Posted March 18, 201213 yr http://counteract-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Lawson.jpg I've mentioned them a couple of times before but I couldn't see a proper topic for them so I thought I'd start it - Lawson are (L-R) Andy Brown, Ryan Fletcher, Adam Pitts and Joel Peat - they have been together for two years but I first heard about them when Universal Music's opinion panel 'The Speakerbox' asked me to listen to some demos of their songs last year and I was really impressed. They've just been signed to Polydor and a full scale assault is being planned for them on the charts with a first single in late spring/early summer then an album in the autumn. They've been on their own tour of small venues in the UK and have also supported Will Young and The Wanted (naturally, as Andy Brown from the band used to be in Avenue with Max George before this - he also dated Mollie King from The Saturdays for a brief while) and they're supporting Westlife on their farewell tour at Croke Park. Musically their material's quite guitar driven but it's very melodic too - there's a bit of an early Savage Garden meets The Script feel to their material with a bit of The Wanted's better moments thrown in for good measure. Their first single is called 'When She Was Mine' and it's a favourite in their live sets: tlBQ4WEcik4 They have a song called 'Red Sky' that's available for free download from their website too: JByQWOAf-Ng Edited December 3, 201212 yr by ThePensmith
April 2, 201213 yr No comments! I actually really like Lawson, really strong melodic pop songs, an edge of classic McFly with deeper vocals. And, if you like, The Script with a sense of fun.
April 3, 201213 yr I was quite impressed actually. I agree with RFL - they sound like a better version of McFly with that spark of excitement missing from The Script's music (though TS are brilliant).
July 16, 201213 yr NEW pop lads Lawson are gutted their recent writing sessions with Gary Barlow finished too late to make their debut album. But the tracks with the Take That king won’t be shelved as the band are considering a deluxe repackaged version of the disc, due out in autumn. I joined singer Andy Brown, 25, guitarist Joel Peat, 22, bassist Ryan Fletcher, 22, and drummer Adam Pitts, 21, for a cocktail on the Hard Rock Calling VIP bus after their bouncy Saturday set. Andy told me: “Take That are on the same label as us – Polydor – and we also work with the same producer, so Gary heard some of our stuff and really loved it. “We went in and wrote together and it was a dream come true. “He’s an amazing guy and a great writer so I couldn’t have asked for more. “It was such a fast two days. We had six hours to write a couple of songs but as the album is already finished we’ll have to do a deluxe version later to get them out.” A highlight of the Gazza session was a ballad called Living In My Shadow. Ryan said: “When I went in to record my bass part I was in tears.” Adam added: “The lyrics are unbelievable. It’s a beautiful song.” As well as 41-year-old Gary’s musical talents, his personality put Lawson at ease. Joel said: “It’s nice to meet someone who is your idol who doesn’t disappoint.” As the most mainstream act on the Hard Rock Calling bill, they pulled in a hefty crowd for their set. Ryan said: “Although we are a pop act we really do rock it out live and I think the HRC audience really appreciated http://www.dailystar.co.uk/playlist/view/2...er-Gary-Barlow/ it.”
July 17, 201213 yr Cool but I can't believe they're talking about a repackage before it's already been released :drama:
July 18, 201213 yr Possibly in time for the teenage girls and the Christmas market, all the other boybands will be doing the same thing as per i guess
July 18, 201213 yr Author They've just confirmed on Twitter in the last few days that the album will be out (along with a 3rd single) in October...don't see what would stop them from releasing a deluxe version with the regular version for those who want to hear the stuff they've done with the Captain. I'd buy it for one! In other news The Alias (they of Britney/The Saturdays/The Wanted remixing and Rachel Stevens/S Club co-writing fame) have just premiered their remix of 'Taking Over Me' on YouTube. Is predictably ace. In a good way. KNSnFjlyCmQ Edited July 18, 201213 yr by ThePensmith
July 19, 201213 yr  I definitely prefer this single to 'When She Was Mine'. They should learn from Alexandra Burke, though. Talking about plans to re-release an album (before it's even available originally) is daft to say the least. :P Too confident.
