10s, that were printed in the Sunday People & Mail On Sunday. Mainly because they printed a Wednesday chart, & the Smash Hits Chart was a Friday chart. It did not affect the #1s, though.

1st Jan 12 PARADISE - COLDPLAY never released in Physical format in the UK. Military Wives were still the Tuesday midweek #1, & also #1, without downloads alone

8th Jan 12 GOOD FEELING - FLO RIDA the Big Top 40 would be bragging on this one, because they had it at #1 at the beginning of December 2011! It was never released in Physical format in the UK. So, "Lego House" & Ed Sheeran was #1, without downloads alone

15th Jan 12 DOMINO - JESSIE J never released in Physical format in the UK. So, "Video Games" & Lana Del Rey was #1, without downloads alone & only available Physically on 7 inch vinyl

29th Jan 12 TWILIGHT - COVER DRIVE

5th Feb 12 ALONE AGAIN - ALYSSA REID only a midweek #1. "Titanium" & David Guetta/Sia beat it in the end. Neither were released in Physical format in the UK. So, Cover Drive remained at #1, without downloads alone

12th Feb 12 TITANIUM - DAVID GUETTA/SIA Gotye overtook by the end of the week. Cover Drive remained at #1 for a 3rd week, without downloads alone

19th Feb 12 HOT RIGHT NOW - DJ FRESH/KIMBRA only available in Physical format on 12 inch

26th Feb 12 SOMEBODY I USED TO KNOW - GOTYE/KIMBRA never released in Physical format in the UK. So, DJ Fresh remained at #1, for 2 more weeks, without downloads alone

11th Mar 12 SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW - GOTYE/KIMBRA this week "Seven Nation Army" & Marcus Collins was #1, without downloads alone

18th Mar 12 SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW - GOTYE/KIMBRA this week, DJ Fresh/Rita Ora return to #1, without downloads alone

25th Mar 12 PART OF ME - KATY PERRY this week "Proud" & JLS are #1, without downloads alone

Starting to get confusing now, & we've got to tackle Physical #1s, yet!

Now, most people know that after April 2006. more & more tracks, began to enter the charts on download alone & it became possible to have 4 Singles charts. That is, the main combined Download/Physical chart, the Download Only chart, the Physical Only chart, & the other one, where Singles were only noted on download if they had a physical available i.e. the Chart without downloads alone.

I've noted down the "Without Downloads Alone" #1s on the MRIB #1 list. So, what about those Physical Number Ones, then?

Here they are from April 2006 onwards:

2nd Apr 06 YOU KILLED ME - MORRISEY not a combined #1

9th Apr 06 CRAZY - GNARLS BARKLEY

Note: On the 30th April 2006 "The View From The Afternoon" the title track from an E.P. by the Arctic Monkeys should of topped the Physical chart, & indeed appeared in the ordinary chart at #4. Unfortunately, it was a 5 track E.P. & the powers that be, do not allow that many tracks for an E.P. to count as a single. So, it was disqualified from the chart...Rather stupid I thought, but then who am I?

Thanks for posting, Dave. Even though low sales, the Physical No.1 list looks so much better than the combined one. Some good No.1s on it.

So you could say Cliff did achieve his feat of getting a No.1 in the 2000s if you count Physicals.

Had the Bradford City Stadium fire not happened in 1985, Kayleigh by Marillion would have topped the official charts.
