June 7, 201213 yr Really really good. The special effects were out of this world. Whilst the storyline perhaps could have been clearer, I felt feeling satisfied with what I had seen. I see where a lot of the critics are coming from, but at the same time I think a lot of them were expecting a direct prequel to Alien which this was not, although it could be interepreted as it. Some great ideology behind everything and curosity certainly killed the cat was a great theme. Michael Fassbender was brilliant. His character was numb and void of any emotion, and while he was sinister he was also loveable. I certianly had no idea whether to love or hate him. Hope there's a sequel. As I certainly want to know the answer to the question that was posed at the end!
June 7, 201213 yr I saw it last week at the midnight show. It was good for what it was and the 3D use was decent. But I can't stop thinking that I'd have loved it more, if I was into the Sci-Fi genre more. I'm just generally not a big Sci-Fi fan and if I was rating it out of 10, I'd possibly give it a 6.8 or something. Michael Fassbender was easily the highlight of the film though. His acting was incredible. Really hope he is acknowledged or something for his role as David! Also, surprised this hasn't been posted, but I definitely think this promo is one of the best promos in a long time. cWmbqH_z7jM The whole human emotion thing, was superbly done.
June 7, 201213 yr I was sooooooooooooo looking forward to this but the reviews from people dont seem too good :(
June 7, 201213 yr I saw this today and I was very impressed actually - I've not actually seen any of the Alien's (criminal I know!), but I still found this relatively easy to follow and the ending was excellent. The only thing that I didn't really understand was how Charlie got infected, was it David putting something in his drink?

The only thing that I didn't really understand was how Charlie got infected, was it David putting something in his drink? Yeah I think he had some of that black stuff on his finger from the thing he brought back cos when he gave him the drink it implied that he'd dipped his finger into it while he was handing it over.
June 7, 201213 yr Yeah I think he had some of that black stuff on his finger from the thing he brought back cos when he gave him the drink it implied that he'd dipped his finger into it while he was handing it over. I think he was curious as to what it's effect was, I'm not sure whether he meant to kill him or what the effect was. Obviously David does not feel emotion so I don't think he was aware of the consequences of his actions. I think he did it because he could. When Charlie said to him that humans made robots because they could, it made David do what he did because he did. What I didn't understand was the alien at the end. My friends whose a bit of a horror film geek said it was a baby predator, but wtf in general. I'd guess if/when they make a sequel, the woman will find out that David was at fault for Charlie's death, cos he only implied it to her. I'd guess he will actually tell her in the next film.

No way was that a baby Predator. Didn't even look like one. Ridley Scott has also stated he hates the cross pollination of Alien & Predator movies. It was clearly a form of Giger's alien that wasn't the same as we know for several reasons. Firstly it was created via a small amount of the black fluid altering human DNA and being created inside a human. Yes the Engineers have almost identical DNA to us but they weren't using the same technique for creating their bio weapons. The mural on the wall suggests that the Engineers had all but perfected the Giger Alien or it was their target image. They knew what they were working towards. The pile of bodies with their chests exploded suggests they were all but there. Altered human DNA gets in the mix and creates a new strain of Alien.
June 10, 201213 yr Was anyone else disappointed? Visually stunning (which seems like an understatement) but everything else? Eh. Generic characters, sloppy direction, lazy writing, a plodding story, and no real sense of climax. It just sort of started... and then finished.
June 10, 201213 yr I did enjoy it, just not as much as i expected to i think. I liked the story a lot (and the alien references) but just thought the action scenes were going to be a bit more scary/exciting. Charlize's death for example was so anti climactic. just a bit like oh... so that happened. Definite case of the trailer being better than the film.

SHE DIDN'T NEED TO DIE :(
June 10, 201213 yr whooops spoilers the noises in the trailer! o man & Charlize could have easily started running to the side when the ship was falling towards her. SHE DIDN'T NEED TO DIE :( Ha i know, every time! I never understand. almost didn't help Noomi tho...

Generic characters, sloppy direction, lazy writing, a plodding story, and no real sense of climax. It just sort of started... and then finished. Definitely. There was no connection to any of the characters and the deaths seemed so obvious and familiar. Beautifully photographed (I'm not sure what the Planet Earth opening was but PRETTY) but it's obvious that's where all the thought went. the noises in the trailer! o man & Charlize could have easily started running to the side when the ship was falling towards her. SHE DIDN'T NEED TO DIE :( Yes she did. Rules state bitches must die
June 16, 201213 yr I saw this last night. I am a huge fan of the Alien series of movies (I even like Alien Resurrection - there's lots of humour in it :) ) Anyway, I am still not sure what to make of it. Some of it was great. I loved the globes that scanned the interior of the structure. I loved the opening part and the sequence seeing the creatures DNA being ripped apart and reorganised. The operation was good too. The whole movie was visually great - the way the creatures came out of the surfaces of those vases - it seemed like any surface on that planet could be harbouring something alive. The alien at the end didn't confuse me at all....isn't that the one from the first movie? The stellar projections in the center of the structure were very impressive. I loved some of the references to earlier movies - when David parts his fingers and the slime on them makes them looked like the jaws of an alien from Alien 3 I think....the basketball...the vases... I though that David was too much like Bishop in places and certainly the severed head bit was too weak to be repeated. Putting it in the bag was good though. I though it was good but no where near as amazing as the trailer suggested. I hadn't seen the trailed in a few months so the anticipation wasn't as high as if I had seen it recently. I just watched it there now and it was a lot scary than the movie. I can see how it is a disappointing film for two reasons...the trailer and the fact that it's Ridley Scott doing an Alien movie. also....Logan Marshall-Green....OMG..... Edited June 16, 201213 yr by tonyttt31
July 15, 201213 yr saw in IMAX, actually felt like i was on the planet, but agree that the script is flawed, needs to answer many questions that another 3 films may not even answer, but looks prmising for later films....way to similar to alien/aliens though even down to the lead actress and weaver
September 29, 201212 yr and would Charlize stop dying please, IT'S TOO MUCH :( YES PLEASE. I just watched Snow White and this immediately after. Visually the best thing I've seen this year by FAR. I don't even care about the flaws.
September 30, 201212 yr Okay, this is mostly Alien-related but I just finished the first 4 movies of the Alien franchise. It was amazing obviously but the last scene where the alien was sucked out into space via the hole in the window was SO heartbreaking. It was looking at Ripley silently saying 'WHY MUMMY WHY?! the entire time. So sad I almost cried :(