July 19, 201213 yr They might use this single that they have written with Gary as the lead single for a deluxe package. Would probably make sense from a music label point of view as it would entice TT and Gary fans to have a listen and potentially buy when they might not necessarily have bothered if Gary wasn't involved
July 20, 201213 yr Author They should learn from Alexandra Burke, though. Talking about plans to re-release an album (before it's even available originally) is daft to say the least. :P Too confident. What a load of cobblers...they're entirely different artists! And how is planning for the future cocky, pray tell?
July 20, 201213 yr My comment is from a marketing perspective, not what genre the artist is. Stating that you have intentions to re-release an album with more material, before even releasing the original version - it's not a clever idea. Potential buyers may be put off spending out on the original. They should wait and see whether the original version performs well, before making plans to release another version of it. I didn't state "planning for the future is cocky", so don't put words into my post. They may just be jumping ahead of themselves, at the stage they're currently at. They're only one charted hit into their career, don't forget that.
August 10, 201212 yr What a load of cobblers...they're entirely different artists! And how is planning for the future cocky, pray tell? Oh dear! Edited August 10, 201212 yr by LeeWallaceee
August 22, 201212 yr Author So today the lads revealed the release date and title of their debut album, and it is called... ...'Chapman Square'. Why you may be asking? Andy explained on Twitter: 'The name 'Chapman Square' is where I used to live. Where me and the lads first met, and where we recorded our first videos.' Kinda nice touch actually, a bit like McFly cos' they called their first album 'Room on the 3rd Floor' owing to Tom and Danny writing it all in a room on the 3rd floor of the hotel they stayed in when they'd just started working together. Anyway 'Chapman Square' is released on 22nd October and is gonna be available as a standard album, 2 disc album (I hope this means we'll be getting the Gary Barlow collaborations sooner rather than later) and a super deluxe box which will have the 2 CD album and some other amazing collectable tat a la The Saturdays/Cheryl's recent albums I shouldn't wonder. Amen to Universal for still giving a damn about how to give fans the full album experience! The video for their 3rd single is being shot this week and will be at radio very soon :) P.S. I nearly forgot...does anyone remember the boyband V from 2004? Aaron Buckingham (the one with the long blonde hair that used to write the frankly amazing 'Hot Potato' column on Popjustice) is their manager! Edited August 22, 201212 yr by ThePensmith
August 22, 201212 yr They did this very catching track at V. I can't really remember much about it... but it did feature lines about running?! LOL
August 22, 201212 yr Author They did this very catching track at V. I can't really remember much about it... but it did feature lines about running?! LOL You might possibly be referring to 'Standing in the Dark'? An amazing song, I'm almost positive that one will end up on the album - maybe have a look at their V Festival set here and refresh your memory? i2-6ixmRZaY
September 20, 201212 yr Author Here's the album artwork! http://pbs.twimg.com/media/A3QO1CCCUAEhJgw.jpg
September 20, 201212 yr Oh wow, I actually love that, like really love that! They weren't kidding when they said 'if you like the single artwork just wait for the album', I might have to get the physical version of both the single and album just for the artwork (I would of got the album physically anyway). And on a fickle note, they're the hottest 'boyband' out there imo, they're all quite stunning.
September 24, 201212 yr Author Here's the (rather endearingly) illustrated copy of the album tracklisting, revealed on Twitter just now: http://pbs.twimg.com/media/A3kKUsrCYAAGdvs.jpg Deluxe edition disc is a bit disappointing though...I was expecting something a bit more than four B-sides we've already had!
September 24, 201212 yr Surprised they've chucked on the two B Sides from 'When She Was Mine'. I was rather more partial to the ones on 'Taking Over Me'! I wonder what will be on their (rather expensive) Special Edition?
