Ke$ha managed to debut at #1 with *only* 280,000. Obviously We Are Young is a massive song, so you'd proabably need to sell a lot more than that to beat it.

It will be interesting to see how Justin does in streaming. You'd think he'd do well, since everybody will be wanting to hear the song asap.

Yeah but the chart rules have changed since then... Cf my older post....

Now under the new chart rules, Justin will not be able to reach number 1 unless he sells around 600 k

I have no idea where you got that logic from. If you need 600k to get to #1, then surely the likes of Katy Perry's Part of Me wouldn't of reached #1.

they changed the chart rules 2 WEEKS AGO... 'Part of me' entered at number 1 almost 5 weeks ago!!!!

I think you may be overestimating just how big an effect streaming has. It's like 5% of the formula.

not really... Drake's 'Take care' went from number 12 to number 7 after the addition of streaming, plus a lot of new entries & r-entries in the BB Hot 100... it's definitly not 5 %, at least 30 %....

Billboard posted an article about how much it was. I remember because Bré was mad about the power of sales being lowered instead of airplay
30% is an over estimate. 5% would be more accurate tbh,

Hey people new member here! *waves*.

So... is Bieber going to get a #1 then?

I like that picture and therefore I like you. Biebz probably is going #1, I don't even know how I feel about that at this stage. The song is better than We Are Young but for some reason I don't like the thought of Justin at #1. CONFLICTED.

Why thank you! Though I actually like WAY B-) And i like boyfriend but not Bieber, if that makes sense? Still, it's more deserving of a number 1 debut than "Part of me" was...

I don't know if this is new information but What Makes You Beautiful is going to be used on Glee. Should definitely be a top then.

Part of Me almost didn't debut at #1 either. It charted at #1 on the Bubbling Under chart from airplay alone, so if it got just slightly more airplay it would have charted on the actual Hot 100, therefore not debuted at #1. It debuted at #1 on two different charts on two consecutive weeks though, which is quite impressive.

Not sure how I feel about sales being reduced to include the streaming. I can kind of see the logic, in the sense that people pay to stream, so it's kinda like buying music (and the people that do streaming probably do it instead of doing traditional downloads).

On the other hand, I think I would like the airplay component to be decreased somehow. I never liked the idea of radio stations choosing what's in the charts, although thankfully they at least base it off audience impressions (so at least if a stations plays music that nobody likes, they'll stop listening to the station so it'd count less to the Hot 100).

The Glee promotion should really help One Direction I think.

I'm surprised Justin Bieber is still #1. I don't think I'd mind him debuting there. It'd most likely be just the one week, and fun. are probably going to get 2 months at #1 minimum anyway, so a week less isn't a big deal.

Sean Paul had a massive climb to #73 on iTunes thanks to the Pitbull remix, and 50 Cent at #74!!! :cheer:

I dont understand the point in streaming when you can access youtube for free? I don't understand this new system at all, seems a bit ridiculous actually.
I don't get streaming myself to be honest. Maybe it's better quality than on YouTube? I don't know.
