I'm suprised there isn't a topic about this already but I know Bruno isn't the most Buzzjack-friendly artist. :P

The follow-up to last year's Doo-Wops & Hooligans is expected to be released later this year and he has already started working on it. If it is going to be self-produced (with The Smeezingtons), I'm expecting it to not take as long as albums by other artists. I really can't wait for this record. If there are songs similar to 'Runaway Baby', LSB and 'Talking to the Moon' on this next album, I'll certainly be a fan. I think he needs to release more up-tempos though. 'Just the Way You Are' was great but it got boring due to overplay, and so did 'Grenade' at a quicker rate. A song like a solo 'Billionaire' would be great as a lead single. Something reggae-esque.

As well as this new album, an EP titled Earth to Mars is expected to be released in June. I don't know how concrete this information is but what I do know is it's an EP compiling demos and songs that failed to make DW&H. I think it's an illegal release i.e. isn't actually released by Bruno or his label.

Anyway, let's hope for even more news soon. :D

Rather excited for new material! I quite enjoyed DW&H, hope he can deliver again!

I really liked Doo-Wops & Hooligans - he definitely gets far too much hate here! If it was Beyonce doing the exact same album Buzzjack would've loved it :P

Excited for the new one, I hope it's more Grenade/Talking To The Moon than Lazy Song (hate that now) though.

I hope it's a sophomore slump, you couldn't escape him last year with his mediocre catered to Heart FM songs.

Totally agree. It's ridiculous. 'Best Thing I Never Had' could have easily fitted onto the DW&H tracklist.

I just hope Bruno sticks with his retro sound. He's one of the few artists I would actually get annoyed at if they resorted to electro-pop - the other being Beyonce.

Credit where credit's due, despite its overplay 'Grenade' is a well-written song and I liked 'It Will Rain' and 'Count On Me'.

He deserves to be slapped for 'The Lazy Song' however. :arrr:

I really liked what I heard of the album, until his singles got completely overplayed to the point I can barely listen to them any more :( (It Will Rain aside, that deserved to do much better)

I'm interested to hear what he can do next, I do agree that I hope he focuses less on the ballads as that will pretty much be a rerun of last time

I'm pleased to see some people who actually admit to LIKING a bit of Bruno Mars because I thought I was the only one (despite his huge sales.) His album isn't too shabby and all of his singles are pretty good imo, if a bit overly-sentimental. The Lazy Song is of course a low-point but you gotta give a brutha a break from time to time,
It Will Rain is pretty great and Marry You is listenable but every other single of his is horrible.

Any more news on the album?

Surely another one is due next Spring at the very latest?

It's been called 'genius pop', he's worked with Diplo and apparently the single will be out in October - I think that's just about the best info we have. Sounds interesting though, Diplo and Bruno? :o

'Genius Pop'? Where's the source?

I really don't like that name. Plus it's similar to GaGa's 'ArtPop'. Diplo and Bruno sounds like a brilliant combo though!

EDIT: Have I just been a complete idiot and misinterpreted what you said?

Bruno and Diplo I'm guessing will sound like "Climax", I can't imagine him going dance. And if it sounds like "Climax" I will be rather pleased.
Acts like Bruno who open with huge selling debuts i find have so much pressure with the follow up as they never seem to manage the same success, if Bruno can return with a strong lead single that sells well he could break this trend. Additionally, doowops is still selling and runaway baby keeps popping in and out of the charts so its almost like he never went away.

Yeah, you have :P He means the genre is "genius pop", not the album title.

Hopefully this album contains less cringeworthy songs such as "Grenade" and "Just the Way You Are", despite the latter actually being quite a good song. I don't want to hear anything like "The Lazy Song" ever again though.

It's not a genre, someone (I think it was Diplo in an interview but I'm not 100% sure) said in an interview that it was 'genius pop' so I'd assume they're just saying it's very good :P

Who would've thought the term "genius pop" was such a difficult concept to get our heads around?

Album title is 'Unorthodox Jukebox', released 11th December.

Song titles are;

'Locked Out of Heaven' (premiering on Monday)

'Young Girls'

'Gorilla'

'When I Was Your Man'

'Natalie'

'Treasure'

'Moonshine'

'Money Makes Her Smile'

'Show Me'

'If I Knew'

Production is from Mark Ronson, Jeff Bhasker, Emile Haynie, Diplo, Supa Dups and (of course) the Smeezingtons.

Playing it very risky that close to Christmas, needs a big lead single or he could be in for a Duffy-esque flop.
